It means that the effect of the 3 tall's gets lessened because opposition defenders are more willing to assist against the 3 tall's as they are less worried of someone with Rankine's elite speed and kicking skills exposing the free Adelaide player them leaving creates. The lesser talented Adelaide midfield are also more likely to go the obvious option of the tall forward.

Midfield looked small and weak in all eight quarters. Didn’t help that Dawson played two stinkers

Curtin’s development will be interesting and whether next year is too soon to put him on ball for the majority of time. How they improve that area will be something to watch

We had our best midfielder out too, it's a cop out to use that as an excuse. The reason our midfield is average is because we can't get Day fit and Newcombe has almost been going at it solo every week. He's had mates finally step up the last few weeks (Ward and Worpel) and we look much better for it. No reason Berry or Soligo couldn't do the same to support Dawson.
