I think you misunderstood the society quote.

The point of that quote is that "society" is made up of individual people and their families, so by expecting "society" to "do something", you're actually taking money away from those people. There's no magical society bank account.
Yes there is - I just Googled it :)

I'll buy anyone who invents a time machine and brings mid-2000s Pavlich to 2015 a beer.

Can we use that same time machine to draft teenage Graham Polak and Ryan Murphy again? Polak was runner up in the rising star and Murphy kicked 60-odd WAFL goals as a teenager, I think they'd flourish under Ross Lyon after floundering under the previous Admin.

My mate rates him extremely highly, and reckons he will be a gun. He doesn't want to go anywhere, so why trade him?

The obvious answer would be because we need a key forward more than we need a mid.

That's the whole reason trading exists.

I don't rate him but I would like him to come out of the blocks and impress me next year. I just don't think he's really that damaging as an outside and not to mention his attack between the sticks wasn't good at all in the seconds.

If he wants to stay then that changes my want to see him in our B22, although that's not really set in stone fact. I have other youngsters like Langdon and Grey in the side before him, although have him before Blakely.

I just don't understand why Suban <-> McCarthy can't get it done :(

Suban's career goals = 52. McCarthy's = 36
Suban's avg tackles/game = 3.5. McCarthy's = 1.2
Suban's avg handballs/game = 4.3. McCarthy's = 2.4

Therefore Suban > McCarthy. GWS should be throwing in the steak knives here.

Because St Kilda supporters are projecting it, the media has run with it - and gullible Freo supporters are convinced that since they've heard it everywhere, it must be true - so they want to trade him now while he has currency than lose him for nothing when he leaves (despite the lack of evidence to support him wanting to go).

... in a nutshell

Weller's not allowed to leave because then I'd have to change my Facebook profile pic. I can't allow that

And that is why it shits me when his name is automatically thrown up as trade bait, poor kid is halfway through a contract and as far as i know has not expressed a desire to be traded.

People forget how good Polak looked early on, heck he should just only be retiring about now.

Blah blah magic pudding blah. I wasn't referring to Thatcher per se, nor is a society made up of purely economic interactions. Both Thatcher and Reagan in particular brought in policies to make our society function more as singular economic units. Thatcher attacked all forms of solidarity from workers unions to Acid freaks raving in abandoned warehouses to football fans singing on terraces. Anyways it's a discussion for another board. Tag me in a thread if you want.

Correct but Weller would be any easy option since he would obviously agree to be traded to his brothers club at the Saints. Saints are apparently getting Pick 14 out of the Carslie deal. We swap that for Weller and a later pick. 14 + Next year's 1st gets put on the table for GWS, we fold and add 22 if we get desperate.

So what is our offer for McCarthy? If 22 + next years pick isn't enough we'll have to part with a player with currency.

If we get McCarthy to compliment Bennell without letting go of someone I like ie. Barlow beers are on me.
Just quoting because free beers are serious business

Stupid giants now saying they'll put in place measures to make sure Cam sees his family more next year. I'm sorry but 6 months after the fact was brought to their notice is way too little too late.

AFL should hire me to look after their players. I would've sat their coach down and gave him a good talking to about duty of care.

Exactly. We need Barlow for next year to compete for a flag. Weller isn't required for this due to Bennell arriving at the club. Time to pay overs for a Key forward and have one last crack before a mini rebuild. Selling the future for 1 year out of 8 isn't exactly torching the club. The players we are bringing in are also 20 + 22, not exactly old timers and the comp will be wide open next year as surely the Hawks will run out of juice.

Sounds good. We should just be happy over Bennell considering we go not even mediocre during these times, although we're greedy and just want more and more now after tasting that trade success.

Even better, we need smokingjacket to bring Dion Woods back NOW.

Last time GWS mentioned a potential player it was Barlow, and trade negotiations fell over. Not sure if things will be any different this time.
