Us matching late will also pressure the AFL into a corner too?
Leaves Saints no time to deal and Brad has to accept our offer?

How many other times have Clubs drawn out this process?

Seriously there should be no hesitation with matching now! He has said he wants to get to the Saints. We match and force a trade for a better deal knowing the both want each other. It’s actually a no brainer
Yeah, the only reason to not match is if the 2 clubs are talking and they feel the compo pick has enough worth be part of trades.

Is it legal for two teams to have two seperate deals in the same year?
I don't see how this can happen, we either take the compo pick or we don't.

The only way we can get better is by matching which makes the compo pick null and void

Matching is the only way we can get players/sweeteners legally....and then we if the Saints walk away we're committed to the same deal Brad's management have secured at the Saints

I think we really don't want him at the club, know that we'll be out of the 8 for most of his contract and there is little point continuing with him at this stage only to have to replace him as we enter our next window.

We should be looking to build a group with potential to go through a successful 5 year era together and Brad's unlikely to be a part of much of that, yes we'll need older players during this time and not everyone can be under 24 when we get there, but we probably shouldn't be investing heavily in players that wont.

We poorly played the game for pick 2, it didn't happen, and the AFL could have made it happen if they wanted to, covid-19/unknown list sizes/cap discount or whatever.

Saints have what is it pick 15? Compensation pick is 23? I'm not sure you commit to a player you don't want, for 5 years at $750,000-$800,000, if the reports about easy triggers are true, for a player to only play a maximum of 22 games per year (finals unlikely, I think 23 if we are lucky in a couple of years time) and going on past history, only 3/4 of that anyway because of pride and an 8 pick slide.

Over the next couple of years we are going to collect some top tier young talent and will need a stack of money to keep other clubs away.

But I'm also not sure how the club can sell the loss to supporters so we'll see what choice they make here.

Can we play poker together please.

Amateur hour once again
No it isn’t, the club only has to deal with his manager and the Saints, Brad was on a holiday while the Saints lodged their offer to the AFL. It just makes it clear that the club don’t want him back regardless, otherwise they would’ve gone to the effort of keeping in contact. They owe Brad nothing now.

“I’ve told St Kilda I’m fully committed to them, so I want to see that out,” Crouch told reporters at Adelaide Airport.

“At this stage I just want to be at St Kilda and the decision I’ve made (is) I’m fully committed to them.”

Well then Brad, go and speak to your St.Kilda friends and tell them to put a decent trade deal on the table coz the Crows are going to match the FA offer and they won't be wilting on the trade deal either.

sorry to reply to yours in particular, but that is where tomorrow comes into play - they could do a trade first, for an example (just for the purposes of demonstration), St Kilda trade 2021 1st for the Atkins compo and crows 2021 2nd. The crows declare they are not matching and Brad goes to the saints who get 2 x 2nd rounders for their 2021 1st and we get the band 3 compo pick and a 2021 1st.

For the love of god, if we can't manufacture such a scenario or similar then what the hell are our trade team being employed for

So you're suggesting deals outside the compensation pick?

Correct.

We get the compensation pick, maybe get a Saints player for a backend pick, then maybe another backend pick upgrades our Pick 22 to 17 or something.

AFL would be fine with it, to get the player to their destination.

I they can sign off on GC coughing up Pick 11 for Pick 27 rom Geelong then anything is possible, really, so nothing will surprise me tomorrow.

Yeah but they don't have to organise a trade

They wont have to organise a trade if they got him as a free agent either.

So if they were willing to pay him more money, they would have offered in for free agency.
No trade. No drafting.

I can already imagine how it will play out on FiveAA

Rowie - I was hoping for Pick 2 Adam
Adam Kelly - We were too Rowie, we actually thought the deal was going to be enough to get it over the line.
Bicks - Did the club look at matching?
Kelly - We considered that, but Brad has reached a stage where he wanted a new start so we decided to just take the compensation and move on with trade week.
Rowie - I'm still disappointed we didn't end up with Pick 2
Bicks - Adam, I'm guessing the club weighed up the value of trading for St Kilda's pick versus the compensation offered and made the decision that it wasn't worth going through a lengthy trade negotiation with St Kilda.
Kelly - That's exactly right Mark, St Kilda were reluctant to trade so the club decided that we'd be better off taking the compensation and hit the ground running looking to bundle that pick to try and improve our draft hand.
Rowie - So what you're saying to disappointed Crows fans, like myself, is to stop being sooky lalas because the club is looking to bundle picks up to get a high first round pick

That's very good, I even "heard" it in their voices.

You should send that through to them now.

It makes more sense that we are doing that than we just haven’t done anything for 48 hours because we can’t decide.

I do strongly believe that in a professional sport, we should be able to match and then shop the deal around to any club who will take it. Free agency should mean free trade.

Media fix has started on AA.

Rowe is sticking with have to match, but saying the fans want him gone and happy with 23
The club treats Rowie with the same respect this board does, none. Just yesterday he was saying is ‘definitely happy to stay if it comes to that’.

Rendell saying 4@600 with massive triggers hence no band 1.

Not matching at 600 is disgraceful
If the Saints put forward a contract big enough to get band one compo, but it didn’t because it’s not all guaranteed, then both clubs are incredibly incompetent.
all 3 parties could have won if it was played better.
