Well they were invited for shots of the players training, not getting 'lower back' treatment with the kit half off.
This is a stretch. Is he not allowed to appear on the Fox Footy broadcast when he's getting treatment during a game?

If he doesn't like it, it doesn't take much for him or someone in the club to ask; "Hey, no problem with taking photos of our players training though do you mind not showing them getting treatment?". Given the club invited her, I doubt she would have an issue with this.

The bare minimum level of respect was required here and he couldn't even show that.

joe444 Is this what you are referring to when you say he had his kit 'half-off'?

Yep. Covered by a towel, sure - but I can imagine the reaction if the genders are reversed.

Anyway, it's Alison, who's a veteran Geelong photographer and knows her stuff, but also someone Bailey's objected to following him up the race before. The footage of "the tirade" is just him talking over the fence to her.

The club's reached out to her and no doubt she'll be back. And yes Bailey needs to cut out the antagonism.

But an abusive tirade warranting censure - spare me.

Not interested in the optics.
It’s her account of how she felt, that it’s occurred multiple times now.
It’s the principle of intimidation and abuse to get your way over another person in the workplace.

The guy is a grub with very low morals, a self admitted junky so it does help determine what is going on pretty quickly when ever he’s involved

When has he admitted he is a junkie

Have you got a quote that backs this up

A junkie is someone with a chronic physical addiction to drugs who can’t function without them. Usually heroin or ice. Smith was a sometime user of recreational drugs

You continue to tread a very fine line between the real and the imagined.

Not sure there would be much outrage at all of an AFLW player being pictured in a similar position. It's hardly pornographic. If Smith is this concerned about his privacy then he should ask to get treatment in the change rooms. He would be fully aware that photos like this are going to be taken at an open training session.

I mostly just find it to be very strange behaviour to get so worked up over something so innocuous.

Oh you have my agreement there. 100%

Smith let loose at a male photographer at the airport a few weeks ago - using more colourful language than he did yesterday.

This is absolutely not a gendered issue, it’s about Smith’s relationship with the media.

My 2c as a Cats fan - he clearly shouldn’t have reacted the way he did, and he didn’t give any thought about the consequences of doing so, in the midst of a very exciting fortnight for the club. He should apologise directly to the photographer, and I expect Scott will apologise on behalf of the club when he does his next presser.

At the same time, I can understand why he feels being photographed receiving treatment is an invasion of his privacy. There have been multiple times this season where him missing a training session or receiving treatment has been front page news about ‘Bailey in doubt for next game’, which in turn forces coaches and teammates to answer questions about him and creates a bit of a circus for no reason.

Maybe he thought he was hidden from the cameras yesterday or maybe he didn’t even realise there would be media there, either way he needs to be better at regulating his emotions, and I hope he learns from this.

Moving forward I can see Smith missing more open training sessions than he attends, or spending more time indoors away from the cameras, which I couldn’t care less about but the media will as he generates more clicks and comments than anyone else.
Yeah I think what is getting lost in this is the sheer media pressure, scrutiny etc, not to mention what he probably cops from strangers day in, day out. Now that's no pass to act gracelessly, nor am I using the mental health excuse - the photographer didn't deserve it, as far as it seems anyway, but I feel the media and people who watch the circus (the public, us) like to poke the bear and then act up in arms when it attacks. This isn't just this situation, but in general.

And hey I admit I've potted Smith before - but he, like the photographer, is a human being, and I do think we should have some understanding, and dare I say empathy. I wanted to say similar with the Rankine situation, but these days if you're not baying for blood you condone it. You can disapprove of the behaviour but still care about the person.

Anyway, I don't know much of what really happened, but that's my 2 cents.

Photographers at an open training session are not paparazzi. Might as well call the camera crew at the game paparazzi.
Yeah I get that. He shouldnt have reacted that way, but I think there's an underlying reason why. No excuse, but he's clearly not coping well with the media pressure and scrutiny. Should probably pull his head in and lay low, for his own sake.

I must be in the minority and sure I am older than most of you on here (in my 50's). The guy makes a living on social media. He is constantly on it...half naked. Constantly promoting himself. Shirtless with abs is his brand. So this whole media pressure line is total bulltish from my perspective.

For mine (and I don't know the bloke from a bar of soap), he's an old fashioned w@nker. Do kids even use that term these days? A flog. A d1ckhead. A well paid one but nonetheless, still a w@nker.

And this whole mental health card he's played...I take extreme offence at. I assert that he got caught doing coke (or whatever) and played the mental health card. Rankine playing that card was also offensive.

I'm not saying he needs to be penalised or censured. I don't get easily offended and also understand most footballers are not role models. And I make sure my kids understand that. FFS, I played ammos for years and have seen what half the Melbourne legal community gets up to on a Saturday night. Including KC's and partners in the largest law firms. Or at least what they used to get up to when they were in their 20's. Bailey being a d1ckhead and doing "rec drugs" is neither here nor there for me. The mental health card is where he crossed the line...for mine.

He can play football though. Good player. Excellent athlete.

True the self promotion doesn't help, but that's the norm for celebs these days. It speaks to the wider issue of how celebrities and indeed ordinary people don't really have any privacy. Even if you don't promote yourself everything is monitored or scrutinised. One little slip up online or in person it could ruin your life.

Bailey Smith has apologised for his verbal spray of a photographer at training with the club not taking any action publicly towards the midfielder.

The Brownlow fancy reached out via text message to News Corp snapper Alison Wynd on Thursday morning, almost 24 hours after an expletive-laden lashing at Cats training.

In the message, Smith expressed remorse for his actions and said he wanted the pair to move forward and put the incident behind them.

Geelong and the AFL were both contacted for comment on Thursday with both believing the matter has been resolved.

Lol...it'd be taken down pretty quick even if I wanted to.

I am obviously compromised but if this was during the normal season I have no doubt the afl would suspend him for a week and force him to donate 5k to a respect charity.
It would be on the harsh side to suspend him for the prelim but given it's the second time he's had a go at this woman and he clearly isn't remorseful I suspect most footy fans would see this as reasonable punishment
