Bumped Hawthorn - the beginning of the end? Will they make the fnals in 2017?

I am worried about the future of Hawthorn. People need to be aware of the brevity of this situation.

I would like to see the AFL step in and prevent them falling down the ladder. There are some options open to the AFL.

1) Give them back completely their ownership of Tasmania. A $35 million gift is not enough. Get North out of Tasmania.

2) Set up a drafting/trading system where they will only have to pay pick 35 and a fringe player to get Jaeger O'Meara and where they can pick players from other clubs as they see fit as they are a "destination club."

3) The AFL could pay for the Hawks setting up their new training base at Dingley. I would like to see the AFL pay for it all. Maybe the AFL could pay for their training drones as well.

4) Increase their dividend from the AFL handouts. "Equalisation" is not working well enough for the Hawks.

5) Get rid of Port Adelaide and Adelaide and make South Australia the state that Hawthorn plays their away games (only if they are not getting enough money from Tasmania should this option be utilised...last resort).

Whatever happens, we can't have Hawthorn's membership dropping below 70,000 people and we can't have them going lower on the ladder than 4th. Time for the AFL to step in and provide some much needed assistance.

lo

loving this game.

Smith bashing the ball into his chest earlier this year to save the game and now the dogs are getting their revenge.

Umpires and Hawks old brigade are Gawn....Gawmthorn

Love it!
He he. keep posting. Hawks fan aren't that sad overall. it is likely the end of an era but its nice to actually have an era... or two...

How's it feel having an era-less team?:(:(:(

It used to be just my Tigers that would relentlessly beat up the Hawks but now I see other teams joining the party!

Next year I expect them to be pantsed by the perennial bottom dwellers like Carlton and the Dees! Great for footy!

Mate your third last finals win had KB starring!

Think a lot of you are going to be very disappointed if you think this is the end of the Hawks. Without a decent big bodied forward all season we still managed to get within one straight kick of a home preliminary final.

O'Meara and possibly T.Mitchell and Vickery to be added to the side. A full preseason for Burton and hopefully a mid year return for Roughead will see the Hawks unlikely to drop very far.
It's possible, but it's also possible that O'Meara is (sadly) crooked and won't give you anything. It's also likely Vickery will give you nothing. Roughie coming back would be nice. I think they'll finish seventh or eighth next year, then with Hodge, Mitchell, Burgoyne etc gone, it could be a few years outside the eight. I imagine you wouldn't change anything though.

Still enough quality across the list to not need a major rebuild, but it depends how high GWS trajectory goes

The absolute beauty of this situation?

The Hawks don't believe they need to rebuild.

Which guarantees they are done for quite a while.

Perhaps. But Hawthorn gets these things right more often than not so I'm prepared to back that most of these things will come off well for us.

If we're not winning flags then we'll at least be building towards one.

Clarkson and co. have said at many private functions and talks that 2016 was the start of a mini-rebuild. We wouldn't debut 8 players this year if we didn't think that.

Pretty much sums up this thead :drunk:

Makes sense though. First time in years that Hawthorn have looked weak and vulnerable.

People have been waiting to vent their frustrations at a team that has hogged the limelight for too long ;)

Honestly, as a supporter, it has been a great ride. Whist there may be a slim hope we are back here again in September, it's more likely that we take our wins and begin the long rebuild.

Still, when I consider the ebs during the 90s, and early 00s, this has been one hell of a ride. Never would have thought we would get three in a row after 2012. All comments saying it was a weak league, Hawks breezed through, etc is just one big barter to justify their own clubs failures in the same time period. We all were teams in 2004, we all had the same chances, there were the same opportunities.

We just we the club to take them. We were lucky to have a visionary coach who could see the game evolving in front of him and repeatedly adapt his side to the changing game, on and off the pitch.

Anyway, vent it all out. I remember doing a similar thing when the Lions fell away during '04. Feels good to finally see a juggernaut fall.

But don't belittle the past triumphs and the real veterans of those wins. Any club would have killed for Hodge, Mitchell, Burgers, Birch, Rioli etc in their prime. Whilst they may not have won the most possessions or got the most golden stars, the ability that made them great, is they stood up in big moments. Everytime. Norf sure could have used some of those players. West Coast are currently crying out for their players to stand up like these boys do.

Will be an interesting ride to see where we go next. But we made the most of our time in the sunlight and that's all you can ask for in this league. It's bloody hard to win one, let alone 3 in 3 years and 4 in 8 or so.

Good luck to the four remaining by the end of today. Would love the Doggies to win the whole thing, would just be such a great story.

Peace out! xo

This.

I'm honestly scared about how dominant GWS may become. They're so young and look scarily strong.

The AFL have created a beast in the GWS, and they still have top draft pick bait/academy picks to keep topping their list up.

Time will tell.

Yeah. I guess focusing on the demise of a foe is soothing when you realize the mess your own clubs in.

Our club is doing just swimmingly.

Stacked full of young talent and about to add the best kid in the land.

Kidding right? Hawthorn have always looked vulnerable.

Have never had the intimidating aura that Geelong did.

Cool. Because people will remember an "intimidating aura" over Premierships. We won 4, they won 3.

Plus has life really gotten that bad, that you have to support Geelong being a Bombers fan?!:drunk:

Finally, to give a closer-to-home example, you boys nearly had the unbeatable team in 2000. Yet you lads only won one and no one even remembers that in light of recent events.

Jog on mate. You only give further credence to my post ;)

And we've won sixteen.

Hawthorn are woefully overrated in the 'best teams' debate.

Geelong, Brisbane, that Essendon side, even Collingwoods 2010-11 side we're all better - and that's just the last twenty years.

You benefitted dramatically from the entry of GC and GWS, and I applaud you for that - but you aren't remotely as good as you think you are.

To bad you've chosen to time your run to coincide with the rise of the all conquering Giants. Playing for second for the next few light years. Just like the rest of the comp......and second just doesn't cut it.

Ah well, guess we'll just see how we go hey?

No one remembers round 1 in September, I know Geelong has mastered the art of winning during the H&A but well concern ourselves with premierships... You know those games that the HFC like to play against our poorer cousins?
How's that working out for you?
