First quarter Harris Andrews grabs Voss’s arm so much it’s trailing behind him. Play on.
Second quarter Voss bodies Andrews and slightly grabs his arm. Free kick Andrews.

Obviously Amiss is not getting those sort of frees

Mate how can you say that the coach has no influence on preparation and mentality. Mitchell has the Hawks playing arrogant, confident and running through walls. Do you see any players in their team shaking hands with the opposition or helping oppo players off the ground? JLo and our captain are both insightful and soft spoken individuals and I think that contributes to the mindset of the team. Don't underestimate the important of having the right mindset in the changerooms before the game.

We beat the Hawks.
They’re a game behind us. Possibly draw level after this round.

I can’t stand the over reactions and comparing to other sides.

We’re not 15th on the ladder. Sure shoulda coulda woulda.

We were flat as yesterday + didn’t take opportunities. We knew what was on the line.

If the players need a coach or captain to rev them up then they’re in the wrong business.

This post isn't game style related. That’s a different argument.

EVERY player knew what was on the line.

6 years and we’re still regularly insipid.

When does the coach have responsibility?

Regularly?

We’re 11-13 with many come from behind victories. When does the coach bank some credit for that?

A coach can’t take blame for 0.8

I’m not against a new coach, but when we screw the pooch it seems the midfield hasn’t turned up. Unsure that’s on the coach.

Logically then, the next question is why? Are we contributing to this in some way or are umpires simply treating us differently?

Agree to disagree. Team culture which is set by your club leaders is what determines mentality. We beat the Hawks but Hawks will likely play finals and we won't because they have the killer mentality and we don't. This isn't an overreaction but a clear trend we have seen all season. We have never put a shit side to the sword and our percentage has suffered because of it. Literally the same story last season.

Brisbane came with a plan but as Tyson said, everyone has a plan until you get punched in the mouth. If we came out fired up and punched them in the mouth, Brisbane's plan wouldn’t matter. Instead we came out nervous and vulnerable. If you don't believe what I am saying listen to JLo's conference. A journo called him out on how the players before the game ran out onto the ground having a laugh and having a good time.

St Kilda the first time and most of the second time, Port most of the game, Carlton for the first.

Insipid football for long periods against rubbish opponents.

How many complete performances? Adelaide, GWS, GC, Collingwood, first Bulldogs.

Winning masks a lot of deficiencies and we saw all of that last night

Again depends how you wish to word it.
Winning regardless of measure, is a win. What works well in those games, is what worked well.

I'm thinking that we were expecting the lions to come out with high intensity and contested to put the heat on us. Us wanting to apply manic pressure with what's on the line and occassion.

Instead they frustrated us with the chip , mark, keep p off game that threw us off. Then missed goals just compounded everything and frustration.
In part sure, but there was opportunities early for someone to set the tone. I think Voss has a couple moments where he hit the contest hard, Clark as well, but outside of those two we were limp and weak when called upon.

As frustrating as it was to butcher every chance going forward, it was just as hard to watch our players lamely reach out to lay a hand on an opponent.

The moments were certainly there for a player to stand up and make a mark, just about everyone let themselves down. Idk how you bounce back from that in a weeks time when the pressure will be at least as big.

What if you punch yourself in the mouth?
Question Mark What GIF by MOODMAN

Did it have anything to do with needing a 20 min warm up it the rooms beforehand?
What ever happened to a few quick run throughs on the boundary...

Do that warm up at the end of the half time break. Tell O'Driscoll he has 8 minutes to impact then sub him off for Fyfe.

Carlton leading port by over 50 points at half time…does this put our win in perspective?

Carlton

A lot has been said already about the match - being at the game I don't think Brisbane played any sort of genius game that we couldn't have unravelled. They were as slow with the ball coming out of back-half, their shitty chip-to-chip could've been worked out by a smarter team. There was no reason to let them continually out-mark us either.

Everyone's chipping the coach but how can you blame Justin for 11-9 scoring shots at half-time in our favour? Or 17-18 scoring shots in their favour at 3QT? We kick straight we probably win the game. Umpiring was bordering on farsical (and it has done for several weeks) but we should've been able to overcome that also.

We just could not handle the pressure, and we never have been with this outfit. We've overcome so many barriers this year but managing the big dance at home is not one of them. 2022 we were shell-shocked against Doggies at home and it was the will and might of senior players that puled us back into it. I really, really want us to play finals even if we're bundled out in the first round because with this team, we could have a Premiership side and go 20-2 next year and we'll still go out in straight-sets at home due to not being able to handle the pressure. Our 2012-15 campaign was different because there was a number of players who had played finals in both the '06 and '10 campaigns.

Why didn't we adjust and overcome the nerves at half-time? Why we were playing slow, languid footy out of half-back? Why did every player take too long to make a decision (often the wrong one), why couldn't we shake the goal-kicking collywobbles? For christ sake we kicked 15.4 in our previous home game in the windy, shitty wet.

The only thing on Justin for this one I think is selection intergrity - bloke is too conservative. Blind freddy could see O'Driscoll, Banfield and O'Meara weren't up for it last week and he couldn't pull the trigger. Simpson and Walker should've been in there. O'Meara is a long-term selection issue, I'm not saying Brodie would've been better - but to not gime another chance across two-years isn't just baffling? It seems downright cruel.

I did believe JL in the conference when he said we can win next week - despite the stakes we can, and should win next week and make this season count. A few prayers this weekend to help at least one result go our way wouldn't go astray either.

Eh

I think I've said this after about 5-6 different but similar losses now.

If it was a once off or even twice off then fine. But it's been a pretty similar pattern for several years of absolutely going to water in pressure games. The way we play as well as the way we train and are lead is a big factor in that. Some of that is on field, a lot of it is coaching.

Carlton

We can all look at results to suit our narrative.
Gold Coast smashed Brisbane by close to 100.
We belted GWS away.

We did also beat this Carlton side that are now up 50.

I e been impressed that we’ve been able to win many games when we’ve been down.

Other teams have down weeks and lose.

Anyway, I get it. Everyone is hurting. We’re 1 win off top 2.

I just see it as more of a player leadership issue than a coaching issue.

Even Adelaide, our last quarter was crap.

I think there are maybe 4 games this year where we’ve played 4 quarters of football.

Coming from behind all the time is admirable, but it doesn’t normally win flags.

Why was the crowd so pathetic last night? Everything on the line, possibly Fyfe's home game, and during Lion dominance all you hear is a hushed hum with the sound of the Lion cheersquad clapping and chanting. Embarrassing. Ever since the move from Subi there's been a huge lack of soul. It's really sad. Freo fans used to be renowned for their enthusiasm and they were die-hard. Fits my theory that they're not a true Football club any more, they're the Fremantle Football Corporation. Hard to be passionate about a manufactured sports entertainment troop that has no success.

Troll, but bit hard to be up and about when you go 0.8
