I think it's important to note the hypocrisy in both sides, and am not one to patronise the pro-choice argument. There are holes and fallacies everywhere. Not to mention fanaticism, the pro-lifers are not alone there.

It's just not withdrawing funding on abortions, it's withdrawing funding for contraceptive care, that drives up unplanned/unwanted pregnancies, that then lead to people facing hard decisions and wanting abortions.

I could almost understand the GOP position on abortions, if it funded extensive contraceptive access and family planning, but the fact they do the opposite shows it's just a political football that women have to suffer for.

Cutting the poorest people off Medical support creates many such issues like this.
Some women are shunned from family when pregnant. Religious opposition to abortion & contraception also puts huge pressures on Women. Remember too that sex education in the US is a much vexed issue. Thankfully we dont have the same problem with the far right conservative idiots & Religious nutters that they do.

There's a reason why humanity is above wildlife and survival of the fittest. It's about taking care of the weakest because they cannot. Some of the greatest minds in history have had significant physical disabilities and would not be able to function without assistance from external parties including the state.

For me 'the state' or society should provide universal health care. (Medicare aint perfect, but its better than most systems around the world.)
That must be combined with a high quality education system. They go together. Educated people are better aware of health issues & health options. Also have better health outcomes as a result. A community with good health access has lower issues with costly chronic disease, much of which is lifestyle related. That also relates to communicable diseases.

The Right always focuses on 'handouts'. Thats a different issue & their are ways to address that, especially through education & addressing the intergenerational links & poverty traps often inherent in the lower socio-economic social groups. But rather than do anything, they'd rather blame the victim than look for real solutions through action. Spend more on police & prisons rather than look for long term solutions.
I guess it makes them feel better when they hate others & would rather punish ignorance than fix it through education etc.

Sure that wont fix everything in one go, but it would be a good start, & better than going in our current circles.
