Credit to the Demons, they had plenty of chances to roll over and never quit.

Having said that, imagine having a $1.2M / year tagger on the books until 2030... Yikes.
Imagine we got stuck with Oliver and not only missed out on Curtin and Draper but also a young Peatling who has turned out to be very cheap. Future list killer that sliding door moment.

AFL definitely hold the view that a team that has had 6 days break is 100% recharged and fit to play. They don't view further break an added advantage. It doesn't seem that unreasonable.

Last I heard, single shorter breaks have no impact on likelihood of winning. It’s back to back that damages chances.

Also McVee 100% touches that Keays ‘goal’ when he slaps his arm around the post and gives it the momentum to carry the line 😅🤐
Correct, but they were focusing on the wrong part. They needed to wind the vision back further. Happy for one of those to be in our favour for a change.

Rankine, Soligo, Dawson, Peatling played well. Fog and Tex chipped in when needed.

Thilthorpe and Curtin both quite after great games last week.

I feel like we would have lost that game in the past once Dees got that run on in the 2nd. Very happy that we were able to get the game back on to our terms and get back on front. We didn't play well but got the win. Take the 4 points and move on.
Yep, 7 goal turn around from middle second qtr, it wasn't long ago we would have completely collapsed in that situation instead. I'd prefer we didn't leave it until mid 2nd qtr to turn up however.

The Demons have a weird forward set up

Fritsch isn't a key forward. Neither is Melksham, but these two are often their out of the goal square options.

Petracca forward also is an awkward match up.

Didn't feel we matched up all that well. It wasn't obvious who should go to who. Got outmarked a bit in the first half, led to the footy sometimes. Butts vs Melksham seemed odd at times.

We looked a bit at sea in the first half but luckily they kicked poorly and our defenders to their credit found their feet after half time. Lots of intercept marks and crucial spoils in the second half.

Milera being a late out should have been replaced by Chayce. On what planet is Murphy a like for like replacement?
The only hope I had was Nicks knew that he’s definitely one that will not be on the list next year so he’s doing that weird we’ll play him down in Tasmania just for a one week opening, have him sub for an interstate game and hold him over as the emergency just so the younger contracted guys or the guys pushing for a contract get full games at SANFL level… but I thought that with Smith for over 12 months as well, so it’s safe to assume the old reasoning that I’ve always thought which is Nicks just has a total obsession with try-hards who are mates with everyone at the club because that’s what he was back in his day.

What was going on at the start with Brodie Smith lining up at half forward?

He drifted to half back during the quarter and stayed there for the remainder of the game. Seemed an odd way to kick things off and we started flat

Isaac Cumming is not the player I thought we were getting. 13 disposals and very little impact. Easily the least influential of the 3 recruits this year.
Thilthorpe is listed as injured, any intel?
Milera a late withdrawal for personal reasons..?

Why the hell we’re not giving Edwards, Dowling, Bond the odd game is beyond me,

This is why Murray with two working knees is preferable to Butts long term. He's much more mobile and provides more flexibility.

Things turned in the second quarter when Big Max Gawn (and ROB) went off for his rest. We kicked two goals while he was off, including the brilliant bit of play by Curtin.

When Gawn returned he got injured in a marking contest, crashing into Dawson. Max hobbled off the ground and was off for the end of the quarter. This was the period of the Game when what got back into it.

Gawn had controlled the ruck to that stage. After half time ROB was much more competitive and started to get heavily involved around the ground. Gawn seemed to be ailing a bit. Had to be helped up off the ground by team-mates a couple of times.

I agree. However I think ROB did about as well as he could've against Gawn. The bloke is a monster.

Our forward depth is exhausted because of how we have treated our 7th forward role in the last eight weeks, where we've had four players rotate through the role and have absolutely no idea what we are doing with the position moving forward, as were responding to SANFL form.

The evidence says that there is no one on our list who makes us better in this position. No matter who you go here, Murphy, Taylor, Pedlar, Cook etc, we're just dealing with the same shit, unless you want to rob Peter to pay Paul and demote Michaelanny to this role. Nothing about "different stages of development", we just have accrued (and retained in the case of us resigning Cook last year) too many players who are due to be being delisted in this sector and are just waiting the season out to hopefully cut into this issue.
This is exactly right. I’d rather Taylor, cook or pedlar over Murphy but it’s pretty marginal - mostly I think they’d be more likely to take a chance if they got one, though they’d likely get less of the ball. Murphy usually does a bit better than two disposals in a half, but you’re not getting much out of that position with the players we have regardless of who you pick. And I think it’s fairly unlikely any of those guys have a significant AFL future.

The likely change for next week is for both pedlar and Taylor to be in with Rachele and Murphy out and that is… not inspiring.

Butts on Melksham felt like a poor match up for sure, but also it didn't feel like we had any other way we could go. Thought Butts did much better in the 2nd half to get a bit more involved. Was pretty invisible the first half.

He was more than competitive against a 7 time All Australian Ruckman, fair dinkum some people are unrealistic when it comes to ROB.

I don't recall Curtin setting the world on fire when he was playing SANFL.
He was pretty good - won his debut with a best on ground performance. Played a few different roles with mixed success.

But obviously the club sees plenty of these guys outside of sanfl games as well.

Hes playing on the dead wings, and hes not a winger.

Has his moments but he'd be on the edge..... if we were actually drop anyone and im not sure we will

Pedlar when fit is the obvious one.
