cool. Lets do away with the Coleman medal in the format it is then. And the brownlow while we are at it. I mean totals mean sweet **** all anyway.

Jesus H Christ.

The Coleman medal is an award based on totals. Averages per game make no difference. While people view the Coleman as an award for best goalkicker, it isn't, it's for most goals. The player with the most goals is often also the best goalkicker, this is not always true.

The AA is an accolade based on who plays better. You have to play a decent number of games to enable a comparison, but in the end, it's not about numbers.

You have 2 players, 1 kicked 300 goals in 300 games. 1 kicked 200 goals in 50 games.

Who kicked the most goals in their career?
Who is the better goalkicker?

I think Brown deserves to make it, but if he is relying on arguments like the ones you are making to support his case, he is cooked.

I am obviously biased. But for me Darling is a lock.

Even the most high profile west coast hater of all time, in Garry Lyon, even said on the weekend that Darling was the best player in the comp before his injury. That is saying something.
I would pick Darling first if picking a team to play. I think he is the most versatile of the names being bandied about, and offers the most other than goalkicker.

That the role of a FF is to kick goals, and Brown has 10 more than anyone else.

Also, someone already called you out for highlighting similar marking stats three times to try to make Hawkins look stronger. In nearly all of those stats the top ten are separated by less than one stat per game. For example, Brown is #6 for marks inside 50, but only 0.6 per game behind Hawkins. Not even one less mark inside 50 per game. The discrepancies are minor.

And just some quick fact-checking:

- Buddy is going at 8.5 score involvements per game, Cameron at 8.3, Hawkins 8.1. Why have you listed Hawkins as #1?

- You said Brown isn't top 5 in any other category. He is going at 0.8 assists per game, which puts him 4th behind Buddy and Riewoldt who are equal second (0.9). So 0.4 behind Hawkins in 1st, and 0.1 behind 2nd. Again, ridiculously minor.

Well no, the role of a full forward is to facilitate scoring. The primary means of doing this, obviously, is to kick goals.
But in an extreme example, if a full forward sets up his teammates for 5 goals a game and scores 2 a game, does he have more impact than a player who kicks 3 but only sets up teammates for 1?

Not sure if you have enough tall forwards. Are you certain you don't want to squeeze a fifth one in there?

First of all he has Grimes twice

But Yes teams can have that number in the AA team, but look at the people he has in and where they are. Dusty in the forward pocket, no way should he be given the forward pocket spot in the AA team based on this year.

Has Cotchin in on the field but no room for Tom Mitchell, can you honestly say Cotchin deserves that spot over Mitchell?

Don't think it's unfair to say he has maybe a little bit of bias in that team.
Clearly a mistake to have Grimes twice. Swap Dusty and Bruest around. Problem solves.
Cotchin over Mitchell? Nope. But Fyfes in the team and since hes missed to many games swap him out for Mitchell.

AA team for mine at the moment:

B: Blicavs, Sicily, Hurn
HB: Stewart, Laird, Whitfield
C: Gaff, Macrae, Higgins
FO: Gawn, Cripps, Mitchell
HF: Darling/Franklin (can't split), Hawkins, B. Brown
F: De Goey, Riewoldt, Breust/Coniglio (can't split)
INT: D. Smith, Fyfe, Westhoff, Oliver/Brayshaw (can't split)

Other 18 in the squad of 40 in no particular order:

Breust/Coniglio, Oliver/Brayshaw, Darling/Franklin, Beams, Grundy, T. Kelly, Caddy, J. Lloyd, Vlaustin, Sidebottom, Howe, T. McDonald, Nic Nat, C. Curnow, Yeo, Astbury, I. Smith, S. Martin

I'm sure there'll be plenty who'll disagree, and this could change drastically over the coming weeks, but this is what I've got after careful thought, viewing the season as a whole and no bias applied. Let me know what you think and who I may have missed!
Brayshaw is nowhere near the top 40, let alone the 22.

Are coaches votes the deciding stat. If so I’m happy to revisit the Stewart v Whitfield debate

Not necessarily. Just people said Stewart was rubbish against Melb and that was a mark against him being AA and I was just pointing out that that particular thought was not shared by the coaches or the afl site.

Fair enough. Can we agree with Sicily out both Stewart and Whitfield make the team

Yes, he does, and I accept what you're saying. But I don't agree with rating all those other stats on the same scale as scoring goals itself. Otherwise we'd have awards for all those other stats if they were as important to the game.

Brown currently sits on 65 for goals+goal assists, which is 6 clear of 2nd placed Hawkins.

I don’t think Lachie Whitfield has been that good. I would have either Jake Lloyd or Shannon Hurn as the replacement for Sicily for one of the spots across half back.

B: Tom Jonas, Robbie Tarrant, Tom Stewart

HB: Jake Lloyd, Jeremy McGovern, Rory Laird

C: Steele Sidebottom, Tom Mitchell, Andrew Gaff

HF: Jack Darling, Tom Hawkins, Josh Caddy

F: Luke Breust, Ben Brown, Robbie Gray

R: Brodie Grundy, Nathan Fyfe, Patrick Cripps

INT: Shaun Higgins, Clayton Oliver, Max Gawn, Joel Selwood

I didn't post those numbers.

Score involvements isn't just goals + goal assists either.
well he is third for key forward score involvements behind hogan and hawkins (and with reiwoldt roughead and brown all within 7). He is first for averages among key fowards, but theres only 0.43 per game between him and 3rd and only 1 per game difference between him and 5th.

My point still stands. He is not far and away better performing than other key forwards to be considered a lock. Only brown could be considered a lock because he is a full forward and a long way ahead in the coleman.

Decent. Correct Geelong midfielder. Better than Dangerfield.
Literally the only questionable selection is Fyfe as he will no doubt fall out soon enough.

Didn't want to make too many changes this week. Sicily will be out next week, Fyfe probably the week after.

I thought I showed great restraint not putting Tom Hawkins in every spot on the forward line after Saturday night.

Forward line is too tall.

Darling probably gets the cut unless he rediscovers his early season form again.

Think Yeo could sneak into the bench as a utility. Not a fan of him being named as a defender.

Cant believe some people still think Cotchins value is in his disposal count. Lmao.
Even the coaches have 13 midfielders in front of him on this years form. Therefore he isn't AA
