Struggling to name one player who I think is better now than they were 1,2,3 or 4 years ago, perhaps TDK but I don't see Voss as being responsible for that,

I think we have quite a few players who have improved and played their best footy under Voss. Newman an obvious example.
The problem (the biggest at least) isn't on an individual level, it's on a team level.

i really struggle to see it - if we do, the industry will lay into us. our list simply isn't good enough to be sacking our coach after 1 really poor year.

he's contracted for next year, imo they'll leave him there, get him a senior figure to help & refresh the assistants.

unless there's a player mutiny, scandal or a review finds astoundingly poor results, i can't see them sacking him.

But that is exactly what we need. We are soo poor at disposal, thats why we are perceived as slow.

That's list management. You can only improve a player's ability marginally.

I think Bolton was actually decent. The problem was he didn't have enough support after Craig left, and then went completely off the rails after 2018.
Teague was terrible, so between the 2 of them we completely wasted 3 years of development (2019-21).

Poor was probably harsh. I meant that none of the three were the complete package as head coaches. IMO Bolton and Voss were positive appointments given the circumstances. Teague was the only genuine own goal.

He was there for the pies exodus and was a big part of hawthorn during their sucess

Pretty sure Wright made significant change at Collingwood when their salary cap was cooked.
We are not progressing, so l don't see a acceptance of this, whilst we still have the core of a decent side, we need to be proactive and address our list management & coaching.
Opposition teams are continuing to evolve we are not.

Newman, IMO has always been a consistent performer and any improvement in his football over the last 3 seasons is marginal and, again MO, more a result of him maturing and getting smarter as he matures.

interesting that he, until injury, has been one of the whipping boys on hereas well, lots of people regularly calling for his axing.

Yes you can probably name others that have improved but is that the result of coaching or the maturity factor.

Reckon I could name more that have gone backwards aver the last 3 years, could start with Cerra, Williams, Walsh, Motlop and Saad. Not saying that's all on Voss but they are currently not the players we expected them to be.

What would your case for maintaining him, if we are stagnant and the game plan is so predictable, we play a taxing brand of footy which is not sustainable.

Other clubs have moved to a very different style to us, we are still playing the style of 3 years ago.

If you have to keep the head coach away from strategy and tactics what reason is there to keep him around?

I see a lot who believe that Voss is a great motivator but, honestly, I see no evidence of this when I watch us play.

I've said before that I believe that he is a big chance of ruining what should be a very good list. Sadly I suspect that may have already happened. I think his 2023 was a significant improvement on what he had shown previously (had never been top 10 in a B&F), and he backed it up last year.

Had a pretty good first season with us in 2019 (incl, a BOG against his old club in an upset in Sydney) then missed all but 2 games in 2020 through injury and played only 14 in 2021. Yes better player now but probably could have been expected.

To all supporters. Do not think replacing Voss solves our problem..Yes he is a carcass blowing in the breeze but we just replace one piece of meat with another. Until the entire club,including supporters embrace systemic change across the whole organisation: board, recruiting, football department we will not be successful. We tried.to.do this.2015 but did not really stay the course..The starting point is to gather around the right potential president who needs to change the constitution to reinstate board or partial board elections. The current system sustains mediocre leadership. If you think the board does not influence.onfield leadership, then who holds the onfield departments.to.account when they produce the current level of performance. Don't get sucked in by a run of wins, the organisation needs total change to break the cycle of mediocrity

Voss may be safe at the moment, but there are certainly scenarios where his job becomes threatened. If our form line of the last 12 games continues, we are probably a bottom four team. We may not even beat North Melbourne. We already lost to Richmond. West Coast seem to be very bad, so maybe we beat them. Every other game we would start as underdogs.

Say we snatch a few wins and perform somewhat. Do we finish with 7 wins? 8? Less than 7 would be an unmitigated disaster. I don't see how Voss keeps his job in that case. I'd say 6 wins is the cut off point. He needs to have 7 at least to keep his job. But at 7 wins, the supported base will be extremely angry. The club would be under pressure to fire him.

Luke Hodge raised the concerns about our ball use a couple years back... I know its been blatantly obvious to most of us anyway, but tend to think we need to bring in someone like him who won't be afraid to tell it like it is...

Voss clearly has peeled back on this front. Last year when we lost to Geelong who were top of the ladder and undefeated at the time Voss said that performance was unacceptable...

So if that was unacceptable what the hell is going on to start the season?

What is the next great system? Thats the thing we have to work out.

After the Clarkson dynasty his former assistants (Bevo, Hardwick, Simpson) won the next five flags.
Now we’re seeing former Hardwick assistants (Macrae, Kingsley) doing well.
So who is the next game changer. Is it Mitchell at Hawthorn and is there someone who has learnt from him long enough to implement his style somewhere else? Too early to tell. Someone that has been learning under Longmire or Chris Scott and is ready to take a team forward in their own.

I don’t believe our system holds up often enough. Too easy for coaches to pick an area of the ground to outnumber us and force turnovers.

Take away that Hawthorn result and it shows we're not that far away. I just don't have faith in the structures or the way we continually bomb the ball inside our 50.

Recon the Ratts Mitchell philosophy meshes really well, both very similar players and see the game alike. I don't think we have that at the Blues

It is obvious as a club we do not understand modern football. Our continued inability in picking coaches who get found after a year a two means it doesn't matter if we get rid of Voss, we will make the same mistake again.

We are stuck between a rock and a hard place.
