Laverde was drafted with long term plans to be a midfielder and that's probably where he'll play his best football. Similar learning curve to Jobe Watson.

langford, on the otherhand, is someone who'll probably play their best football as a forward.
Thats fine i see him as a forward though similar to francis but will our rubbish performance today it was a shame he couldn't stady forward

I'm probably regret this when im sober, but what do you think about cloke? Pick him up for **** all, as nobody else will take him, i mean like 200k a year, either cloke and daniher get the best defenders and hooker kicks a bag, or daniher and hooker take the best 2 defenders and cloke kicks goals. Give him a year or 2, by the end daniher will be top of his game.

So you'd just drat 2 KPP because we have a lack of depht I remember carlton doing that one year will mat watson etc..... killed it.

Don't get me wrong we still need a key forward but everyone seems hellbent on selling the farm to get one. Next year a forward line with daniher francis or brown and Laverde will function nicely.

FYI if hurley stays we have 7 KPP on our list excluding rucks mmmm doesn't really seem to bad. But on our main list we have only 2 rucks both which our injury prone probably need another ruck on the main list first. Hey lets call it even and get a ruck forward!
Again of the taller blokes you've listed Daniher is the only true key forward on that list Brown is a more natural CHB (who I see spending his time in the VFL next year) and Francis it's too early to tell where he'll settle (more likely in defence for mine), again Laverde isn't a 3rd tall in the slightest. Also you realise you're suggesting we basically use the same forwardline that we've used this year.....I hate being harsh and shooting down people on this, but newsflash it isn't functioning! Daniher is doing well as the only true forward target we've got true, and Laverde/Langford are doing well as tall flankers/mids but other than those guys and Fantasia our forwardline is a complete shambles. If hypothetically we did draft Battle and Kerr and say Eddy as a stop-gap. It'd be ideal. We could then play the following forwardline while Kerr develops in the VFL.
Langford - Daniher - Laverde
Fantasia - Bellchambers (or Eddy) - Battle

He's done well as a forward true, but I'd argue he's played better as a midfielder.

True, although this year it's difficult for anybody to play as a forward. Langford has a really nice height and atheticism that would be very dangerous on the lead, with work on his kicking he would be an excellent medium sized forward for us and a difficult match up for most teams. Laverde doesn't quite have that height or speed, but his pressure belongs round the stoppages, hence my reasoning.

Newsflash it doesn't function because our ball movement is terrible. So what u have said is 4 out of the 6 forwards stay the same and you add belly mmmmm. Maybe this new forward needs time to gel.

And saying larvade isn't a 3rd tall shows your lack of knowledge seems to be a tall target we our using quite a bit mmmmm.

But if we follow your previous master plans we'd go after Patton because his numbers have been better than browns this year ooo wait they haven't been, but unlike brown he isn't playing in one of the worst teams in history.

If you can't see the midfield is the issue then your a idiot we need some major fresh blood in there and with langford and Laverde looking much better up forward hey heres a crazy idea lets draft some pure mids.

Parish
Heppell
Z.Merret
Brodie/Mclugage
Myers
Colyer

That's a pretty good outfit.
I've bought it up previously but we need another 2 a graders plus 2 quality mids. ATM we have heppell and zac and parish should get there but isn't there atm and coyler might also be able to get close.

Just say collingwood for example pendles sidey treloar and adams. Great 4 too build from but its also your next four that also set the standard which the pies don't have.

We need heppell zac parish and say Brodie / McLuggage to become a graders. With a back up of myers and coyler it still isn't cutting the mustard we need another 2 quality mids to give our selves a shot.

?

He has been reasonable up forward, but very average in the midfield.
Personally I think he's been as good in the midfield (from limited chances) as he has up forward. Was doing exceptionally well in the VFL in the midfield after being dropped, just needs to spend more time there to get comfortable at AFL level.

I can see why you'd think that though.

Myers is good too.

Not for a second am I suggesting using a top pick on a KPP just for the sake of it. What I am suggesting is that we do try and improve the list balance of talls because as it stands we have a significant shortage.

Hawthorn have 9 genuine KPP's (Brand, Fitzpatrick, Frawley, Gibson, Gunston, Heatherley, O'Brien, Roughead, Schoenmakers, Spangher)
Geelong have 11 genuine KPP's (Buzza, Clark, Delaney, Gardner, Hawkins, Henderson, Kersten, Kolodjasnji, Lonergan, Taylor, Vardy)
Hell, even Adelaide have 9 genuine KPP's (Dear, Hartigan, Jenkins, Keath, Lever, Lowden, McGovern, Talia, Walker)

We have 7 genuine KPP's (Ambrose, Brown, Daniher, Gwilt, Hartley, Hurley, Hooker) and a significant imbalance in fwds (x2) to defenders in that list (x5).
[disclaimer: some may suggest Hooker, Bellchambers, Hurley, even Aaron Francis have the capabilities to play key forward. They may be handy enough but im talking about a genuine 60+ goal a year KPF]

Not for second do we go and move heaven and earth to erect this, nor do we go out on a limb and use high draft picks but moving forward we do need to fix it. Be it via Free Agency (hell, go after a kid like Harry Dear if we need to) or be selective at the trade table (James Stewart won't cost the world imho), or even draft one of the 3 - 4 handy key forwards in the state leagues whilst a kid like Pat Kerr develops in the reserves. Hell, go after a Karl Brown (some suggest is the 4th best KPF in this draft) who would be a rookie chance at most. Would give us a year to look at him and see what he had. Luke Strnaica another.

People saying we need to draft particular players need to take a step back and take a closer look at our list.

Even with the 12 back we are missing good players at every position.

We take best available with our top picks. Midfielders, Rucks, Key Position, whatever they are we take them.

meh, the game is about getting the ball and using it wisely with smart decsion making ie. when to create the extra handball or when to kick at goal

Good midielders get the ball and execute, good key position players still need the midfielders to get the ball to them

People are suggesting the Doggies might make a big play for him during trade week, especially if they don't get Hurley.

Exactly. Defense is the only area we aren't lacking, and with the time it takes to develop draftees we are many years from being a genuine flag chance. I think any list management speculation needs to be based on what our U25-26 best 22 looks like and where the holes in that are. We need a couple more forwards, but more significant I think is the fact that all our big bodied inside midfielders are getting on in years.

Our under 25 Best 22 IMO (discluding Brown, Kommer, Smack, Dea, Michael, Grimley):

FB: Ambrose - Hartley - Ashby
HB: Gleeson - Francis - McKenna
MF: J Merrett - Z Merrett - Colyer
HF: Laverde - Langford - Redman
FF: Fantasia - Daniher - Walla
OB: Nyuon - Heppell - Parish
IC: Long - Wallis - Edwards - Hams

For me it's pretty clear we draft a KPF, a ruck, a KPD and a couple of big bodied inside mids

According to Brett Anderson, Ben Ainsworth is likely to play for Casey this weekend as the 23rd man. Interested to see how he goes against the bigger bodies

When it's broken down like that I think that sort of a 'rebuild' is very doable over the next couple of years. Even if Brodie doesn't show enough to justify being the #1 pick (assuming we don't trade it) we should be able to grab a KPF and at least one of the inside mids in the 2nd round (assuming Hibberd leaves).

Third round onwards don't really matter in my opinion. History tells us those guys rarely make it. Seems like a good chance to get a mature KPF as a stopgap until the players we draft over the next couple of years are ready to take on the role. Otherwise probably just draft according to whoever have the best chance of making it.

Presumably Hams and Walla are off the rookie list which gives us room to take a couple of speculative picks, I'm in favour of getting a couple of ruckmen, mainly because there is no guarantee they'll come good plus we have no idea if Nyuon will be still on the list.
