Collingwood midfielder Adam Treloar is likely to be sidelined until late August due to hamstring injuries he suffered in the final quarter of Sunday’s match against Carlton at the MCG.

After a consultation with a specialist today, it was confirmed that Treloar hurt both hamstrings in an awkward tumble; he has tendon damage to the hamstring in his left leg and a strain of the hamstring in his right.

Surgery to repair the tendon injury is required and is expected to occur before the end of the week.

The stop to Treloar’s season is the result of what Collingwood's General Manager of Football, Geoff Walsh, has described as a freakish occurrence. Treloar was nudged as he sought to sprint by Carlton’s Lochie O’Brien along the member’s wing boundary.

“Adam stumbled, his left leg locked and before he tumbled to the ground his left leg stretched beyond its limit. It seems that he strained his right leg on the way down as he tried to compensate for the force pushing his through his left,” Walsh explained.

“It is certainly highly unusual, to injure both hamstrings at once. No-one can recall it happening before in football.

“Still, Adam is a fantastic professional and we have no doubt that he will commit himself to the most thorough recovery possible.

“As to what the immediate future holds, we’ll know more after the surgery and his rehabilitation begins.”

Treloar has been a remarkably durable player through his career. He has played no less than 18 matches in any of his six completed seasons and all 13 thus far in 2018.

He has played 134 of a possible 144 matches since 2012 and 56 of a possible 57 for Collingwood, after crossing to the Holden Centre from Greater Western Sydney at the end of the 2015 season

Back for finals where we will need him.

I am shattered for him levendi.

Only a miracle will get him back for finals...…..love your optimism.

I unhappy too. But being the consummate professional he is, I’m sure he’ll be back fully ready to go. Also, due to his mentioned meticulous preparation habits I wouldn’t even discount him recovering and being available a couple of weeks ahead of schedule.

Late August is better than 2019. He will be the ace up our sleeve come finals.

This may even be a blessing in disguise and now we will have to figure out an equally potent set up - look for degoey to go to a completely new level.

Silver lining

As others have mentioned

Option a
Murray hbf Maynard released
Option b
Reid in Murray in
Crisp released and howe wing
Option c
Seir in

Plenty of options

Next 2 games good opportunity to mix it up

Smash the dons

Think murrays gonna be important

The fact they haven't said his season is done is encouraging.

Hopefully it's just the 8 weeks and he's back for Round 23/Week 1 of finals (if the footy gods allow us to participate in September)

We will play finals. 100%. Bucks is creating a machine. When a cog breaks, as good as Adams is, we replace it with a new one

We’ve had injuries all year and just like before we will make this work.

The problem is this morning I did Doctor Google on hamstrings and everything I read wasn't good.

I usually am glass half full but seriously I am over the "bad luck" we have had with injuries...…..two f kn hamstrings at once FFS!

I believe in miracles.

Last year I saw the team come from a certain loss against the Hawks. I never thought Reid and Elliott would ever play again after their injuries. I thought we would get dudded big time in the Beams trade. I saw Maxwell pull us from the depths to draw the GF.

We are Pies. We are used to adversity. We are the hunters now not the favourites and we can still play out the HA to make finals and then literally anything can happen.

Injuries happen. The apparent mishandling of them by medical staff is a major cause for concern, but his hammies blew out regardless.

I am huge AT fan and it SUCKS that he's out for a couple of months, particularly as he was in AA form, but it will create opportunities for others.

Sier is bashing the door down.

I really hope he can come in and grasp an opportunity to stamp himself as an AFL level big bodied mid and we rejig our rotations to accommodate him as seemlessly as possible.

In the meantime, AT is a pro through and through and will leave no stone unturned in his recovery. His attitude is second to none and he will keep his teammates up throughout. Expect to see him back ASAP to give us a huge boost to our finals campaign.

Shattered... He was definitely on track for all australian and would have been right up there on brownlow night if he continued with the form he was in..

He won't be fit (as in he'll have no match fitness) - there's realistically no chance of him playing finals as *any* sign of soreness during rehab will set him back further (actually they'll just shut him down).

Hamstrings are unfortunately the one thing you can't push even if you are diligent in your preparation and rehab - 8-10 weeks is an absolute best case scenario if it's a rupture requiring surgery and that's just for returning to competitive football, not being ready for finals footy at AFL level.

I agree. If he has to have surgery then I cant see him getting back this year.

I don’t expect him to play again this year. Expect he will immerse himself in rehab and try to have himself getting some minutes in the VFL for round 22/23.

If Dale Morris can do his ACL at the start of the year and is already back playing; Goldsack ACL in JLT and ahead of schedule with 9-10 weeks remaining - so can Treloar (obvs different injuries).

Okay, we have the confirmation now. No use sitting around with a woe is me attitude. Let's look forward to Round 15 against the Suns and take a bigger picture view. Like Eddie said last night's in seasons past this would have been a dagger in the heart. This season, however, we've been building some belief and a fantastic game plan that doesn't require Treloar to carry the load for us like he has before.
