Wow.

By the way, getting back to timeouts, how many non American sports use them?

One that I know of - Team Handball.

First played in late 19th century in Denmark. Invented by Nicolaj Ernst in 1897 in Nyborg, Denmark. In team handball, one sixty-second time-out per half per team is allowed. Time-outs are called by the head coach by handing a green time-out card to the match official, and can only be called when the team is in possession of the ball

This is why we have 2 captains now.

To handle the in game instruction that runners are usually responsible for.
It's a good move.

Are we arguing that Americans invented timeouts?
They did.

Port being kissed on it, Melbourne will be missing a few.

Torn, hate seeing Port win but Melbourne losing could help us if we are pushing for top 4.

Port don't exactly have any power forwards that would make a difference. May obviously didn't play for them last season anyway so the Demons should still be beating teams like Port at home if the they are to finish top 4.

Not playing for them last season is not really relevant since they essentially swapped Jesse Hogan for May and will play port with neither.

Melbourne bat pretty deep on key defenders (albeit inexperienced ones) and Dixon won't be back for Round 1 I don't think, so it's probably workable.

It's not as if Dixon is a world beater at the best of times, even less so coming back from injury.

For all those Port supporters who continue to try and argue that the Crows should be paying 2 million dollars a year at AAMI, I just found out some interesting information during the week about Alberton Oval.

Port pay the Port Adelaide/Enfield Council around 100k a year for Alberton Oval.

The breakdown is along the lines of 20k per year for use of the oval, 40k per year for the car park area which has been converted to the Port Club and also 40k to the Council for the license to play SANFL games there.

The Council apparently do all the upkeep and maintanence on the ground which apparently costs the councils around 200k a year.
So how does football park cost 10x Alberton for upkeep? Could it be that the $2m was plucked out of someone’s arse? Or it was the running cost when football was actually played at the oval and maintenance and cleaning needed to be performed every week for 6 months (albeit with every second week being cheap as only 5 people attended the ground).

Maybe the cleaners were booked for decades thinking football would always be played there?

Interesting to see the noise around runners and some players and teams wanting the old rules re-implemented. It's the younger, more inexperienced teams that will be affected more, especially when scores are tight and games are on the line. Let's see if the AFL stand their ground on this one.
What is the rules with using radios in AFL?

The players have a GPS behind their head, surely you get a GPS with abut in radio and speaker that can be used to communicate with the players, so each player can be communicated with directly. The idea of a runnier is pretty archaic.

Do we really want Campo, Doc and Harty talking to our players the whole time?
