Opinion How is Taylor Walker viewed by neutrals?

I don't like him. The racism, the camp, the power stance, and berating players for leaving the Crows; he just comes across as a flog. Someone who likes to mouth off and throw his weight around but has a sook when things don't go his way. I won't deny that he's a talented player, but the ego and entitlement he swaggers about with is ridiculous.

Don't take too much notice of what players are like off the field, but does appear to be a typical MMM bogan. But on the field he's been a fantastic player. Beautiful set shot and field kick, great mark, reads the play well.
I like watching him play.

Bingo.

Fans yelling racist abuse at players in the stands is a lifetime ban.
But a player leads to a wet lettuce leaf sanction and an awkward 1v1 with the victim.

I hate seeing Walker play football, hate that commentators lap up what he does and wish he would **** off into the anonymity of public life.

You clearly don't know what happened if you think Robbie Young was a victim.

The same two words spoken by a fan to a player and its a lifetime ban.
You cannot have such a disconnect between fan and player sanctions. What message does that send..
There is context.
Yelling to a players face when he is playing is one thing, saying it to someone in a a private conversation that was overheard by someone and reported is another.
He wasn't at the fence screaming it out to him, he didn't post it on his social media.
If one player is talking to his brother at home and called someone "ghay" or the like, should he be banned from playing for two years?

There is also context that he was a club captain, 10+ years in the AFL and would have had more education in regard to indigenous history then almost any other profession out there.

Also my recollection was Walker initially denied even saying anything, but only after the insistence of the club official/helper who heard it did he come clean and admit what he said.

Can play footy tho, I'll give him that.

I'm not sure if Walker is the main issue why half of the players stormed out of the club. He could be one of the issues but I think it is more of a club issue. There was a lot more going on including that camp. When things get ugly in Adelaide, they really get ugly. Does not matter if it is the Crows or Port, both sides have badly underachieved the last 2 decades.

Walker hit that all time low with that racial abuse on Robbie Young, he was frustrated and crossed the line. Yep, the worst thing he has ever done. Has has since apologized, but these things will always linger and once the damage is done, it is done.

Apparently a majority of Big Footy posters have never said anything they've regretted in a private conversation...

Walker is probably the most damaging tall forward with ball in hand of recent times, perhaps behind Jezza Cameron and Franklin but arguable that he is on their level with ball in hand.

Not a contested marking beast like Hawkins or even Jack Riewoldt.

But he makes up for it with his other elite skills as evidenced by him being in the top 30 all time VFL/AFL goalkickers playing at CHF for a lot of his career.

Led his team to be the best side in 2017 that choked it on the last day, but he was one of the few that showed up on the day.

Has kicked more goals than Roughead, J Brown, Loewe, Grant, Tredrea.

Has coped with his senior coach being murdered and the club being a shambles off the field more than once.

One of the best players to watch in the game.

Should go into the Hall of Fame.

One of the greatest minds of our generation. On par with some of the greatest in history. Newton, Einstein, Hawking, Walker. A giant standing on the shoulders of giants.

He got Six Weeks (plus two pre season games) and a 20k fine.
Barry Hall only got Seven.
Seems a fair punishment for a bad comment made to a friend on the sidelines of a SANFL match.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves, he's certainly no Dusty Martin in the smarts department.

Tex is loved by all Crows supporters, but I was wondering how neutrals see him?
Port supporters don't like him, obviously, but what about other clubs supporters?
Also, when his career is over, will be seen as a much admired player, or a villian?
On the positive side, he doesn't like Kane Cornes, so that has to count for something.
The racism stuff was disappointing but as a player love him.

Terrific career for resilience and longevity and love how he kicks those big bombs outside 50.

Has earnt respect.

Kicked two goals but part of the reason Adelaide didn't do so well is because he didn't play anywhere near his best, which is very good. You could argue he was one of the players that went missing, especially given he was captain.

Bullshit mate, the midfield is where the game was lost.

The Crows game plane relied on winning clearance and getting clean ball to the forwards, none of which were any good at contested marking.

Walker, a lead up forward, can't do anything about his midfield getting beaten.
