My apologies I missed mcluggage and Kelly from our line up, incidentally do you mind sharing the link to when we acquired there services?

Heppell, Myers, Watson, Stanton Hocking, Colyer and co as good as they have been have question marks after a year out and only colyer has leg speed. Watson, Stants and Goddard closer to the end.

Anyway it's a midfielders game these days as the grand final proved you only need a couple of talls to provide a target but all in large get the ball, kick, provide a contest, follow up and repeat. Do we come close to the Dogs, GWS And co?
We matched the Dogs in the midfield I thought when we played them late in the season..... And GWS earlier in the year. Perhaps they were not up for that game.

My view is that Hawthorn was in denial re contested ball. Finals showed them that there was no point holding on because the game had gone past their team.

The mistake was re-signing Mitchell and Lewis when they did. It's a double edged sword, though, as they were still every chance of winning the flag.
I actually reckon they just tried to do what they could, knowing the inside players they have aren't up to the job anymore. Pursuing O'Meara and Mitchell all year would suggest they knew they had to fix their contested ball problem a while ago.

according to Gerard Healy/Dermott he is played out of position due to depth of talent, I'd say that would contribute to inconsistency issues but hey look at Tom Scully this year, I'd happily have Kelly at Essendon, Kelly and pick 2 :)

Fair enough. Except it would be a straight swap for Kelly, no pick 2.

I do wonder if it's worth our while to insert ourselves into the Jaeger deal somehow, as opposed to straight dealings with GC.

Ess gets 4, 10, 16
Hawks get O'Meara, 41
Suns get 1, Hanley
Lions get Hartung, Whitecross, Melbourne's 2017 2nd rounder
Seriously weighted in our favour, and I don't see much difference in value of pick 10 and 16 compared with picks in the late 20's/early 30's tbh.

ESS IN: 4, 6
ESS OUT: 1, 41, Hibberd, 2017 2nd

BRIS IN: Hartung, Whitecross, Melbourne's 2017 2nd
BRIS OUT: 16, Hanley

GC IN: 1, 10, 15, 16, Hanley, Essendon 2017 2nd
GC OUT: 4, 6, Jaeger, Prestia, 22, 30

HAW IN: Jaeger, 41
HAW OUT: 10, Hartung, Whitecross

MELB IN: Hibberd
MELB OUT: 2017 2nd

RICH IN: Prestia, 22
RICH OUT: 6, 27

GWS IN: 27, 30 (1332)
GWS OUT: 15 (1112)

We get the two top 10's we seem to desire
Brisbane get player who actually want to play for them and have the Fagan link
Gold Coast get a pick before the Bowes bid and gain an experienced player for one that has been injured for the past 2 years
Hawks get their man (again)
Melbourne get Pig and maintain their presence in the 2nd round of this years draft
Richmond get their man (surprisingly)
GWS get more points

Edit: Added Richmond to my completely realistic hypothetical, adjusted a few picks.

Hard to pick.
If gcs held 1, GWS 2, lions 3 and dons 4, I think the following scenarios are possible

Gcs grab McGrath, GWS mccluggage, lions
SPS
Or same with lions taking Ainsworth
Gcs grab brodie, GWS McGrath, lions mccluggage
Unlikely scenario
Gcs take Brodie, GWS McGrath, lions SPS or Ainsworth, leaving mccluggage to 4
no chance of gws taking mcclucggage when they have shiel, smith and green who are very talented goalkicking mids

Knightmare on James Stewart:

#62 Adelaide – James Stewart (VIC – KPF/KPD)
Height: 197cm, Weight: 82kg, DOB: 04/03/1994
Recruited from: Sandringham Dragons
Style: Jack Watts
Player comparison: Corey Gault
Range: 35-rookie
Profile: Potential Collingwood Father Son selection who Collingwood elected not to take. Stewart is a long term prospect who still physically has a long way to go. Has played most of his footy either as a key forward or on a wing to this stage but also looks very capable as a key defender and to be honest this is where I see him making a position his at AFL level. Stewart as a key forward often looks lost not knowing where to run, often standing around and just doesn’t influence games enough mostly playing as a tallish flanker, certainly doesn’t scream “focal point key forward” at this early stage and if he is to make it as a key forward it would be on the basis of superior work rate and his work at ground level. Down back on the other hand Stewart looks a lot more natural with his ability to read the ball down back, mark strongly and kick accurately to a target down the field. Intuitively he seems to know when he can leave his opponent and looks a class above down back which is interesting for someone who has played mostly as a key forward/wing as a junior. Skill level is excellent for a key position player and by foot is particularly good – duel sided, can find targets over a range of distances and his long kicking in particular is excellent, but at times the consistency has been lacking by foot despite his good kicking action. Stewart is very clean for a tall lad below the knees and can easily pick the ball up cleanly without any difficulty. When he has ball is hand shows great poise and can easily spin out of tackles, never really looking phased when pressured. Athleticism impressive and for someone at his height and is incredibly mobile for a tall. Willing tackler and will give those 2nd and 3rd efforts. What impresses me is his ability to read the play and read the ball in the air, it’s a real feature of his game. Strong mark overhead but I don’t see him ever developing into a dominant contested marking presence which makes me favour him as a defender even with the knowledge that the Collingwood key defence group is far superior to that of the key forward group.

Caleb Daniel? The same was that did 2/10 of jack shit in the prelim and grand finals?

Rudy, you're too small to go to the Superbowl.

Thought Daniel was pretty good in the prelim.

Even so, two bad games don't define a player. Surely his excellent season leading up to them has more weight.

Not really. Reckon that he got found out badly in the intensity of the biggest games. Not that it will matter to anyone but I'll never rate him until he does it under that heat.

Seems a bit harsh to entirely judge a player early in his career who has shown that much with only a handful of finals games on how he plays in games with that sort of intensity.

Apparently he was taller then than he is now haha. Gotta love the way teams mess with the height stats in particular.

I find that a little difficult to read, but basically good skills for a KPP but with talents better suited to defence? But then he also says that to make it as a key forward he'd need to improve his work rate and ability at ground level.

I mean it was four years ago, anyone know if that's changed? Or are we looking at yet another defender to be played out of position?

Annddd he shares a birthday (to the day) with Daniher. What's not to love?

If we hand gcs pick 1, my tip is they brodie or McGrath. Probably the two stand out professionals and least likely to seek a move home in 2-3 years.

It's more a response to "we should get a Caleb Daniel".

I'd rather get someone who can do what Caleb Daniel does but isn't brushed aside like a small child.
