The boys did exactly what they need to do tonght , probably for the first time all year! Fantastic win.

Meek, Battle, Sic, Hardwick, Newk, Nash, Wiz, impey , Scrim, Mass, great games.

Can’t believe what Gunston is doing this season - nobody saw this coming from the man now known as uncle!

Ward has really started to stand up.

Also reckon that CJ , with his defensive efforts tonight was an upgrade on Morrison and telling.

Gives everyone hope now!

Positives:
  • Sis, Scrimshaw, Barass and Battle were absolutely incredible in defence.
  • Meek was huge. Obliterated Cameron.
  • Hardwick: this bloke honestly does it all week and week out in defence. Love him.
  • Newk was huge.
  • Worpel came back after a shaky first quarter and ran hard all night.
  • Ward - similar to Hardwick, he goes about his job each week and is bloke who runs himself into the ground every game.
  • Chol, Watson and Gunners
  • Impey and Amon provided run off halfback.
  • It was probably our best game of the season? (not sure how this compares to our Bulldogs performance)
Negatives:
  • I'm glad we won so I can say what an absolute disgrace the umpiring was: phantom non 15m calls against us, non free kicks, Pies getting away with everything and every 50/50 going against us.

So many players to commend it would just be the player’s list. So to pick one: Mass paid reparations…and then some
(ps Sis amazeballs)

CJ had his best game in 2 years too. His time at BHH clearly helped his confidence and he was fearless with no 2nd guessing himself. Very impressed.

Bold choice by Sam but it definitely paid off.

After last weeks heartache, this week its triumph is ecstasy!

A real back to the walls game, with us knowing we needed to win to keep alive September action and missing our star midfielder in Daysy.

  • Newcombe was tremendous and played like he was finally over the calf complaint. Led the midfield so well, with Josh Ward along for the ride and performing well again.
  • Impey’s run from defence all night kept the speed on the ball.
  • Meek was colossal in the ruck and dominated, giving us first possession and then kicking a career high three goals to boot.
  • Battle, Barrass and Sicily continue to gel and work together in unison, while Dimma kept Elliott quiet all night.
  • Gunners kicks 4, being in the right place at the right time with his fantastic footy nous.
  • Wiz lit it up, his speed and attack on the ball all game is such a dangerous threat to the opposition.
  • Ginnivan works tirelessly all game and his ability to bring others into the game is such an asset.

Now for the whipping boys, who have copped it in the neck but deserve the biggest of praise.
  • Worpel started slowly but built confidence throughout the game and his work in Nick Daicos around the ground was pivotal in stopping the Pies attack. Kicked a goal that he richly deserved as well.
  • CJ is often criticised for his attack in the ball and ability under pressure but stood up big time tonight. His defensive running and ability to get a hand in and stop a pies attacking raid was first class.
  • Chol has been bagged for his inability to impact against good teams. He worked hard all night, with his pressure for a big man elite, while kicking three goals that could very easily have been five or six.

Our destiny is in our hands. Win next week against Melbourne and we are all but guaranteed a second consecutive finals berth.

We'll get sterner tests than that in weeks to come. A lot of mistakes from the Pies. Well done to us, got it done.
But it was our pressure that caused a lot of those mistakes. The game was even and up for grabs in the first quarter. Our sustained pressure, combined with great running and instincts broke their will.

A fantastic performance where every player contributed. Our best for the year.

I know we lost to Adelaide but some of our football across the last two weeks has been Premiership quality. I hope we keep it up.
Shows how well Adelaide is going because I felt we weren't far off this level we just sustained it for longer tonight.
