We all need to hold the brakes on the TT hype ... he is the spearhead in a 3 headed monster forward line. You have walker who still has the tricks to trouble even the best key defenders, fog who can also take on the best defender. The fwd line coach has identified that each of these guys can beat any opponent 1 v1 so they aren't getting into each other's way. Forward game plan seems to be working well ATM and fears of being too tall hasn't eventually.

He needs to just keep marking the ball because he's going to be stronger faster and taller than his defender and fog and walker are going to isolate for him.

It was really obvious that we had Port on toast in that last qtr. Then our stupid campaigner of a coach simply panicked and went way too early in shutting it down.

Now, I think they learn from that.

The worry is that Nicks over reacts to the learnings, like he always does.

We will be up by 13 points with 2 minutes left and he will be throwing everyone forward trying to make it a 19 point game.

Collingwood v Fremantle

Disposals 300 V 375
Inside 50s. 34 V 62
Clearances. 30. V 43
Contested Possessions 122 V 134
Uncontested Possessions 170. V. 234

What an awesome, incredibly efficient team
Wow, what an amazing coach.

Crows lose the stats but win the Showdown.
We are sooooo shiiiiiitttt
Nicks is so clueless.

The big difference is that when Collingwood were up with 13 minutes to go their coach didnt shut the game down and allow Fremantle to almost pinch the game.

Instead they kept attacking and by kicking 2 goals cruised to a relatively comfortable 14 point win, rather than being a Rozee gimme away from being 2 points down with a minute to go.

I saw Nicks had a radio interview this morning where I think King asked him about an alternative to Thilthorpe doing second ruck and Curtin was who Nicks suggested as our ‘third’ but that he’s young.

This was a good interview for anyone interested, way better than the standard weekly pressers. Went into some different topics including the potential for MM and Hinge to get midfield minutes in the future.

Just on this, I've heard a bunch of commentary around how it was a "fantastic" game, or a "real showcase" of footy. Obviously, it was close and still alive as a contest until the very end, which helps. And there were a couple of big moments, such as Rankine's goal or Keane's mark. But my impression on the night was that it was a pretty poor contest overall. Is that just me being a grumpy supporter and wanting a better showing?
It felt like it would be a good game for a neutral watching it live and that solidified when I watched the replay too (close contest, big key forward clunking contested marks, several lead changes, somewhat high scoring, massive crowd, one team dominating last 10min for little reward, clutch marks at the end). Neutrals just love the Showdown these days.

Port love a 'back against the walls' win too and have pulled off a couple against good opponents this year, which makes the win even sweeter for me given that we didn't win the midfield battle and had to grind it out defensively to generate scoring opportunities.

I mean, 'coach that won premiership two years ago gets given more respect than guy that's never made finals after minor round win' really doesn't need all that much explanation does it?

You could've just typed the last sentence.

Yes, that is what a good coach does. Not a clueless one that stops his team when they have momentum to allow the opposition back into the game. Slow the game up to get more stoppages when you have been flogged in clearances all night, just mind numbingly stupid.

Also Collingwoods close game record is amazing, McRae is on record saying for the two years they were relentless in their drills on how to finish the last two minutes - either in front or behind.

Meanwhile we still look like the players don't know what to do in close games - bit like our coach.

Also they rested a bunch of players and still won, against a team we'd coughed up the game to by quarter time only weeks before

Twas a strange example to try and prove a point that Nicks is a good coach cos he had one game similar to McCrae.

Lets just ignore McCrae's finals record, his GF win, history of winning close games, even the game he choose to compare McCrae rested 4 seniors players whilst Nicks has a history of playing injured senior players.

Its not a strange example when you consider who posted it, pretty normal if you think about it.

And the Crows had just kicked 6 of the last 7 goals. Had all the momentum against a team that struggles to run out last quarters.

Shutting it down that early was wrong, plain and simple.

Please feel free to bump all my glowing comments about Nicks over the last 5 years.

Perception is an interesting thing. Watching the Showdown, my impression was that it was a high intensity contest with both teams having periods of dominance. I then read the Gameday Thread and it was the usual sewer pit of comments about how crap many of our players were and the total stupidity of Nicks (all well before the last 10 minutes).

The point behind my post was that both games were quite similar with the losers dominating the stats, particularly the inside 50s, and the winners very efficient in the F50.

It will be interesting to see how our midfield matches up against the Pies.

Even more reason to bring Edwards/Bond in to get some experience.

History tells us that Nicks would probably replace the vacant Hinge/MM position with someone who is already in the team instead of young player, therefore someone like Milera would be held in the team for continuity/experience.
