Was reading through yesterday's Herald Sun this morning over breakfast, when I found this quote in the TV Guide liftout.

Channel 10's coverage of the Kangaroos-Port Adelaide preliminary final shows why Victorians must give Port and its supporters hell at Saturday's grand final. The gloating of Port players during the prelim was a disgrace. And what about those knuckle-dragging ferals otherwise known as Port supporters? Despite the belting, Kangaroos fans required protection from security guards to make it from their seats to waiting buses after the game. Get the claws out, Cats.

Makes me hope we belt the living suitcases out of them this weekend.

I remember hearing stories about Port fans throwing ball bearings and marbles at our cheer squad the first time we played them at AAMI Stadium 10 years ago. Seems they haven't been domesticated since then.

I'd like to see any port fan try and start shit on Saturday, they probably only do it at their home ground where they can feral mingle with each other.

Perhaps ask the kangas supporters on this board their experiences ... they were nothing but positive about the experience ....

Matches what I've heard from people in Adelaide.
GUys they are not that bad a bunch.
Sure they probably have their element but so do we. So does everyone.
this is likely another media beat up, contributing the opposite and having other club supporters decide to not support Geelong! Dont trust any of the f*****s - anything for a story.........

I was not aware of the need for security guards to protect anyone leaving the ground, but I can say that they are the worst bunch of supporters I have ever had to put up with. And I have stood in the outer at Vic Park and Windy Hill.

They were hopelessly one eyed, got stuck into the umpires before the ball was even bounced then whinged about every free kick given to North.

Booed the awarding of one free kick to North in the third quarter when Brogan threw the ball and as they booed, the replay went up on the screen showing the throw???

The worst was in the last quarter when Glenn Archer, in his very last game of AFL football took a mark and had a shot for goal. Port were a mere 14 goals up at that stage, but the ferals all managed to boo him. Disgraceful behaviour in my view.

Anyway, lets hope the Cats absolutely give them a hiding.

Go Cats.

can you let one of your members, BIg Mick From Arden Street know this? He has been rapid anti geelong hoping Port smash us because we are "cocky and arrogant"......haha!

So I ask ... is booing umpires and making noise when the opposition is taking shops something that is amizingly unique to Adelaide. I've been to games interstate against mainly opposition fans and this experience is exactly what I expect - and dont have a problem with.

Personal abuse of opposition fans however is a different thing. I didnt see this on the weekend. Hell - I had a solitary kangas fan in tears come up and shake my hand wishing us well - I didnt know what to say as I knew what he must have bween feeling.

Mate do you really care that much what we think of your supporters?? I doubt there will be any unprovoked violence from cats supporters at the ground, and if there is the cops will be on it like lightening.

However you cannot deny the over the top arrogance of some of your players.

every club has its idiots that due to too much alcohol and emotion do/say things after games that they may later regret in a more sober moment.

Every club has idiots but port has more than the average.

I lived in adelaide and remember going to a port game (v's geelong) and I was wearing my cats gear (as was my brother) and at 1/2 time just walking through the gate for a smoke power supporters were making sure they rammed their shoulders into us. And then there was the verbal abuse as well that was constant through out the day.

I have a theory the supporters are why they dont get the same crowds as Adelaide. Where would you want to take a family to the grey brigade they get at crows games or to the thugs they get at power? Even if you dont have a family but are a non crows/power fan living in adelaide and want to go to afl regularly who would you become a member of? ... easy choice for me ... Adelaide.

The core (hardcore) power supporters are a flow on from their SANFL supporters and I have seen them rather than carrying a magpies flag entering an sanfl game with a dead magpie on a stick. Now that is how you really barrack for a team and keep the kids happy.

It's true, a woman rang in to SEN this morning with the same story. She sounded like she was about 60. Not out of character from what I hear. I know a couple of people who've been to Port games and both have said they'd never attend another game there because of the behaviour of the supporters.

Let me guess, it's the same moron that wrote about Port being arrogant and that they should be booed, and wrote some other article writing crap about Port.

I THINK it was Patrick Smith, but don't quote me on that. Hes been dirty talking Port all week

i think the point he was making was that for archers last game ever there should have been a lil bit more respect. he was a champion after all.

and anyway, either way there are going to be extremes in society. i'm sure people going down to geelong have had some bad experiences too. the only thing we will have to boo about on saturday is the three idiots umpiring.

Archer got a guard of honour and a standing ovationfrom everyone in the ground (apart from a drunk moron about 5 rows back from me who was booing). Id say he got alot of deserved respect.

The problem as I see it is when you leave the ground you don't remember the hundreds around you who were clapping you remember the one idiot. All teams have feral supporters but its a tiny %. I have never felt unsafe at any AFL game Port or Crows. Only at Centrals games in the SANFL.

Actually Archer upon leaving the ground I think got a wonderful ovation. This was probably helped by the power giving a guard of honor not sure how the crowd would have reacted if players weren't giving him the respect he deserved.

True all teams have idiot supporters and it is possible I have just been unlucky in my experiences with port supporters but it only takes a small percentage to sully the general opinion of the supporter base. And Centrals supporters are one of the worst luckily most of them dont venture to away games. Watching a SANFL game down at Elizabeth can be an eye opener.

That is precisely my point.

At that stage of the game a bit of respect would have been nice to see.

had the game been close then fair enough do what you can to put him off his kick, we all understand what is at stake in those circumstances.

But it was well and truly over and yet the booing was loud and long and as far as I am concerned showed a complete lack of class.

All you people from Port can get on and try to justify the poor form of your supporters as much as you like. I can only judge from those in the immediate vicinity of where I sat and the word ferals is quite appropriate as far as I am concerned.

If it was Patrick Smith, then completely ignore it. He's nothing but a glorified shitstirrer. He's obviously been told to target Port this week.

I wasn't at the North game obviously, but I'd take it with a grain of salt. A couple of guys I know (Geelong fans) went over this year and said the Port supporters were fine. No problems at all.

So I'll reserve judgement until I experience it first hand. As should the author of the article.

No offence to Collingwood supporters but they are nearly worse than them.

LOL
just because u say 'no offence' doesnt mean u can offend someone after it

anyway, they offend themselves
