I believe they decided against changing the rules this season. All the bundling of picks trading has gone out the window. The AFL have implemented a new rule, you can only enter the draft with as many picks as you have places on your list.
So last year GWS entered the draft with 12 picks. This year they'll need 12 free places on their main list to pull that move.
I think the focus for clubs with father/son and academies will now become future picks.

Let's look at this as another opportunity.http://m.afl.com.au/news/2016-08-22/draft-loophole-to-remain-despite-some-clubs-concern
Though the title is deceiving, if you read it all, there has been a change. "Effective immediately".
Yeah he's been pretty terrible most of this season - not dissimilar to our own Sutty and Ibbo. He was pretty good last year and the year before that he was ok as well. You'd only grab him if he costed close to nothing and you were confident he could re-find his form (and consistency). He clearly wants and needs a reset on his career. For those still entertaining Marley Williams, have a gander at the replay of Hawks Pies. Single handedly lost em the game. The spuddiest of spuds.
St Kilda being interested makes sense he played his best game against them in the brief window when he was fit and St Kilda lost Stanley last year.Saints apparently interested in Clarke. Straight swap for weller ?. Hills and wellers![]()

Would you trade our next year's 1st rounder for 2 of GC's 2nd rounders this year. Maybe get us Rotham and Battle.

GC get reamed by that deal. The difference in points value between GC's two lowest 2nd rounders (I.E. 24 and 27) is just 263 points less that pick 6. It is highly likely that our 2017 pick will be worth no more than 1500 points and probably less. So effectively what you are saying they trade Priestia for a pick worth somewhere between 40 to 60.Perhaps a three way as mentioned above:
GCS lose Prestia and two 2nd round picks, gain Freo 1st 2017 & Barlow
Rich lose pick #6, gain Prestia & two second round picks
Freo lose Barlow & 2017 1st, gain pick #6
Do you think we will finish 10th next season?GC get reamed by that deal. The difference in points value between GC's two lowest 2nd rounders (I.E. 24 and 27) is just 263 points less that pick 6. How about they just insist on pick 6 for Prestia, keep their round second picks for players, or to pay for academy players, and get Barlow with a 3rd or 4th round pick (or, lets face it, as a DFA. Its a real possibility) if they want him.

Maybe so, but giving him to them for nothing is a bit far. Also it gives us a pick swap for one very likely to higher than next years at the additional cost of only a player we are not prepared to openly commit to retaining. It's close to magic bean stuff.Do you think we will finish 10th next season?
I'm not convinced Prestia is worth pick #6, that was where I was trying to send some value back to Richmond.![]()
Clarke is a free agent ( no club has to trade for him ) who signed a one year deal at end last season and in hindsight that looks foolish, he should've got two or the punt. If Clarke goes Hannath must stay or depth in rucks is woefull and can't be filled by a 18 year old draft pick. At times I'm not certain we looked far enough in advance when doing our selections.
Whilst most of us would agree Hannath is not AFL standard, its just making things up so say he gets beaten most weeks in the WAFL. When he has lead or split the ruck, rather than spending more time forward, he has mostly beaten the oppositions. Only time he didn't I can recall recently was against East Perth a few weeks ago when he and Griffin were shaded by Giles (AFL listed) and Johnson (ex AFL listed and multiple state representative ruck). There are plenty of 18 year olds who could do as well as Hannath, who gets beaten in the WAFL most weeks.
I'm pretty sure we only gave Clarke a 1 year deal because of injury concerns. If he's injury free after this season I am sure we will try pretty hard to convince him to stay, but it seems unlikely given he'll still be behind Sandilands for another season or 2.
As much people complain about hannath, he is scoring goal and about the same hitout as clark last week vs claremont. I agree with paracleet if clarke decided to go keep hannath as a cover for griff ( too injures prone). Still worth drafting 2 ruck . One goddard the other mobile ruck . 2018 is a decision year to either cut sandi( retirement ) / griff.
Agree , hannath need to improve his tackling , Sinclair and apeness got good tackling technic. Keep him if clarke go , delisted hannath if clarke stay.I haven't been a fan of Jack, particularly the pace and turning circle issues. I thought his game against Subiaco was the best I've seen from him (13D, 4M and 47HOs). The connection between he and De Boer for 3 quarters of that game was outstanding. He also provided an option in transition from the D50 and helped to link up play. On that basis, I think he's useful depth. We need 4 rucks on our list and if Clarke goes, it still leaves room for a Witt type or a young project ruckman. There are some AFL ruckmen in their late 20s or early 30s who were pretty ordinary at 24 years of age. Sinclair played 4 games in 2014, the year he turned 25 and averaged 10 disposals and 8.8 hitouts to go with 0.5 goals per game. Not saying he's a great player but Sydney traded Jetta for him and he's definitely worth a spot on our list or Sydney's. Maybe Hannath can get to that level over the next couple of years.
