The seeds were there earlier though
We fell behind in the Hawthorn, West Coast and Collingwood games with Rankine still in the team
Didn't seem to be playing with the same zest
Surviving on some elite defending, super efficient forward line play and comebacks but that's not a sustainable method

Bit rich coming from a supporter of a club that is literally the worst in the VFL/AFL’s history.

We put the back line under pressure and then say whoever happened to be playing that match are terrible. Had Butts played people would be saying no wonder we play Murray instead. The system needs to change not the players (though I am a Butts fan).

We are soft and weak-minded. Small town team with small minds that choked on the big stage. Sad. People crying about the crowd booing Quaynor was a perfect example of this mentality.
We lost these games because we were afraid, period. The amount of hand-wringing over the Rankine situation, over something that was a victimless crime that nobody would have ever known about (and therefore no one hurt) didn't need to be beaten to death in the press. Didn't need to be punished like that either.
And more importantly, shouldn't have gotten into our players heads. We need to be mentally stronger and we need a coach who has some swagger and IDGAF attitude.
Look I never thought we'd end up winning the GF, but to go out like that in straight sets at home? Collingwood I could handle losing to. Thought all year they were the real deal. But Hawthorn? They have roughly the same age profile we do and we should have wiped the floor with them. Our midfield may not be up to scratch but everywhere else we are better.
Mitchell is many things (which I'll not say here), but the guy brings confidence and his players respond to that. Meanwhile we have a coach who just isn't up to it. Playing Murphy for 3 games in the latter part of the season while Dowling sits in the SANFL gathering 40 touches while we are crying out for midfield depth just says it all.
Time to grow up Crows. Time to get a real coach with real gravitas to take advantage of this team.

Is it good that we didn't get a (relative) gimme finals win vs Freo, GWS or Gold Coast?
Instead came up against rock solid September teams & coaches who eat newb teams & coaches for breakfast in September.
If we'd got a win against a team closer to our level it would have reinforced (to us) that we're on the right path. The glorious win at home vs Fremantle was the real Crows, the insipid finals losses either side to Geel/Haw/Coll weren't us.
Instead it's been laid bare that our style of play, selection and 22 still need major work.

People are still talking about form slumps when it is 100% the teams/coaches/game plans we have been up against in the last 6 weeks that is the issue not form.

But did it matter? No. ROB hasn't mattered all season.
You tried to talk about clearances pre finals and how concerning it was. It was well proven that they dont matter.
We won the clearances last week and got beaten.
This week - we scored 5.3 from stoppages compared to Hawthorns 4.5. Where the game was won and lost? Turnovers.
Hawthorn scored 10.12 from turnovers compared to us scoring 4.3.
A lot of things we need to fix before we get to ROB.
Where did these turn overs occur. Some of them would have been in the Hawks' forward 50 after clearances put the ball in there.
