Was the highest rated player on the ground last night.

Every time he gets near the ball good things happen.

Even in our centre clearances when he charges through with speed you had two Collingwood jumpers try and stop him getting the ball only for it to spill out to Newk unmarked.

Our tactic for Daicos was brilliant - a team focus that emphasised our player's strengths, rather than a straight tag.

At stop-ball contests, Worpel generally stood inside Daicos - using his body to block Daicos getting a clean run at the drop. Daicos invariably tried to win the ball (Worpel was in the way), even starting wrestles with Worps before the bounce. Then at the bounce, Worpel went ball hunting - as he was closer to the drop, Daicos was regularly forced to switch defensively rather than break into space.

At the same time, Nash was pivoting from his opponent to Daicos - so if Nick did mange to get possession, Nash was already closing at speed from the other side - in his face immediately. Finally, in transitional play Ward was keeping a close-ish eye on Daicos, using his stamina/speed to always be working back diligently to cover whilst still being an offensive option on overlap.

Nick may not have had a great game, but actually went up in my eyes - he worked damn hard defensively, covered massive amounts of ground - and whilst he was still a ball hog - most of his possessions had offensive intent and purpose.
Yeh I think we played Daicos well and he also showed why he needs so much attention.
He was very cramed and wasn't given any room to be creative - but still got the ball about 25 times. He definitely did not slice us up.
If we had relaxed on him at all he could have really had an impact.

And one of them was called for holding the ball, but he had no prior opportunity and should have been called ball up.

I hope Zak Butters was watching last night.

Did anyone notice the head knock Lewis copped in q4?

AFL members side, went down for a bit. Looked bad from my angle and thought he was cooked again but the broadcast angle on replay barely captured it. Feel like it could be a watch this coming week..
He was on channel 7 being interviewed about an hour after the match and seemed fine. No signs of delayed concussion or anything.

Carlton actually looked ok last week so maybe there’s a small chance of an upset . As much as we want Carlton loosing I think we need to root for them this week
That's true. Top 4 is a chance now so my thoughts on who we want to win/lose are changing. Port would have been half a chance against Freo but there no chance with their injuries and cue in the rack mindset now. Freo could definitely lose the last 2 however.

Just watching the game again. How hot was the holding the ball decision on battle when he broke free. You will see 300 tackles that are held longer this weekend with no holding the ball decision.

It was definitely there but it's stiff in the sense that they usually afford players more time.

If they adjudicated it that way for every tackle I'd be pretty happy.

Too many players get to do a 720 like a ballerina before they need to dispose of it.

Not much to add to the comments so far - strong even performance, with some nice hokball moments. Collingwood are definitely off their game and were disadvantaged by losing Howe very early. However, we probably would have had their measure last night, even if they were right on their game and Howe did not get concussed.

People are saying Sicily is back to his best. I don't think that is quite right. His intercept game is as good as it has ever been - reading the ball, out-bodying opponents and catching everything that comes his way. However, his kicking is not so great. He is not hitting targets and opening up play as he does at his best. He was responsible for a couple of unforced turnovers by foot last night. When he gets his leg back, we will know he has really returned to his best.
He took alot of safe options though so it didn't really cost us apart once in the 3rd quarter when by than we were well ahead. Was an absolute general all night just owned the back part of the ground.

Geelong are hard to read. Absolutely feasted on the bottom sides, and then lost to GWS and Lions twice. Squeaked over Collingwood, lost to Carlton.
Their injury list comprises three tests to players they can do without who are probably right to go if needed. They are essentially at full strength. Not sure they can go all the way but with some of the other contenders down critical players it's hard to rule them out completely I reckon. It's just hard to know if it helps or hinders them that while all the other contenders are sweating over game results they are only worried about getting Jezza to the ton!

There pretty much full strength. Only Kolo would play if fully fit IMO Duncan is cooked now and Guthrie has missed too much footy to be a factor. What you see is what your going to get moving forward.
