Geez, you have alot more faith in Nicksy than I do.

McAdam Walker Murphy
McHenry Fogarty Himmelburg

Himmelburg moves in front of Thilthorpe off the back of a couple of great pre-season games. RT will have to bide his time in the reserves.

Rankine and Rachele need to work on their forward pressure acts, will be hard to unseat Murphy and McHenry who are outstanding on the training track.
Murphy and McHenry are outstanding at not kicking goals as well.

I’m going early on Pedlar like I did Worrell.

I’ve seen enough now that he will far exceed Taylor a midfielder. And I like Taylor.
I dont know..

I like Pedlar and definitely still dont think he’s had a fair enough run at it to make a full judgement on him yet..

But I have Taylor in front of him at the moment.

Mainly due to Taylor actually having full 4 quarters of influence on games..

Pedlar goes MIA too much still.

Hopefully both improve further with another preseason under Burgess.

So we must have got really screwed over on the contracted Charlie Cameron trade at pick 12 who is a better player btw.

Regardless of what people think reality is what the original club paid for the player in question plays a part in the price - particularly for a young player. Cameron was a rookie, Rankine a pick 3. It plays a part

Yeah **** GC. They screwed us out of Anderson so he could hold Rowell's hand up there.

Look at it this way - if we had Anderson, we would probably be spending the Rankine money on keeping him instead. Swings and roundabouts...

Rankine is overrated….

Too easy to take out of the game with a hard nosed defender like Starcevich or Hardwick. He loses focus against these types of players.

Always injured due to lack of hard work, isn’t totally committed to AFL footy like the elite players.

The small guys you have already are super impressive, hard at the footy types. Going to be tough to have them in the 2’s behind Rankine.

This was last year's Pre-Season Draft participants ......two !

Many in the media are now saying, the PSD is redundant

View attachment 1488177

After list lodgements and finalisation of Player Contracts .....how many clubs have $850K next year to fit in a Rankine in the PSD ?

Most clubs are now taking cheap players .....cheap mature players or a Rookie

North now rumoured to be looking into Brad Hill - that’s 900k off their salary cap

A third round pick it is then.

We should trade McHenry and Murphy for Rankine then....
And he played 18 games out of 22 in the last 2 seasons.

No point in having a turbo forward setup without any decent service

Will be interesting to see how we approach things
Having a couple of good small forwards in Rankine and Rachele will be really handy, though. The sh*t delivery to our forwards means there won't be a lot of marks taken up there, so best case is a lot of ball hitting the deck which provides opportunities for these guys. Worst case is just a whole lot of intercept marks and we've wasted at least 4 years worth of 1st round picks assembling a gun forward line that we can't deliver the ball to :p

I can only assume that we see a lot of "organic growth" in our existing young mids (Berry, Schoenberg, Taylor, Pedlar, Nankervis etc). Hopefully we can find somebody to fill the gap at half back allowing Dawson to move up onto the wing, then we'll have at least one player who can hit the side of a barn delivering the ball into forward 50.

I disagree on that one. Many players such as Dawson may not have developed as quickly during underage football and looking at how good he is now he obviously should have gone as a top 3 pick. I think top 10 picks are overrated and a player is just as likely to have a good career at pick 25. Picking players at such a young age is a stab in the dark and basically a lottery. That's why so many top 10 picks such as McAsey fail. Once a player is on a list draft pick number is irrelevant imo.

Of course he’s overrated, that’s a given. But overrated is not the same as not rated.

Unpopular opinion, I don't like this*

*provided we're forced to give up pick 5.

Rankine was pick 3 in a pretty shallow draft, and on what we've seen since, I'd have Walsh, King, King, Rozee, Bailey Smith, Butters, Rowbottom ahead of him, and can probably throw him in a basket with Luko, McInerney, Quaynor, Blakey, Atkins, Wilkie and Caldwell in that next group (flaky but talented or low upside but effective). Probably goes 7-16 in a redraft. If he was in the previous year's draft, there's probably 13 in that group ahead of him and 15 in the 'similar ish' group. 4 years less of his career, out of contract.

Sure, there's upside. But in 4 years, it's been flashes. Hard to expect him to just all of a sudden become consistent - especially with stacks of guaranteed money ahead of him long term.

Seems a 'cream on top' player in a position we're (relative to other parts of our list) already competitive in. And the mids that'll be available at pick 5 suit us pretty well - dynamic/clean types. I'd be happier digging into the future first and back the list's upside to make that pick 7/8/9 and a year down the line.
