Some fans have no idea .

In the crowd you hear just kick it .

Umm kick where straight to Collins .

My favourite type of fans -

"Just kick the ball"...

Player X kicks the ball... "WTF did you kick it"

Make up your mind would ya 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

I love Mannagh but I hope the coaches are working with him on composure in the f50. A handful of times including today and the prelim he’s blazed at goal when a team mate is open. You want players to take shots but it’s a pattern with Mannagh. And it’s something he can get coached out of his game, he just needs a couple of seconds more composure to assess both options. He gets a lot of dangerous ball which puts him in these positions I hope he can iron it out. If he didn’t miss then I guess we wouldn’t care.

He can be reel selfish at times .

Only if you can nail them
Well 5 of Mannagh's 6 score involvements weren't shots at goal. 22 of his 23 disposals weren't shots at goal.

So despite that one "hungry" moment (and he does have 1 or 2 each game), he did a hell of a lot of other things that served his team-mates. Like every week.

I wouldn't be surprised in fact if Scott told Mannagh it's fine to pull the trigger every now and again - since Miers and Close usually pass off. Obviously in the heat of battle it can be tricky determining exactly when those moments should be.

The lights went on and the rain came down
The temperature dropped. It was cold and wet.
Ideal conditions to play the team from QLD
The pressure was red hot, ball was slippery
Suns started bright with clean ball handling.
They were getting first use and using it well
Cats rushed kicks forward, fell into Sun's hands
Thought slippery conditions favoured the Cats.
Cats pressure forced fumbles and mistakes
It was difficult to move the ball in long chains
It became a struggle for every meter gained.
Holmes was the difference between the teams
Holmes ran, bounced, ran, then kicked long.
Slowly Cats started to hold onto the territory
Ball was locked inside the Cats forward half
Opportunities for the Suns became a drought
Jezza and danger were effectively held out
Cats small forwards took their chances
Stengle starred kicking 4 brilliant goals
Close, Miers, Dempsey, Atkins, Humphries
... Kicked a goal each.... it was enough
Game was ugly, the 4 points was beautiful.

Love what Mannagh brings to the team, he’s been great since he came to the club. He’s worked on his game since stepping up from vfl and added more defensive aspects. He is a creative player and a midfielder who kicks goals.
The issue is when he pulls the trigger when team mates are open and he misses. Some of the team aspects like that are things players need to develop from state league to afl.

Yeah I'm not denying he has burnt team mates. Like I said, you get one or two of those moments a game. It'd be perfect if it was zero.

I guess what I'm saying is that because he is a high volume player who is heavy on (non scoring shot) score involvements, disposals, clearances - many of which involve assisting his team-mates - then you can forgive the odd misjudgement. More so than if he was just bobbing up with the ball 5 times a game.

Mannagh buzzes around relentlessly for 4 quarters like an all action Duracell bunny. Sometimes the moment gets to him. Remember, he's only played like 30 games at this level. I realise he's a mature ager but nothing is like the intensity of actual AFL grade stuff.

I get it though. It's human nature to lay the boot in on a couple of mistakes and brush aside the 15-20 good moments. We've done it with Duncan his whole career. Dangerfield too.

11 goals and 5 goal assists (3.2 combined average) + 13.8 disposals average for Stengle over the past 5 games.

12 goals and 10 goal assists (2.8 combined average) + 13.2 disposals average since the Hawthorn game where he turned things around.

The first 5 games he averaged just 2 combined goals/assists and 8.8 disposals per game.

It's been great to see Stengle building form after a quiet start to the season.

You have to say it sticks out like dogs balls when he continually does it. There's not many sitting at home that don't sigh, (Awww Mannagh, someone else was there!) and maybe left thinking he's overestimating his talent with Hail Mary shots on goal.
What it shows, is that he's creative. He definitely must have a licence. Like you, they look at the overall picture, and don't throw the baby out with the bath water.

Numbers always help.

Mannagh's had 190 disposals this season. How many of them do we think were ill-advised, inaccurate shots at goal when he had a better placed/open team mate inside 50? I'm thinking there's probably 1.5 per game on average, so let's say 15 times so far.

I wonder how this compares to other attacking half forwards across the league who are given a license to shoot? And whether they are doing it more or less than once every 12 times they get the ball.

Some food for thought.

Not sure, don't think there would be many, and our success rate might cover any antagonism. A certain amount of chaos forward is expected, and can work for us, even as a defensive forward mechanism after a point kicked. With his stats, those are across the ground, not so much the forward line. His real value is in close. I think we'd best keep Shaun :)

Very early here, so off to the replay.

I think that if a suspension does come out of this game it may be a Gold Coast player.

Imagine flipping them and the reports that would follow. Walter would be acclaimed ..and Stewart would be held out for riddicule.

What was the reason they were wearing the musk life saver gear? Just another way to ensure we had the white shorts at home? ….

On Mannagh. Some players have the ability to seemingly make the game slow around them. Mannagh at times still has these little VFL moments where the game looks too quick and he is playing instinctual or rushed. Some times its brilliant. There was a pass to Cameron against Adelaide that was right in front of me (Crows game).. that was enacted so quickly , I marvelled at it.

I think its hard to criticise anyone too hard for skill errors in those conditions .. the ball shaping kick(Banana/checkside whatever) .. probably did not bite as well in the wet as it usually would but it probably also shows up a chink that he is not Lawson Hump ..and his left side is not his preferred. In Q2 ..he kicked a rushed left foot OOBOTF … so he he probably tried to go with the more secure option.

Martin did not do anything super fantastic but his kicking looked clean and how easily he just handled the level was impressive. Just Pnp Would give all great hope for once he settles . Stay fit and he will soon become important.

The positives from the game .. Holmes, Stengle , Henry , Stewart, Martin and that it was a quiet night for a couple of important players.
