Geary and Paton are really out only two good lock down small defenders capable of stopping the dominant smalls.

Awful for Paton. Something tells me Long is going to get that role and we'll be playing Sincs and Clark mainly off HB.

Sav delisting starting to look like a bad decision in 20/20 hindsight.

Yeh dont agree. He doesnt need to go knees out if someone is backing into a pack either.

Hes a coach, coach.

To clarify (and yes im quoting myself) im only saying this if as reported here he monstered Pats in the tackle, if hes just laid a standard tackle and its a freak accident so be it.

If he tried to kill him in the tackle he shouldnt, as hes a coach and should be coaching.

I understand the frustration, but it's not really as simple as stick to coaching, when he has to play in match sim. It sucks, but it's not Roughead's fault.

Im not saying it is, in fact even if he went 110% at Patto its still an accident, but there is no need for him to go 100%. How is he coaching and directing if hes focused solely on playing?

Theres absolutely an art form and hes a fresh coach but he should be limiting risk to the players as well.

there’s no positives in having injuries to key players but the truth is we’ve depth, not bad but really good depth.

Webster > Paton. some of you have forgotten how good Web is.

I think Ryder can cover Marshall for the first month or so. Ryder is more suitable in the middle, and the combination of Battle, Membrey and King is lethal upfront.

Jones is expendable imo, we’ve others who can cover him.

it’s good that we’ve these injuries now than later tbh.

Ingame, you get like 60 tackles on average. They all ain’t soft tackles, it was just misfortune and it’s very unlucky. There’s no one to blame here, if he isn’t going 100% he’s setting the wrong example.

Agree totally. Injuries happen, people are carrying on like Roughy tried to maim him. One person on here saw the tackle. It is not netball, it is a contact sport and the name of the game is MATCH SIMULATION.

This really sucks for Paton as a terrific young player and the playing list as a whole but cool your jets on this woe is me stuff.

INJURIES HAPPEN. Jones probably back R1, Marshall covered for a round or two by McKernan as second tp Paddy, we have depth in the backs with Highmore, Webster, DMAC, even Battle swinging back, Clark can go off the back flank etc.

Sounds like GWS are in just as much trouble.

This, felt like we were flying and now weve been absolutely crushed.

Yep, all my hopes for this year have been crushed. I know there’s a long way to go but injuries to RoMa, Zak and Paton have significantly lowered my expectation- I’m guessing Jones could be back for round 1 or very early given the lower severity of his injury, and hopefully RoMa is back within the first 6 weeks of the season but who knows with this type of injury, and Paton looks done for the year if it is a broken leg. Technically speaking, obviously it could be worse with the first two a chance to make an impact relatively early, but when you have a run of luck over the course of a few days like this it’s hard not to imagine us having more troubles before the season start.

We’ve gone on and on about our depth, so now is the time to show it. I loved Jimmy Webster a few years ago, he can do the work on oppo small forwards and if he’s fit (has anyone seen him doing well at training?) then it’s not the worst replacement in the world. He’s a proven player who we know can play at the level, so I hope we’ve got his body right because it looks like we’ll need him now.

McKernan in for RoMa. Big loss there but if McKernan can have a serviceable 6-8 week period while RoMa gets some conditioning it could keep us going alright. Also have some options with guys like Carlisle to play in that role if we play Doug and Frawley as the two KPDs.

Zak just seems like he’s bound to get at least one 3-4 week hammy a year at this stage- we really need to look into a new specialist for him to find out exactly what’s going on and if there’s even any hope in fixing that or if he will always have a susceptibility to it. The addition of Crouch over the off season help and Gresham fit and ready to go helps minimise the loss of this one, and he should be ready to go by the start of the season anyway.

When we look at the latest 3 injuries in isolation, I think our list has decent replacements for each individually, where the loss can potentially be minimal. But when you put them all together it’s very concerning and the drop off will start to add up.

I’m hoping Zak gets a good week or two in or training before round 1 and RoMa gets back on his feet at around the start of the season with the aim to have him match fit by round 6 or so. No idea how to figure out stress related injuries though, but by the sounds of it they caught it early and he wasn’t experiencing any pain so hopefully it’s a good sign for an early return.

Is the next 30 days with no injuries too much to ask?

Absolutely shattered for Paton, really hope this wont impact him long term as he looked an absolute beauty.

Focus should be 100% on his long-term recovery, don't want to see any shortcuts taken just because we might see ourselves as finals contenders.

Gives an opportunity for Webster or Highmore to have a really good look at senior footy this year.
