I suspect it depends on what the player wants to do. They signed Eddie for 3 more years, with the contract being announced in January this year. There are other examples.

It makes some sense that he signed a 3 year deal. He had a year to run on his contract with GWS when he was traded. Either way I don't think we have to worry about him being a flight risk ..

Not sure if Zero Hanger are completely accurate though. Harry Dear, for example, is contracted to the end of 2018 (http://www.afc.com.au/player-profile/harry-dear), not this year (as they have it).

Yep - they don't seem 100% on lesser known players. TBF I only said reasonably accurate though. Footy wire has Harry Dear to 2018. Perhaps there info is better?
