Crows vs. West Coast, Friday Night in Alice Springs - Great test for the boys

Can Craigy find a structure that works on the Eagles? I feel we've got the mix to beat them, we just need to sustain it for a full match. Last year's prelim was going to plan until Biglands went down imo, that left Clarkey by himself in the ruck and from there it was all down hill. I believe I read somewhere that Judd, Cousins and Kerr are all in this week? If so, it'll be tough.

Will we win? It'd be great for the boys psychologically.

It will not mean a thing and who care if we win or lose as long as we continue to follow the pre season plan?

Remember it was the pre season in 2004 (could have been 2005); we had a trial game against the WCE on the Friday night at AAMI stadium and beat the living suitcase out of them by 90 odd points. It didn't really change anything.

Continue to follow the pre season plan and play the kids in match like condition and bulid up to round 1.

I dont think we would really be able to go too much into it though, even if we win, theyre still going to be our bogey side.

Pre-season games mean nothing.

How many points do we get if we win this?

We could come out and win by 100 and it won't mean diddly. West Coast will have a stronger side.. i mean even Essendon belted them last week, that doesn't mean they aren't still my flag favourite.. but it is just another chance for us to get gametime in our boys.

Edited for accuracy.

Re: Crows vs. West Coast, Friday 9th March, Alice Springs - Great test for the boys

5AA is covering the game live, if anyone knows what time it starts locally that'd be great.

Just mentioned on 5AA that they intend to go to the Crows/West Coast game at the half time of the Port/whoever(who cares) match.

What ever time that is as I missed it.

It'll be interesting to see how this game goes. Rotation through the eagles team should see a few of the more elite players coming back in. However as the game is being played in Alice Springs I wouldnt expect anyone from the Eagles who had the slightest of injury worries to be considered

Should be a good game, where is it being played in Alice Springs and what sort of condition is the ground etc????

Im off Friday and Saturday wonder if I could make it up there:cool:

Will the club seek to experiment with young players and team placements as per Melbourne game OR start to settle the side down in readiness for the season opener.

I'd suggest we'll have one more game of experimentation particularly the opportunity to get the younger players used to a travel routine ....but also the conditions will be so different than normal and it'll be interesting how the young players adapt to conditions & travel.

I would expect as in the NAB that teams would be starting to prepare round 1 squads. I would expect both Adelaide and WC to have at least 75% of their round 1 squad in the team...minor niggles notwithstanding

It would have been nice if the crows game get preference due to the fact that most SA club supporters can get down to AAMI stadium to see the game but I doubt most of us will be able to go all the way to Alice Springs. But neverless I am happy to hear any coverage at all.

KG and Cornes were talking about how the stream during the NAB cup challenge couldn't be heard on the 5aa website and neither the AFL official website due to no link. They said they will know tomorrow whether practice matches can be streamed directly of the radio stations website. That still doesn't explain why I couldn't access a radio stream of the flash match day coverage on the official AFL website during the Port game on the weekend.

As far as Friday night game is concerned, that would be the last thing on Craig's mind.

West Coast will be experimenting just as much as we will so NOTHING can be drawn from the results. It will be yet another hitout where you give some players much needed game time and give youngsters an opportunity to get the taste of what is required from them.

I am pretty confident in saying that there would be very little planning, if any, in terms of studying the opposition and coming up with a way to beat them. This will be about us doing our own thing and possibly trying to perfect some set plays and giving youngsters some game time.

As far as the result goes, I am sure both sides wouldn't give a rats tossbag who wins and who loses.

Not sure about Sellar but I'd be surprised if Tippett didn't get another run against quality opposition. :thumbsu:

Agreed Tippett will be given another go ...just have to get footy minutes into him ....Sellar I doubt.

It sounds like a couple of experienced players like Perrie, Johncock and McGregor are looking for a run which would squeeze Sellar out.

But we can play as many as we like.

I dont see any reason as to why Sellar wouldn't play.

Just an opinion ...but last week was about exposing as many players as possible to AFL like conditions.

This week Iam guessing they want to start putting more game minutes into some of the players, particularly those like Johncock, Burton, Tippett, McGregor, Goodwin, Vince, and Stevens who have had limited preparations and would be classed as pretty underdone.

The following week I'd suggest they would want to start settling on the final 22

Just to echo what the majority of people have said, the result means nothing, or very little. Id be giving the young fellas a lot of game time because while the Coasters wont be flat out, the Jailbirds will still be far tougher opponents than most of the kids have seen so far. Should be a good game though all the same.

I assume the game is at Traeger Park which is the main ground in Alice. Fantastic venue, good lights. The one patch of green in an otherwise red city. It's in a major sporting complex with a pool, baseball field, gymnasium, basketball courts etc. Does have a turf wicket though which can sometimes create a few problems.

Ahh okay Im sure cricket finished a awhile ago though so hopefully it isnt too hard, might have to get Tony Greig up there with his trusty key in hand:p
