Evidence of change at Collingwood - the watch thread

We've got a new (interim) CEO.

We've got new branding.

We've got a new tagline.

Some players come, some players go - just like every year.

Some assistant coaches come, some assistant coaches go - just like pretty much every year.

What change of substance are you observing around the club that wouldn't have happened in the past?

What things are different to what we might have seen in the past?

I'll kick this off ...

... earlier in the week I (a NSW member) received an email from the club titled 'Collingwood are coming to Sydney'. Turns out the email was informing me about the draw and that Collingwood will be playing Swans in round 20 next year.

Of course Collingwood play the Swans in Sydney every year. Often they even play Giants as well. Nothing odd about that. What was noticeably different were two things ...

(1) The club sent out an email that was targeted to me as a NSW interstate member (The only time I have ever got those in the past were about the disorganised and cumbersome logistics of getting to me the free ticket to the interstate game I'm entitled to)

(2) The club acknowledging that there's a world outside of inner Melbourne. To be fair, they did seem to make an attempt of that circa 2013ish, but that disappeared again pretty quickly until now.

Just like every year the club sent out a survey form, and like every year I dutifully filled it out and added a bunch of prose providing constructive feedback. Dunno if it's really the case, but this year I feel like somebody might have read what I (and no doubt many others) wrote and might actually be doing something about it.

Party drugs to protein. Good young lads and lasses now ;)

I am singlehandedly taking the credit for the FOREVER slogan in 2018.

The Club obviously took my "advise" :$ in regards to the diluted message from the constant use of "Side By Side" in my survey recommendations.

No captain's picks to select the next CEO; instead we're going through an exhaustive recruitment process that may be leaving everyone exhausted.

Not sure if it's actually new evidence but I was pleased with the response I received from the club after I emailed them and asked for it to be forwarded to Derek Hine RE:The merits of drafting Tyler Keitel.

Now I'm not sure if the response I received after 3 days or so was a generic reply sent out to all who enquire about potential draft targets as it didn't mention Tyler specifically or it was a unique reply that wanted to remain diplomatic and professional and not divulge information about any one individual.

It might have been a combination of both I guess.

Either way in a polite manner I got what I wanted to convey off my chest and felt that I had been at least recognised for my passion, time and effort by the club.

I'm so glad I don't have the job of reading Collingwood's email inbox...

Lou Richards on the far left I think, can anyone tell me who is on the far right? Also can anyone know who is between Daicos and Brown?

far right is Bob Rose, think it's Syd?? Coventry between Daicos and Brown
Edit: we have a match!!

PS - In the "early days" when we bought our finals tickets at Vic Park, I think it was Syd Coventry (then President) who pressed an extra finals ticket into my hand - can't remember if we won that match or not...

The one and only Bobby Rose is on the far right (but not politically I believe).

So Bob Rose was politically leftward leaning, perhaps socialist or something like that?

They have realised that a good way to improve football handling skills is to handle footballs more often. The review just paid for itself.

*Chuckles.

Posters who do not recognise Bob Rose need a severe reprimand. Not immediately recognising Syd Coventry may be excused with the passage of time.

To be fair I was pretty sure it was Bob Rose. For the older peeps on here was Bob Rose our greatest player what was he like as a footballer...

The quietest trade period in 5 or 6 years. I see this as positive, and not evidence of us falling behind the Essendons and Carltons of the world, who traded out of their skins. Also a positive indication that we are backing our younger players to improve in 2018, including those hovering in the 20-40 game range. We didn't panic!

I also emailed the club, on an AFLW matter, and got a reasonable and helpful response within a few days. Happy with that.

Actually I have no idea, but I thought it looked good in my post.:)

If I had to label Bobby, I'd describe him as a man of great integrity and humanity. I don't recall any Collingwood person who was as loved and revered by the Collingwood faithful. He was worshipped.

I never saw him play - I'm told he was one of our best ever players. Dead unlucky as a coach - '64, '66, '70. Always a gentleman, great sport. Stoically put up with family tragedy - son Robert (now deceased) left a quadriplegic after a car accident. Bob used to bring him in a wheelchair to Vic Park games.
