Why is there auch a stigma around Tall players in the Wet and that smaller players are better in wet conditions?

Is it simply the ball is on the ground more and smaller players can bend over and pick it up better?

Wet weather football is less clean. It becomes about getting numbers to the contest. Although, every 'game plan' is based upon getting numbers to the contest. Nothing really changes, but fitness becomes key when the game is less clean. Having said that, the skills of modern players have improved so much that you'd barely notice the game is being played in wet conditions. Either way, hard running wins the day.

Overall I don't think we are too tall. Down back we do not have a third tall over 190cm. Also Fog plays a very physical, contested game that should be good in the wet. I would not be surprised to see him get a few minutes in the middle tomorrow. Guys like lynch and Gov are very mobile. If it comes down to a bang and crash game I think we are well suited.

Rain should be through tomorrow before game starts but wind will have, let's just say, a noticeable effect on the game.

I actually prefer the statement that people don't get shorter in the wet.

Jeez if we’re worried being too tall for Collingwood we may as well pack our bags and go home!
Mason Cox is in their forward line.

A part of me says 'This shapes up as one of those games in which we play far below our best and get pushed.'
Part of me says 'Pfft, we are certainties against this rabble.'
Same, often.
I thought we'd beat Essendon.
After that loss, I thought we'd get done by Richmond, yes, even at home.
I thought we'd beat the Saints, easily.
The Pies are down personnel on the team that pushed us last year, but so are we. I wanna say Crows by 8+ goals, but any complacency or we-should-win-this from our players ==> trouble.

I think the Fog being in our team this year has helped lift the intensity of everyone in the team. He sets the standard in terms of the aggression needed in going for ball/body. This helps us to be less complacent overall, and hopefully do with a good solid win again this week.
Doedee and Fogarty in 3-4 games have already helped us get over the pain of losing Lever/Cameron. Amazing to think this when at the start of the season, who knew what to expect?!

I know I'm pinching another bloke's format, but ---
Last week, Fogarty out: melt.
This week, Fogarty back: melt (we'll be too tall in the wet!! *sob gnash wail wring hands*).
Maybe play Gov back?: melt.
Most reasonable suggestions: melt.
Poke fun at melts: melt. :D

It's why we keep logging on BigFooty. Deep down, we're all suckers for melts!

I find this melts talk such poxy crap.

Posters are allowed to express an opinion on our teams selection, otherwise it would be one short thread. Here’s the changes, followed by “good” “I agree with that”. End thread.

The changes this week are unusual, love having Fog back but going in too tall in the wet is a concern. It’s a common concern, generally wet weather football means it’s a ground ball game. Might be a masterstroke, might be a shocker, either way worthy of discussion so can we leave the “melt” drivel alone?

Last week went pretty much as both our club spokespersons and a number on this board thought it would.
Seems to me that Collingwood have some talent in the midfield. The club are saying that they expect a real challenge and need to be on their game. I agree. While I expect us to win I also expect that we will have to work for it and if we are off we are vulnerable.

Sounds like the mindset from September 30th 2017.
In what way? Which young gun did we add to the grand final squad? Otten??

You think we lost the gf at the selection table? Not me, says mental side we got done in my opinion.

Also, we are playing Collingwood at home - and not Richmond at the MCG. Huge difference.

Unless it’s acid rain, really strong acid rain

Lol. Melt.

I reckon Fog genuinely needed a rest and was only sent over last week in case Lynch did not play. The club was probably 95% certain Lynch would play.

Seems the club will be putting AFL games into Fog this year and play him when he is physically capable.

As we have been doing with Milera.

The balance of the side may not look great on paper. But I don't mind that we are doing this with two guys that have genuine raw talent and have played well in senior mens footy before being drafted.

To me this outweighs the balance issue as I always prefer to have as many guys with genuine top end talent and footy smarts in the side.
