Link to the proposed Referendum, from the Referendum Working Group:
(Edited 6 April 2023)

These are the words that will be put to the Australian people in the upcoming referendum as agreed by the Referendum Working Group (made up of representatives of First Nations communities from around Australia):

"A Proposed Law: to alter the Constitution to recognise the First Peoples of Australia by establishing an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice. Do you approve this proposed alteration?"

As well as that, it will be put to Australians that the constitution be amended to include a new chapter titled "Recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples".

The details would be:

The Prime Minister has committed to the government introducing legislation with this wording to parliament on 30 March 2023 and to establishing a joint parliamentary committee to consider it and receive submissions on the wording, providing ALL members of Parliament with the opportunity to consider and debate the full details of the proposal.

Parliament will then vote on the wording in June in the lead up to a National Referendum.

The ANU has issued a paper responding to common public concerns expressed in relation to the proposed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice here:

Summary details of the key points from this paper may be found in Chief post here:
The Uluru Statement from the Heart:
Not specifically No. In any case it does not form part of the Referendum proposal.

Seeing as things have gotten a bit toxic in here, let's try to return things to a more civil tone.

The following will result in warnings to begin with, and if said behaviour continues will be escalated:
  • referring to another poster as racist without direct provocation.
  • dismissing or deriding another poster's lived experience.
  • personal attacks or one line posts designed solely to insult or deride.

You might notice that the final rule is from the board rules. Thought we should probably remember that this is against the rules in case it's been forgotten.

Let's play nicely from here, people.

She was at ground level for years.
Why do you support and listen to her.

But not any of the other Indigenous people who have the opposite opinion to her?

Does it have anything to do with the fact, that she's saying things that you already thought/believed, before she said them?
As in, she supports your position, so you feel she is more credible than those who oppose your position?

This anti Voice stance is all part of her political shtick as a hard-line, conservative woman, and this campaign has been her coming out party.
price is following the Qooker playbook word for word (and in this case .... cause for cause)

The poster was responding to an another poster who mentioned ID. It’s really that simple.
And nobody is ever asked to show their ID at an election.
Sometimes people hand their licence over if there is confusion etc - my observation is that’s generally voluntary- when there is a language issue for instance.

The post was using ID... To help spell the name...

'Just stating facts'...

Did you know, the AEC only gives out pencils when you vote??
Did you know, that pencil can be erased???

Just stating facts!...
Which I think was misconstrued by the poster who responded.

Not quite sure this quite is the gotcha you imagine it to be.

I know mate. I think this was simply a misunderstanding that another poster is trying to make a meal out of.

We've discussed it in our office of 7, we have three Yes, one undecided, one won't say and two Nos, i suspect it's 4-3 in favour of No.

And to your last point I think the ALP have bowled a half volley to the Libs with their "bungled marketing", very easy to toss a few stones and confuse people
I work for the state government and no one in the office wants to discuss this, at all.

Is this some anti-AEC conspiracy now?

Latest disinformation attack?

We were.asked if we were eligible to vote early, our address and whether or not we'd already voted. I was actually a bit disappointed, I have one of the trial licences in Ballarat on my phone, I had it on the screen ready to go and my wife had her in her hand, but.

In classic coalition fashion Price will be shuffled to the back of the room once the referendum is over and then at the next election she will be internally voted off her senate ticket and replaced by a rich white man.
Nah her stocks will rise, and they’ll be keen to keep her front and centre. I mean, who else is there?

Maybe they do, when you aren't in ;)
Touche.

Its mildly amusing, no one really talks politics in the office in gov. I suspect everyone is too concerned with hanging shit on the bosses.

Happens a little bit at drinks etc. but drinks are rare cause you have to pay for everything yourself.

Chief isn't there meant to be a blackout of YES/NO ads between now and Saturday?

Or does that only apply to traditional media?
Ads these days run on a massive exchange that puts each impression up for auction. Buyers give their wants and prices, the system matches them with a supplier page in milliseconds.

Each ad should have a little X on the top right or left which people can click if they find them inappropriate.

I am guessing that online ads don't count for an election blackout. I can't recall what has happened in the past.

My team have discussed back in July, at an informal catch up.
Amazing understanding and interest in Indigenous Culture and history.

All were horrified that we even need to do this at all.
All said they were voting yes, from ED down.

I was the only Indigenous person there.
At that time, I said it wont get up.They were shocked.

I said the politics of fear will kick in and the race hate will start.

They all said wtf, no way.

I was correct.

We live this every day, we had hoped for change, but we new, people look at us differently, they dont care.

Reality is most of us white folks havent had the constant disappointment of having our needs and wants overlooked and dismissed.

I was pretty optimistic too at the start. Its bitterly disappointing to me, i couldnt imagine what its like for you.

That's the smart play, particularly if in the govt space I'd say. I'm a bit more ok with discussing it because I'm a yes voter, if I was voting no I wouldn't be talking about it.

I don't think I've ever worked with anybody that's boring enough to discuss politics thank christ.

I had little to no interest in politics but I started working for a global company a while back. Seemed that every conference would have people from OS asking about our politics, was a conservative or liberal government in etc. Plus since we sold a lot to government we had to be aware of this stuff as well.

Sometimes I think it would be better if I'd never taken an interest.
