We lose whatever salary we were paying Jenkins and Betts, plus the deals for Tex and Sloane were front loaded. More than 70% of our squad are <5year kids.

If we are near our cap then Reid should be sacked.

I don't think we have the guts to match and force a trade. I also think our salary cap is still pretty tight (Tex, Sloane, Talia on serious coin, Laird, Lynch, Matt, Smith, Brown, Milera and Seedsman on pretty good wickets and still paying for Gibbs), which is part of the reason we are happy for Brad to leave.

The salary cap is a great deal healthier at the end of next year. There's also a lot of free agents end of next year as well. MCrouch, Smith, Lynch, Talia, Laird, Kelly. I am not sure if Smith would be in the top 25% of players paid at the club. I presume he is and would be a restricted free agent but possibly his knee injury means he may not be. If he is a UFA I wouldn't be surprised if they traded him this year.

Either we’re getting pick 2 and an average Saints player (eg Dunstan) for sweet FA, or we’re getting 15 and one of their good young players. The former is extremely likely, IMO

There are absolutely rules against it.

Each trade must be balanced when looked at in isolation.

So either we give what those players are perceived by the VFL as worth or they won't allow the trade.

So if we give up a second rounder just to take the St Kilda salary cap dump we're getting well and truly shafted.

Yeah there is.

The contracts we give to those players have to be legit. If we are over paying spuds to boost a contract offer to Crouch and improve our compo they would be all over it. They aren't stupid when they want to be.
