ODI Squad vs India Announced

On the Roar website it says NCN was left out due to lower back soreness but has still been named in the Scorchers squad for tomorrow. Does anyone have any info on that?

Fair to say I am not impressed. As a Melbourne Stars foundation member this happens to us every year. We lose 4 players this year our best 4 players in the team and we have to play the top of the ladder Hurricanes too which HAVE NO PLAYERS SELECTED. This is ridiculous. They take our captain and vice captain we have no other leader in our team so what are we going to do now??? I am so angry with the selectors and this decision that they have made.
Australian team > BBL.

This is not new for the Stars, if they keep giving money to Stoinis, Zampa and Maxwell (Handscomb not so much) they should not be surprised if they get picked for teams they have been a regular part of for an extended time. The team is no way should not be picked based on the BBL squad composition.

It's only 3 ODIs over the course of a week. If we assume they go into camp 2 days beforehand, the Stars will only miss them for 2 games.

Who gives a s**t anyway? Maybe in a generation's time BBL will be ingrained into people in a similar way that footy teams are - but they're a long way from that now. Would anyone honestly prefer to see players turn out for their mickey mouse BBL team ahead of the national team?

On the team itself, it proves again that form doesn't matter, but we already knew that...

3 ODI's in close proximity is a heavier load than 8 bbl overs, it's only pain they just don't want to push their luck

Is Pete Siddle a specialist 12th man? WTF is he doing in an ODI squad?

Disappointed Weatherald is still snubbed. Deserves to get a chance in the short form given his record in List A cricket. Would have also thought Tremain would have been a chance in the ODI squad too.

I'm not convinced Short, Tye or Lynn are good enough at international level and I know they were poor in that South Africa series but they really should be in the team. We've seen the success of New Zealand and England with their aggressive batting. Short and Lynn are our best exponents of that and have been in good touch in the BBL after having very good JLT series'. They need to be given a long run to see if they're good enough. Tye as well, we need to find a death bowler before the World Cup, need to give him the chance to see if he's good enough. Why would you pick Siddle ahead of him? Happy to see Richardson and Behrendorrf in the squad though.

My team would probably be:

Finch, Khawaja, S. Marsh, Maxwell, Stoinis, M. Marsh, Carey, Richardson, Zampa/Lyon, Behrendorrf, Stanlake.

Would be surprised if we won this series.

still no closer to figuring our best ODI XI. World Cup is 5 months away.
Easy:

Warner
Finch
S Marsh
Smith
Carey (+)
Stoinis
M Marsh
Agar
Starc
Richardson
Lyon

For me anyway.

I’m disappointed Pattinson wasn’t selected especially over ******* Siddle.
What better opportunity to get him back in the national system then a ODI series.
Selectors are aweful
Pattinson is a ******* woeful limited overs bowler.

No Head? That's a weird one. They keep persisting with Marcus one match wonder.

Dropping Lynn and Short is a step in the right direction in terms of mentality. Pretty optimistic about the side on paper.

From batting that is, is a certified Second XI of bowlers for obvious reasons.

Mate, its only Mickey Mouse cricket, I'm sure you'll survive.

I would have stuck with Short until Warner comes back. I think they have gone too far the other way with the batsman picked.

He can't have any complaints given his form at international level but unlike a few of the others dropped his form back at domestic level has still been A grade so was worth persisting with back in Australian conditions IMO.

Finch
Short/Warner
S.Marsh
Head/Smith
Maxwell
Stoinis
+Carey

That is how I would have went now and for the WC.

Head averages almost 35 in ODI cricket at a strike rate of 90.
can't have too many players with a half reasonable batting average playing can we.

While being shunted around the order. He's batted at 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7

Had to make room for lead boots Pete wielding his toothpick for an ODI average of 21.

lmao at the Langer melts in here if it was a WA player getting picked with that.

Break out the garlic and wooden stakes boys, cause Mitch 'More Comebacks Than John Farnham' Marsh has risen from the dead again

This series is going to be a bloodbath

Mitch marsh averages 35 with the bat, 35 with the ball.

Pete Handscomb 21 with the bat.

No doubt you are all cool with the second getting a run though.

Mitch Marsh in ODI's:

Batting: 49 innings', 1428 runs, average of 35.70, strike rate of 93.08, 1 century, 11 fifties
Bowling: 50 innings', 283.2 overs, 44 wickets, average of 35.54, economy rate of 5.52, strike rate of 38.6

Those numbers are excellent for a batting all rounder in ODI cricket, around the same level as Ben Stokes, superior to the likes of Moeen Ali and Glenn Maxwell. You're just showing that you have nfi about ODI cricket.

Did you watch the JLT? Handscomb was one of the best batsmen in the comp.
