He's claiming Saints offer was only $600K plus triggers & says Crows must match at $600K - he along with almost everyone here thinks BC is worth more than Pick 23
He was pretty strong about it too. He just backed up that a good manager would have triggered band 2.

Said Crows gave heaps of options and must match

The system is broke if the contract is 600 plus 200 per year trigger extra. Those "triggers" should be included in the free agency conversion. Because its essentially saying it is an 800k contract over 5 years.

How is that fair for the club that is losing him? Only party that loses in that scenario is the club that is losing the player.

As if there is a single fan that wants to see Brad Crouch leave for pick 23.

That person does not exist
I’ve only had time to be popping in and out of BF, so I can’t gauge what BF posters are expecting, but 23 is shit. I want the club to grow a set and match.

Nicks has a strong philosophy around recent premiership sides build strong connections with each other and change the way they play and prepare for the team....

Richmond are a great model of this philosophy, Cotchin mentored Martin and even Cotchin himself remodelled his own game for the team.

What we started to see towards the end of the year was a closer knit team, Smith has been mentoring Scholl, Brown the same with Hamill, Talia wirh Fish, Sloane with Keays

Brad althougb he probably does live the club does march to the beat if his own drum, this hasnt gone unnoticed

Yes, I believe Brad was gone at midseason, it was never all about pick 2 (that was a bonus) it more about what Nicks wants to create

You cant have senior players not on board

What is Nicks' experience in the philosophy of recent premiership sides? Picks up a lot from the TV does he?

He also said Binuk had left the club and was adamant last week that the deal was definitely 800-850k per season and would trigger band 1. Also, the club can’t just match the base contract, they have to match the triggers as well. Triggers only don’t get included in compo calculations.

That part is effing ridiculous.

There is not a single person here, or anywhere, who supports the Crows and wants us to accept pick 23

Us matching late will also pressure the AFL into a corner too?
Leaves Saints no time to deal and Brad has to accept our offer?

How many other times have Clubs drawn out this process?
Not really, it will just roll straight into the trade period then

If they are easy to reach then why didn’t they make the contract 800 without triggers, and they would already have him. Makes no sense.
Becauae clubs can manipulate triggers

The risk for Brad is although they might be soft triggers in 4 years time at the Ge of 29 or 30, if St Kilda are in a different list phase and despite his form they just wont select him in order to avoid an automatic extension

Brad and his Manager are carrying all the risk

If the Saints put forward a contract big enough to get band one compo, but it didn’t because it’s not all guaranteed, then both clubs are incredibly incompetent.
all 3 parties could have won if it was played better.
That's what Rendell just said, but put it on Crouch's manager. Said a good manager wouldn't have accepted that deal

As stated above though and something Rendell doesn’t appear aware of, we have to match triggers as well. It isn’t just 600k and that’s it.
What don't you get?

He has to perform at a top level and there's also likely a games played trigger to get above the $600K.

I think we really don't want him at the club, know that we'll be out of the 8 for most of his contract and there is little point continuing with him at this stage only to have to replace him as we enter our next window.

We should be looking to build a group with potential to go through a successful 5 year era together and Brad's unlikely to be a part of much of that, yes we'll need older players during this time and not everyone can be under 24 when we get there, but we probably shouldn't be investing heavily in players that wont.

We poorly played the game for pick 2, it didn't happen, and the AFL could have made it happen if they wanted to, covid-19/unknown list sizes/cap discount or whatever.

Saints have what is it pick 15? Compensation pick is 23? I'm not sure you commit to a player you don't want, for 5 years at $750,000-$800,000, if the reports about easy triggers are true, for a player to only play a maximum of 22 games per year (finals unlikely, I think 23 if we are lucky in a couple of years time) and going on past history, only 3/4 of that anyway because of pride and an 8 pick slide.

Over the next couple of years we are going to collect some top tier young talent and will need a stack of money to keep other clubs away.

But I'm also not sure how the club can sell the loss to supporters so we'll see what choice they make here.
The $150-200k extra from triggers is the part that bothers me, and I'm sure the crows. Its enough of a difference to jump up to maximum compo, I'm not sure what the saints are playing at. That's if the rumoured contract details are correct.

This. I would argue they should be included in any compo pick calculation. These could be easy triggers too so very unfair for us.
