Can only speak for me. With Hanners I’m more just worried about his body than doubting his long term skill

Jack tackled well
The most sensible thing said about Hanners yet.

It’s his body which is the concern. Nobody would surely doubt his desire or his skills, they don’t disappear due to injury.

I hope he can get his body right.

I really do not see the point of playing him until he is right.

How is it odd?
Brisbane lost by only 3 goals

In a low scoring day when the weather was vin ordinaire, 19 points was a sizeable margin and comfortable.

Just sayin
Could have gone the other way easily enough based on actual play

Fair enough

I just felt it was salad roll in the coaches box kind of comfortable win to be honest

Horse's word in the Presser indicate he thought it was a bit too close for his liking and luckily our defence held.. Lucky we won in some respects.
Horse understands a few kicks different and the result might have been different

"The Swans won by 18 points to move into the top four but had to withstand a final quarter deluge of inside 50s from a home team that could sniff an upset.

Brisbane kicked 2.6 to 2.1 from 21 inside 50s as Sydney repelled attack after attack.

SWANS SLICK IN WET Full match coverage and stats

With Mills breaking his foot in a freak accident earlier this week, the new-look Swans' defensive set-up passed their first test, led by the cool heads of Heath Grundy, Jarrad McVeigh, Zak Jones and the impressive Jake Lloyd.

Longmire said the back six covered for some mistakes further afield.

"We put our defenders under the pump too much in that last quarter," Longmire said.

SWAN DEFENDERS STEP UP Five talking points

"We got beaten around the clearances (52-40) too much at times and weren't as consistent around there as what we should have been, in particular that last quarter.

"We put our defence under pressure, but they stood up really well and were able to prevent some goal-scoring opportunities for the opposition."

George Hewett (10) and captain Josh Kennedy (seven) were the only players with more than four clearances as the midfield battled to break even against a Lions team spearheaded by Mitch Robinson (13) and Dayne Beams (nine) in that department.

Stefan Martin hammered Callum Sinclair in the ruck to give his team the best opportunity of using the ball first.

Longmire was also disappointed with his team's discipline, giving away 30 free kicks to 25.

"We didn't adjust to the whistle as quickly as we should have," he said.

"It was red-hot around that scramble.

"We'll acknowledge what we did well. We thought our defence really stood up in that last quarter.

"We were happy with some aspects of our game but most importantly we were happy with the win.

"Brisbane, here, they're not an easy team to get over.
"They've got some talent, they go in hard, they had 80-plus tackles tonight.

"We feel that was a really tough game and to come away with a win, we're pleased with that."

Not ever, but he is playing extremely well. He’s got to take that centering kick from deep defence out of his game though, he keeps turning that one over and it’s cost him 2/3 goals in the past few weeks.

No he doesn't, he is there for exactly that kick. To push the envelope and open up the fast transition direct through the middle.

Because he is taking those kicks (and frankly you don't want Jones, Grundy or Rampe to have to) he will turn it over more often but he is well ahead on the flip side from his use of the ball going forward through the corridor.

I know he had a few more strings to his bow but Ronke’s snap had a bit of GAJ about it... absolute poetry

spot on ... he has the goal sense and time that GAJ had as a young player ... but the little Honky Tonk, unlike GAJ enjoys tackling.

No I wasn't expecting that. But it was just a slog. I think we are a much more talented side than that. Funnily enough I think they are too. There is an old saying 'Good sides play the wet like it was dry'. In other words if you have the all round skill you play good footy in all weather. I thought the coaches coached for a particular outcome today. They wanted to manage the damage. Funnily enough if they had played the game on it's merits it could have been an absolute ball buster. But they just used the old rugby union bottle up tactic. It was ugly. Yes we controlled the game. Yes we won. But quite frankly it isn't a game I will be frantic to watch again. If the horrific nature of the skills was not enough to turn me off then the lack of scoring was. It is exactly the sort of game the media is yelling about. Disgusting!!! I want to see the Swans score goals. We have the ability to score multiple goals but not playing that sort of game. In the second and third quarters it wasn't raining but we still played the game like it was. So did they. The surface was a little slippery but not too much. Our whole game tonight consisted on bombing the ball in long hoping for a crumb. That was it!!Not exactly the best game plan in the book.

That old saying must be VERY old, because I've never once heard anyone say it. If anything, it's more about how a game looks rather than the intent of the coaches/teams. I would highly doubt even the most skilled team in the comp would play a wet game like it was dry. That's nonsense.

I thought Hewett had a great game. His form seems to be on the turn, his possessions were more meaningful. It could be that he was taken off the hard tag on zorko he started with and instead started moving to space to receive etc, but I thought he did really well in the middle too.

Yes, I’ve never heard it either, and I’m really old.

Rule no.1 in football is don’t turn over the football. Rule no.2 do not centre football from the back pocket (especially in risky environs) or you will end up with Ablett/Cousins 2005 MkII.
