I got to the ground just after 10:00am and a practice match was in full swing. It lasted till about 10:30am before the boys headed back to the clubhouse and I'm guessing the training was cut short due to the heat (maybe?)
A full squad seemed to be on hand and I wish I had of been there at the start to really see who was MIA. It was those wizard orange tops vs black(or black and white tops). Some boys wore caps and quite often players swapped over tops(teams) so guessing which player it was sometimes was done by their running or kicking style. When I turned up Swannie was wearing No.14 and I thought WTF? lol.
Anyway, just before I got to the ground on the other side of the intersection was a bloke in shorts,t-shirt, thongs and a neck brace so I would presume it to be JA which is great news that he's up and about.
Reaching the ground the first players I saw were Goldsack and Didak a few metres from me. Didak was puffing and Goldsack asked "How did you go?". Didak's reply was "I'm F--KED!!" LOL. So .... I'm guessing he might have had a wee run on the ground?? If anyone else that went there can confirm this that would be great .... but I'm optimistic this maybe the case.
The practice match was full on running, competitive but as you would guess no heavy hits and certainly no knees on the back for marking contests. At my end Rocca v Wakes, Bucks v A new kid (sorry but I'm coming to terms with the new faces), Reid vs Lonie and lots of players swapped back and forth. Rocca looked Trim. Wakes called shots for defence. Reid presented and presented which was fantastic. Didn't really see him get a kick but he's giving people options.
Again it was hard spotting players but from what I could see MIA - Fraser, James, Broadie, Presti and Harry. Dawes was there but on the sidelines.
Players that stood out. Heath - full of run and owned the backline. Clarke - even kicked out at one stage and has a natural sportsman poise spotting a free man in the middle at another stage. Egan - played in the centre, has gained that strength to lay tackles AND palm people off when being tackled. Kicked a very nice goal after doing a few 1%ers. Leon put in. Davies finds the pill and put in. Johno, Swannie, Pends full of run too and making usual presence. Nice set shot goal by Pends. Dales - will be the envy of every club without question. Chipped a nice little pass to Nathan Brown who kicked a good goal about 40 metres. Big chest N Brown too.
For me the player that stood out the most by miles should bring a cheer or smile to people's faces. RHYCE SHAW!! FULL of run, spotted well, team player, hungry, followed up, encouraged ... just seemed to do everything right and really enjoying himself. It's either his birthday or he get a root the night before!
The last thought. There's one thing about these practice matches and that's when a goal is kicked, it's always a Collingwood goal!!
Any questions just ask or if you went to training please, please post your thoughts.
GO PIES!!!

he should theoretically be ready to be at least as good as '05. If he can be even better, then sweet!
