Post SANFL

B Murphy - Talia - Hartigan
HB Laird - Keath - Smith
C Milera - Sloane - Gibbs
HF Jones - Walker - Greenwood
F Betts - Jenkins - Stengle
R O'Brien - M. Crouch - B. Crouch

I Poholke - Knight - Davis - Gallucci

This would mean:

Out: Seedsman (knee), Kelly, Lynch, Atkins, Mackay
In: Gallucci, Stengle, Davis, Greenwood, Poholke

6 goals for Poholke in two weeks plus 50 odd touches makes him a genuine forward option.

Murphy to the back pocket, Stengle into the forward pocket, Gallucci to play pure wing, Greenwood and Poholke rotating forward/center, Jones more on the ball, Davis a genuine X-factor inside 50 target

Given they played Fog as a defender he ain’t coming in as a forward so I’ve tweaked my team and kept in mind the selectors won’t drop certain players.

B: Murphy Talia Hartigan
HB: Smith Keath Gibbs
C: Laird Sloane Atkins
HF: Knight Tex Milera
F: Greenwood Jenkins Betts

R: O’Brien Matt Brad

I/C: Lynch Mackay Jones Poholke

Not my ideal team as our forward line woes are still there, out of form older forwards but we won’t drop Betts for Stengle.

Milera to be rotating mid.

So we all know how this club rolls. It'll be

Greenwood and CEY
Seedsman and Jones.

So instead I'll have a look at who I think is close to the mark and who is under the pump.

Greenwood - Based on performance at SANFL level you wouldn't pick him, in fact he wouldn't be in the top 6. But we've said we wanted to get miles into his legs and we've done so, so play him.

Poholke - I rated the kid in his draft year, but his body wasn't ready to play the style he wanted to at AFL level. If they don't pick him now they never will. If he played for anyone else he would have 6 votes already. 53 possessions and 6 goals.... That's enough, piss Gibbs off.

CEY - Purely because he's too good for the level, just don't know where to play him. Probably doesn't fit in the side due to his lack of flexibility.

Scholl - Super super impressive, albeit he makes DMac look fat. Very quick, very evasive and his kicking has been elite. He will tire so get him in while he's in form for a few games.

McHenry - The more I see the more I like. A much more talented version of Riley Knight. Runs hard, smart with his disposal and isn't afraid to get in opponents faces. Play him before we coach it out of him.

Stengle - Didn't get the goals last night but he always looks dangerous unlike our current small forwards. Gets to the ball drop every time, my only query is he doesn't have manic pressure.

I only left Davis out because he doesn't quite do enough when the chips are down.... And they are down now.

As for the other side of the page

Betts - He's covering the deck as well as ever actually, but he barely has 30m in his kick anymore and seems lost a little bit. Fixing the structure may help, but the end is coming.

Gibbs - When the going gets tough, Bryce turns his toes up. He used the ball OK Friday but created exactly nothing with it. Because he's the big name he gets a gold ticket, let's try him off half-back and get a midfielder in who will contribute.

Murphy - Not an AFL standard forward and never will be. Got drafted after a brilliant season as a small defender in the 2s so umm I dunno...... Play him there ??

Kelly - Love his endeavour, love his intent but he just isn't that good. Too slow, can't kick.

Knight - Please Riley, try and get a few more kicks before you go the Steph Curry celebrations..... you're not that good. I wonder what he could have been if not for constant injury, unlike Brouch he doesn't have the talent to make up for lost time.

Atkins - Whipping Boy started the season with 2 solid enough games..... Thursday was unacceptable. Won't be dropped but we have given him the flick before.

Mackay - Yes I know he's staying until the apocalypse but he's in the list.

Tex/Jenkins - One cops all the flack but they've both been very ordinary this year. Is it structure ?? Possibly. Is it ball use to them ?? Most definitely. Are they cooked?? Hopefully not but signs aren't great.

So as you can see there's more problems than solutions at a player level. Maybe a change of personnel in some instances will help some of the others, changes of structure will help and the others can just GTFO

You absolutely can not drop Jones, he is the only player in the entire forward line who can actually put pressure on.

Chuck him in the midfield at centre bounces and maybe the opo won't walk away into the 50 with the ball
Yeah they will.

I like Jones but a guy like Danger or Kelly would just flick him off like he isn't there.

Put him on Rats wing, he immediately provides more physical presence and it gets him around the pull more.

Drop Walker, Sloane can toss the coin now and that makes Tex 100% redundant.
I believe this was done for that reason except the club was too cowardly to follow through properly.
Might take half a season for the dropping to SANFL though.

Knight - Please Riley, try and get a few more kicks before you go the Steph Curry celebrations..... you're not that good. I wonder what he could have been if not for constant injury, unlike Brouch he doesn't have the talent to make up for lost time.
Yeah, this looked ridiculous! For an average, overrated, fringe player to carry on like that was embarrassing.

How long before the club comes up with an imaginary injury for Tex to be demoted with dignity?

The run of lesser opponents coming up is surely his last roll of the dice.

Needed to win:
Mindset
Workrate
Skills

In that order

Atm we are lacking the first two, making the third harder

Ins for me
Greenwood
Gallucci
Maybe Stengle
Maybe Poholke

Jones stays in

Unfortunately I expect we will see minimal changes

Apparently we are a good team playing poorly rather than a poor team

Like others I criticized Hinkley when he said “We just need to play better for longer”. For years that covered up poor players and an average game plan

Now I’m hearing Pyke saying it. Not good enough

This is the reason we have co-captains now. Deep down, the club knows Tex is cooked. They know they will need to send him to the reserves eventually.

I haven't seen a good team for 2 years. The rest of the comp has improved 50% since then and we have gone backwards. I can assure you Don we are not a good team. Cut the bullshit. The jig is up mate. By the way he is also saying this to justify his policy of not playing youth. This man cannot develop a team. The fact he cant even sit on the boundary line speaks volumes.

Shouldnt be kept in because he does well on shit opponents. Dont think he will anyway by the way.

In your opinion what do you think it is right, his confidence or his body? Been completely missing since the 2017 finals series.

His body has aged quickly. He was never the same after his acl but with the absence of CC and now Gov combined with his lack of pace and lower leg issues he has been exposed. He was never quick but he is Ben Rutten slow now. The modern game is quick. Also feel the Grand Final effort and subsequent media shaming has crushed his spirit leading to no confidence. He knows he is in trouble and is playing accordingly.

Yeah I definitely agree, doesn't have any fast players to hide around anymore and no confidence is helping either. Not sure he can return to 2015-17 form again. Becoming a liability now which is sad to say

He's 32, it has very little to do with the players around him.... that's just what happens when you're that age and a slight frame.

Tex is 28
My mistake, thought we were on about Ed.

Tex might be 28 but he's carried injury since 2013. Has had the resilience to play through and play very well at times. But injury is catching up with him and he looks slow and unconvincing.

Still has some good footy in him no doubt, because he's a very talented footballer but these games will be fewer and fewer.

Given our extra runner against Geelong and how the coaches struggled to deal with it, the forced change I'd make is

Seed -> Davis

Otherwise, there is no obvious replacement for Kelly or Harto unless Fog/Otten lightup the sanfl... And this is no time to be Otten in a selection frame.

I'd look to build fitness in Gooch for another week or two before replacing Jones (pending form) or send a rocket up Gibbs for his insipid effort.

Davis missed his chance IMO.

It'll be a midfielder.

Worst game I've seen him play

I know teams are paying him more attention but the two killers were his flubbed kicks under absolutely zero pressure. One went along the ground FFS

Like a pro golfer topping one off the tee. It just doesn't happen

I posted the same thing last week about Laird, asked if he had an injury over xmas, his disposal is diabolical.

I still maintain we went over conservative with our hammies limiting the amount of kicking we did in the off season, our poor footskills is across the board - it has to be something.

Just watched the replay from Thursday night again and three of those fifties paid against us (walker one was def not a fifty) in the first really hurt us when u look at the overall match and margin . .

If we were serious about fixing the rot

Out: Seedsman (ACL), Gibbs, Walker, Kelly, Mackay, Lynch, Betts, Jenkins
In: Greenwood, Gallucci, Fogarty, Davis, Stengle, McHenry, Poholke, Himmelberg

Who we bring in doesn't even matter. We need to send a rocket up the ass of these complacent ****s

Kelly and Mackay out for good. Lynch and Jenkins out for a minimum of a month. Walker and Betts have to kick consecutive bags to get back in the side.
Scorpus denied in the SANFL thread that he had called for EIGHT changes. This must be the other Scorpus .

Perhaps whichever Scorpus wrote the post above should occasionally watch the SANFL team. Fogarty, Gallucci and Himmelberg has struggled in both SANFL matches. McHenry, Davis and Greenwood have had less touches than the average David Mackay match. Stengle offered less than Matty Wright last night.

The only players in our Twos who are putting their hands up are Poholke, Wilson and CEY but you don’t include Wilson and CEY in your EIGHT changes.

Can you answer a simple question Scorpus? Were you at the Bay last night? Did you watch the match? Perhaps the highlights?

Nup, just read the stats and away you go.......ll.l
