But he is good back up if Billy gets injured. If he goes and Billy gets injured who rucks ? Marshall 1 game , Pierce 1game or Holmes a couple games , any way we are screwed.

Is he a good backup? In the games he played this year he looked terrible. Might have just been a bad year but I feel like if there's some currency for him we should make a move now.

If the club believes Longer is clear cut number 1 i'd be fine in not having a starting quality backup if it meant we could get a better player for out starting 22.

Look at Richmond they have nothing behind Nankervis in terms of quality, likewise Melbourne behind Gawn etc etc

As a team are we better off having a top level back up ruckmen (if Hickey is indeed this) that rarely plays or say a better wingman or HBF or whatever we are able to get if we moved Hickey.

Pick 3 and a later first would be delicious for 7, 8 and any required change. :)

I would do Pick 7, 8 & 2018 2nd (ideally keep 2nd) for Carlton Pick 3 and Carlton 2018 first round Pick.

7 + 8 + 24 (assuming 1 better place finish) - 3980 points*
3 + 6 (assuming 3 spot improvment) - 3985 points*

*points aren't everything but just a guide.

Grab one of LDU, Dow or Rayner and take a likely top 5 pick into next years strong draft. Carlton could potentially still finish bottom 4 next year.
Plus it's one of the greatest gifts in footy when you get a to cheer even harder against another team you hate.

That would be a massive risk in my opinion. For one, who's to say Carlton may not make a decent jump next year? Secondly, you're throwing in a future 2nd rounder which is very valuable. The deal essentially moves us up 4 places in the draft, but we giver up the 7-8 in succession and a future second, and take a risk on Carlton being average next year. Don't like that one sorry.

How about Armo, Hickey and pick 8 for GC pick 2?

Armo would bring much needed leadership and Hickey would also be helpful. A slide on one pick might work for them as well as us.

Toot, toot! Ricky Nixon’s shock appearance at Trade HQ

EYEBROWS were raised at Trade HQ on Monday when former player agent Ricky Nixon made a surprise entrance.

In among the series of club list managers and footy bosses filtering through at Etihad Stadium throughout the morning, the controversial Nixon made his way past the awaiting media scrum with a wry smile.

Acting as an advisor throughout the trade period, Nixon revealed he would use his “25 years of experience” in the industry to aid any clubs or players seeking advice throughout the player movement window.

“A few clubs are asking for a bit of advice on some deals and things,” Nixon told NAB Trade Radio.

“I don’t want to go into it too much, but it’s the first time I’ve got back involved in this sort of area for six years.

“I’m not representing any players, but a number of players have sought advice. Those players are seeking 25 years of experience.”

Nixon went on to give his tips on what would happen throughout the trade period, predicting most deals would be completed during the final hours of the exchange window.

“Most drag out until the last day,” he said.

“The three clubs I spoke to walking through the car park, they’re just here to find out what’s on the table and then they’ll throw that around.

“They’ve got to go back to their coaches and their football managers. Most of the coaches are on holiday at the moment on a sunny beach somewhere.

“It all takes a bit of time.”

He's there to help with the Stringer trade, advising that Stringer would like to be paid in schoolgirls, & thus Ricky is the man who owns this department.

He went from "a few clubs approached me" to "I stalkishly harrassed a few clubs in the car park" in the space of one of interview.

FMD this campaigner is so mentally unstable he probably thinks he could mediate a peaceful resolution between North Korea and the US.

How’d that prick even score a gig there? How was he even allowed in the door?!

But Carlton could also shoot up the ladder, leaving the trade disastrous. I'd prefer we don't gamble in this manner. If we are trading for futures, we need to assume the worst like with the Hawks trade.

Dennis Rodman and Ricky Nixon. Perfect team

Brions would be very keen if stef martin really does want out.
He would be low on their priority list though, i reckon hick won't get addressed until the end of trade period.

We'd have to trade in some mature age plodder ruck for peanuts if we let hickey go though i reckon. (Spud lobbe?)
Billy goes down and there's a big gap to the rest.
Stef martin doesnt want out and wont be leaving. Settled in bris, mrs goes to uni up there and 100% will be there in 2018

based on the photo it looks like he's scored some small time shitty job with a blog type media organisation called Australian Sporting New or something like it, which has got him AFL Media accreditation

he's then rocked up as part of the media

i strongly doubt he has any involvement what so ever with any club or manager

It has obviously struck a nerve, but what have I said that is actually factually incorrect? The point is Ameet and Trout are treated like gods on this forum. Why?
Saintbill.....I feel your passion.......IMO Ameet and Trout are doing good jobs....I certainly don't look at them as Demi Gods.

But honestly.......what would you have done differently with the club from the 2013 draft up until now?

Yes...Paddy may still be a bust....more head knocks etc......but on the whole.....all at the helm have done a mighty job IMO rebuilding(there was no margin for error given our dire financial situation) the club from the smouldering wreck it was late 2013.

Looks like a few permission slips from a certain Western Bulldogs supporting family will have to be sent Ricky's way.

Hi guys, I'm back to say that Schache to Carlton will probably be a huge deal for us to be part of, of course that and Brisbane's alleged interest in Hickey means we should clearly get involved.

Between the three clubs involved there are currently picks 1, 3, 7, 8, 12 and 18.

Then with the probable Gibbs trade Carlton will probably end up with pick 16, Rockliff going to Port will no doubt net Brisbane pick 19 also.

That's 8 top 20 picks between three clubs. Then there is Schache and Hickey to potentially be involved in the moves.

I'm not going to try to nut out any potential trades but if we found a way to part with 7, 8 and Hickey and end up with either 1 or 3 and 12 (doubtful), 16 or 18, then I would be very confident we would not only get an absolute a grader, Raynor or Dow but also a potential a grader with our second first, like O'Brien. I'd be hoping for 7, 8 and Hickey for 1 & 16.

If all three clubs work together and fairly, those 8 picks should be able to shuffle around and keep everyone happy with their haul.
