Particularly given we seem to have given up on him being a midfielder...... rightly.

It's certainly looked that way so far. You can always slowly add back those minutes to Gallucci as the season rolls on as well.

Richard Douglas has had surgery on his ankle and will be out for 2 months.

Hard to see how he makes it back into the team. At the same time, he will be straight back into the team.
Personally think he has played his last game for us.

In two months time whoever takes that spot should own it. We may see Milera's move to the midfield rotation accelerated.

He is 31 and it is a difficult injury to come back from.

Of course not.

What will happen is Douglas' injury will mean Mackay will stay in the side, keeping his spot warm. The justification will be that we need that senior experience. Then when Douglas is ready to return, Mackay will stay in the side and a young bloke, probably Jones, will get "managed", paving the way for Douglas to return. Jones then finds himself in the SANFL after his week off.

We've seen the playbook before.

You're becoming more cynical by the day.

Wouldn't it be nice if what I suggested was completely ridiculous; unfathomably impossible?

But you know that because we've done it before, we'll do it again
By the time Dougy comes back both he and Dave will be in the SANFL

We all thought Mackay wouldn't make our round 1 team and what happened? One injury, and there he is. History shows that Mackay playing SANFL is extremely unlikely

Whilst I tend to agree with such a scenario.

I think physically he may struggle. It is a reasonably serious injury.

When has that ever been an issue for us selecting senior players? I'll point you to the last few years: Jacobs, Walker, Jenkins, Betts, Sloane, etc.

Didn't we rush McGovern straight back into the side last year with basically the same injury? (with disastrous results)

That is true, no doubt.

We still have best 22 guys to come back in in this instance mind you, Brown back in 4 or so weeks and Greenwood a week away.

Walker played SANFL after his knee, Sloane is one of those rare players who doesn't need SANFL time as his return showed, Smith played SANFL.

Different calibre of player.

Also Saunders in charge now.

Dougie also older than those guys when they were rushed back. I doubt he will be fit for most of this year ie late August.

Yes, I saw him play in our Twos last year and he looked very composed and ready to step into the AFL. His third match was against Sturt at Unley Oval and his hammy exploded. He was then put in cottonwool so he would get a flying start to the preseason. It seems that once his hammy was better, his groin problems returned.

Other than very dodgy hamstrings and groins, he has a perfect physique for AFL .
Needs to talk to Brouch’s surgeon me thinks.

Jesus, dude. Who knew that we’d get not one but two injuries that meant he’d be selected? He’s in the frigging team, and has done enough to stay in it for now. Just get over it. Douglas won’t be rushed back in. This is a tough injury to overcome.

Did anyone see that Sam Shaw is apparently suing the club and the doctors for negligent treatment of concussion?

Obviously I would have no idea as an outsider of the club, but my memory was that we never rushed him back into games and even re-rookied him to provide ongoing access to the medicos.

I've heard this morning that Seedsman's injury isn't an ACL. Genuinely hoping the (cringe that I have to use this word) mail is correct.
You get an instant Immunity Card in both the Lock and Goal kicking games if you're right!

Have heard It’s a lateral collateral ligament and some bone bruising or damage. Maybe 8 weeks, not whole season.
