Didn't he get done for like 7 games? For saying two words? Was an absurd punishment
The same two words spoken by a fan to a player and its a lifetime ban.
You cannot have such a disconnect between fan and player sanctions. What message does that send..

Match winner on his day, great to watch, incredibly skilled. Somewhat unfulfilled talent, similar to Joe Daniher before last year's fairytale.

Along with the racial abuse suspension another cross against his legacy was his presiding over the infamous 2017/18 preseason camp, his furious defence of it in the aftermath and the SMSs from him to his teammates that were leaked afterwards. Like Jobe Watson that was - and I think should remain - a permanent stain on his legacy as a captain of the Adelaide Football Club.

I don’t subscribe to the idea that if you make a mistake like his rather disgusting one, you are condemned to be that person forever.
That may be true. Everyone can learn and change who they are at any point. However, that does not mean that the actions you take should not have consequences at the time, and his career should have been in tatters for doing what he did.

AFL players aren't dumb, uneducated kids anymore. They come into professional environments being paid plenty of money and are given plenty of education in a world where everyone knows what he did is not on. This isn't the 80s, where you go "shucks, what a character for ribbing the bloke!"

I wish the AFL and clubs had learned from such incidents, but then there's Balta running around right now. Always will be a boys club with protection of the boys despite their indiscretions a priority.

Says the guy who's team is a basket case that their best young talent and their captain both want to jump ship from.
I think you best be worried about what's happening at the Eagles.
I mean, is coke and meth still the after game snacks down your way?

Yeah both of them and also heroin before the game hence why we play so badly. Probably should reverse it 😜

Even if we forget the racist remarks, I don't think he will be remembered all that much over time, other than by Adelaide supporters. He was a good forward, but he's not one of the great forwards. His head will pop up from time to time, and you'll be like, "Oh yeah, he exists." I don't think he's ever even won a Coleman? No premierships. He's got a stack of goals, been consistent but that's about it. If he can stick around for a few more years, maybe snag a premiership, crack into that top echilon of total goal scorers who knows? He's 35 though so I wouldn't hold my breath.

Matthew Richardson never won a Coleman medal nor a Premiership.

One of the strangest draft picks of all time

A NSW scholarship player who was drafted by Adelaide Crows at pick 75....

WTF
Wasnt Strange. It was good recruiting. We saw his talent as a 16 year old and selected him as our scholarship player. Other clubs were able to as well. Back then there were no bidding for Father Sons etc. If it was these days he would have been bidded on in the top 10 and crows would have had to give up a few darft picks to match.

He didnt say it too the player, he said it in a huddle to his own teamates, and it was reported by a Crows official, that's the difference and presumably why he didn't get the book thrown at him.

He has carved out a pretty good career, probably sneaks into the Hall of Fame based off his goalkicking at the very least he will be in the SA HoF.

Great kick on the run and set-shot.
Not sure what else to say about him. those are things that come to mind when thinking about Walker.

Tex is loved by all Crows supporters, but I was wondering how neutrals see him?
Port supporters don't like him, obviously, but what about other clubs supporters?
Also, when his career is over, will be seen as a much admired player, or a villian?
On the positive side, he doesn't like Kane Cornes, so that has to count for something.
Not by all.

One of those types that seems a complete meathead, but turns into a highly intelligent high skilled footballer when the siren sounds.
I'm surprised he's only 192cm, plays like 198cm.

Great playe, one if my all time favourites.

The history books probably won't do his career justice. Only one All Australian, no Coleman after playing 15 years as a permanent key forward, no premiership and probably most notable no club B&F.

Going by the records he will probably go under appreciated poat career.

Off field the.racial slur and being part of the leadership during the camp fallout are two things that should haunt him.

one of the best kicks in the game currently.

players with as few accolades as him don't generally get remembered by neutrals though. how often do people talk about daniel bradshaw?

he will of course get more mentions than bradshaw due to the fact that hes synonymous with one of the most spectacular implosions of a club on and off-field we have seen and his racist comments.
