Top of the ladder sides usually have a min 4 in the AA side ....I hadn't considered Worrell, as he has a large # of competitors

Thilthorpe :padlock:
Worrell should be the first bloke from our team picked.
He was great last year and has been an absolute star this year. Absolutely has to be in the team.
Dawson will probably be the AA Captain. Rankine and Thilthorpe will go close. That clunk and goal might seal it.
Keane should also be in the squad, he’s been exceptional in a defence that has been amazing all year.

Well whenever theres a work on, it's "that's a work on in that space" so its part of a bigger Venn diagram of Nicksisms
BTW, I hope you put up my premiership frames in a good spot ;)

The other great difference is that they had 5x the tackles inside 50 that we had.

So they had a tackle nearly once per entry and us about 1 in 5 entries. Part of that is obviously us being better with the entry, but that is a stark difference. Sloane on TFS said straight up that we weren’t the better team on the night. Surely Scoring from forward 50 entries is part of being the better team. But fair to say that wasn’t a confidence building win. But we’re definitely around the mark. Accommodation has been booked and paid for.

Do you say this when other players get a job done on them, or only because it’s Murphy? Was Jamie Elliott having a poor night and zero credit goes to Bond? Christ, I don’t even think it’s a praise-worthy performance, but his name is coming up more than any other player in this thread, it’s a bit much.
No, I say it because of the lack of tackles and pressure acts.

Are you suggesting that Murph wore Daicos like a Durex all night?

I agree, but I personally don't want to hear about it every 2 minutes when there's a game to call.

I don't think the likes of dunstall and lyon belong in the box. Hudson gets on my nerves, but he is at least trying to call the game.

Lyon shat me constantly going on about no coaching moves. Was at the pub having lunch watching a bit of Port/Blues and none are a touch on Dermie for shitness though. I just don’t understand complaints about some bias, if you listen, there’s lots of positives about us during the call. But I couldn’t care if there’s none, just makes winning that much sweeter.

Would love to see a stat around number of players inside 50m per entry.

Sure Collingwood locked it in and kept pumping it back in … but to an absolutely overcrowded mess. An inside 50 that has bugger all chance of resulting in a score because there are 30 players in there - shouldn’t get the same weight as a burst into 50 with 3 defenders vs 3 forwards.

The rubbish around Thilthorpe’s fluffed attempt to flick the ball up with his foot to the ump - wasted no time - changed nothing.

The real missed non-frees is the bit that had me miffed. They can be momentum changing. So much of the anger to umpires is around that … they don’t record the ones they miss. A close free kick count is a massively flawed way to measure the umpiring accuracy.

Anyway - we take the win this time instead of having to suck up a bulldust loss and swallow an apology from the AFL about the missed calls.

Top 2 baby. Amazing. Now smash the Roos - get back to our way of playing - and set ourselves up for a serious tilt at the premiership. I’m gobsmacked we are here, it’s unbelievable really.

Go you mighty Crows!

I think Thilthorpe was absent mindedly trying to chip kick it to umpire 32. That's what it looked like from where I was sitting.
Exactly what I thought, and when it went over his head he goes “oh shit sorry” puts his hand up acknowledging it.

Nah, but whinged about playing 3 games in twelve days.

He got a 9 day break vs 6 day break and we were coming back from Perth.
How did they play three games in 12 days when they were coming off a 9 day break???

So you’re rationalising an obvious free kick missed against us? That’s why it’s hard to take the constant complaining seriously, when it’s our way you’ll argue that it didn’t matter, or worse, wasn’t a free kick at all. That’s a free kick all day every day.

Awesome to get the win no doubt.
Broke the hoodoo
I d be lying if i wasnt concerned with the midfield, At the game just felt like we were constantly defending and the stats back it up.
Ill need to watch the replay as everyones pretty positive here and stuck on the hill was hard to see most if the time.
Even tho we are winning i think we have been down the last few weeks,
I think this year the bye at end of season will definitely help us to refresh mentallly and physically before the finals.
Up the crom

What he was ‘trying’ to do is irrelevant. Umpires can’t make decisions based on their interpretation of intent, nobody intends to tackle high. It was a free kick, sometimes they fall our way.

If you read our games day thread you’d be excused for thinking we were totally rogered. We got 2 goals from the goal square they shouldn’t have and one from a throw in that should have been recalled. Although, it ultimately favoured their club and he had 2 easy options directly in front of him. Was almost impossible to gift us an easy snap, but he did it.
1st half umpire #32 was diabolical. He evened it up in the 2nd though.

I think it definitely can be, just to get that close loss to Collingwood monkey off our back. Don't need that hanging around if we play them in the finals.

Murphy's role was on Josh Daicos. From memory (I'll check stats in a sec), he has always killed us, generally from the wing.

Last night Daicos got 19 disposals and was rated their 11th best player (rating 67), alongside Frampton.

Previously:
R10, 2025: 29 Disposals - (Collingwood's 5th best - 82 rating)
R10, 2024: 30 - 2nd (118)
R15, 2023: 33 - 3rd (106)
R7, 2023: 31 - 1st (100)

The above justifies the role Murphy played. So credit to Murphy and the coaching staff for identifying a problem and putting in a solution to fix it. Will Murphy be wearing a premiership medallion if we somehow get there? Probably not. But he tries his guts out and in a side that is winning, he has come in and played a role for the team, and will be a small piece in what is hopefully a premiership puzzle by the end of the season. I don't think there is a need to be critical or worried of Murphy or the coaching staff at this stage sabotaging our season by making selection decisions that don't make sense. Have faith and enjoy the ride.
Reckon Taylor could have done that, except now he’s been shuffled and subbed.

Worrell, Dawson and Thilthorpe will all get into the 22. Rankine and Keane will make the squad but not the final team.

Is ROB a chance to make the squad??

Just a little thing that's bothering me more than it should.Has anyone else noticed that as we've climbed the ladder this year, there's been an increase among the commentators referencing the "Crow throw" game against Fitzroy in 1991.

I swear I've heard it mentioned every game we've played the last month or so. I can't understand why the commentators feel the need to bring up a game from that long ago where we had the rub of the green, yet fail to mention the more recent games where we've had the AFL admit we were on the wrong side of.

Max? We’ve seen him forward.

But I think the way Hinge went last night it could even be Max for Hinge and keep Bond as the “stopper”/Luke Brown defender.
I’d bring Max in as the “small” forward/lockdown presssure forward to play on the opps half back.

Replace Murphy.

But I dont think Max will be back next week regardless.

Max plays very well on both smalls and talls.

And has proven he can hit the scoreboard at the same time.
