Mullin could very well go into the midfield if he now realizes he's just as powerful as any of the best mids in the game right now. We could do with someone who can bulldoze their way through congestion
I'd like to see him on the wing

At least Stengle and Cameron were able to nicely replicate their disappearing act of the 2024 prelim (yes I know Cameron started well that time unlike here). These are two All Australian level forwards that are not offering enough in crunch games since the 2022 finals series. There are obviously other issues, but this is one area I'm putting the microscope on. Our elite forward line should be a destructive POD every single game and especially in close contests. They are underdelivering when it matters.

I'm not sure what our competative advantage is this year. You need at least one to leverage.

Running power is a massive issue. The way we structure really hurts it. To make things worse unless we can hold the game to completely negative, we're uncompetative at the comtest, we're suffering from a massive talent deficit.

We can't play our forward stuture with our midfield, we're using 4 players to get the value of 2.5. Which is why we were out numbered everywhere
Elaborate on the 4 to 2.5 comment please

I'd hate to see us drop Clohesy and Clark after one poor showing. Just like if COS or Mullin struggle next week we shouldn't immediately turf them.

They all need games to improve and we need them to improve to be any chance later in the season.

I'd prefer to rotate out a Bowes or O'Connor where we know what they offer and they're not likely to suddenly get heaps better. If they're our best option later in the year we can always go back to them.

Under pressure the Cats were lacking composure for most of the night in congestion at ground level I lost count of the number of time the speculative blind knock on,kick off the ground or handball went directly to the Lions advantage same can be said for hacked kicks out of the back line this is an area we can work on and improve.

Last week half the board was calling him to be dropped, I don’t think a promotion to the middle is the answer yet

I know half the board were gunning for him but the way in which he was throwing himself at the contest is something that has been missing all along. Something clicked for him tonight. Was if he knew he was on thin ice and just went out and gave his all.
I think he did well when he played as a run-with-tagger at times last year so he isn't new to the midfield. I reckon he would be a better option than Stevens myself.

Half? I reckon 98% were wanting him dropped and the other 2% are like me and impulsively like to go against the crowd.

Haha I'm one of the 2% but I actually think he's decent. We need big bodies and he's built and quick, it's a perfect combination.

Huge elephant in the room and I'm glad you're bringing it to attention. Cameron has largely been a downhill skier for the last three years and gets away with his disappearing acts. Some of his performances have simply been atrocious for someone of his calibre but he's not held to the same standard as the elite. Most Jekyll and Hyde player I've ever seen who is in danger of becoming a complete flat track bully. Loves padding his stats when the game is largely over. He was amazing in 2022 but he has been an incredibly frustrating player for some time now.

I think Stewart needs to educate some of the boys on how to stay on the ball where they can until a better leadup/forward option presents - too many unnecessarily rushed, errant +30m kicks seemed to go into F50 too quickly to the wrong option or to a position of disadvantage for our mids/smalls (which fed into Brisbane's intercepting strengths).

As much as Mullin is criticised, he does appear to have significantly improved by way of playing to his strengths with ball in hand - really hopeful.

Mannagh models an intensity, desperation and drive we really need around the contests and in the forward line - need him to come in next week to spark Close and Stengle into gear.

Not buying the Neale injury at all, he looked to be moving fine. Just think it was a tough night for forwards and was little off against some good defenders.

At the ground, most of the night he had a second player blocking his path. Whose player was it? Stuff knows. Though in 2 occasions in the third that took notice it was Cameron’s. Yet, Cameron was 20m away.

Unacceptable that.

Yeah, they are the reigning premiers, but 26 up at half time in those conditions, with the game on our terms, to throw it away in one quarter is just not good enough.

We're almost a month into the season and we've conceded runs big runs of goals in every game. It's becoming a trend, and one not unfamiliar to us - stopping momentum.

Yep, the modern game is like that, but once our effort falls away, a game comes apart without much resistance.

Our forward line is brilliant when we're on top, but as a group, they are flat out uncompetitive when the game isn't going their way. Shannon Neale could be forgiven, but he was a non-entity for most of the game. You don't need to win every contest, but halving one or two every now and the would be nice.

Ollie Henry is in the same boat.

Jez looks disinterested. Is he injured? Either way, he doesn't look anywhere near the player of the past three years.

Brad Close was better tonight, but he and Tyson aren't having any impact.

The positives were the defence - Zach, COS and Yoshi were excellent, but once again, our better players were defenders. The contributions from the other two lines aren't cutting it right now.

Looking at our fixture for the next month concerns me. I'm confident we can beat the struggling Dees, but after that, the following four are all difficult and we could be 2-6 and barring a Brisbane-like run, finals in serious doubt.

The forwards are a major part but also we had fewer inside 50s for them to work with. A lot of this is on the midfield.

Dude you're going to have to get rid of this app, it's crazy trying to read your posts.

1 goal in the second half… What a waste when we were 32 up. We choked again.

Put a line through Clark and Bowes. I’m talking about their careers. Both dumb players. I’m certain they’ll never make it. What a disgrace using pick 8 on Clark.

Neale better hope that it’s his ankle that explained his career worst game.

SDK - I’d trade him. Soft dumb footballer who is irreparable from his mental demons since ‘22. He’s scared to mark with any contact and it’s cringe watching him.

O. Henry. An icing player that will never drag us over the line. I’m sick of his zero impact games in close matches.

Persist with Mullin.

Only ones that can hold their head high are Zuth, Humphries, Miers, COS, blitz and danger tried.
Man you must be pis$ed. Maybe sleep this one off

We have turned the best young Key Defender in the game in 2022 into a very very average AFL ruckman. Sam also has to take more than his fair share of the responsibility since then.

I don’t actually know what the long term ruck plan is as ppl keep telling me it’s Conway. If that’s the case, can we not find some other donkey to do it until he’s ready.

Sam isn’t hard enough to be around the ball when it’s white hot. He’s also not alone.
I think what some forget is he's been turned into a very poor ruckman because he was an absolute disaster down back. And not just for one month or two months, but two seasons.

I actually liked his move to the ruck because he just wasn't cutting it down back, but if he doesn't cut it in the middle I'm not sure what his options are. Maybe a run up forward?

O'Sullivan had as good and as impactful a game as an interceptor last week against the Saints than SDK had in almost three years.

It's a big problem and it's getting to the point where it can't continue. We look a much better side down back with Henry and Kolo over SDK.

None of our small forwards put enough heat and pressure on the opp half backs.
Zorko and Sinclair last week.

Our forward line isn’t functioning at the moment, still early but you’d hope we can start to turn it around soon.

On another note, I’m quite sick to death of teams transitioning with ease after we kick a point, the amount of times Zorko just went up the middle from kick out with ease which more often than not ended with a lions shot at goal was incredible. It’s been a bug of mine for years and never seems to have been addressed, teams just move it too easily from their kick ins.
