Will be catching up with Merrett tomorrow. Will be interesting how that convo goes.
If this isn't Andy's first question I'll be very upset

I am not his biggest fan, but if it eventuates, it's a massive opportunity for him to step up and be remembered as a key figure in turning the club around.
Yeah I'm the same - and it wouldn't be long term imo, maybe 2-3 seasons until our new dawn breaks.

Ive been one of his biggest critics but that late season form and hearing the type of feedback he was giving on field was actually pretty good.

I think this whole Zach trade situation will end up making or breaking a few.
Andy is one that could really take that next step. His more personable approach might be a good circuit breaker from Merrett's style, combined with Merrett walking out on the group it could really galvanise the group behind Andy. There is a path there.

His talent is what it is at this point but I'd like to see the version of Andy that is playing midfield and acting captain. In the short term I think it works for the group.

I think we probably get a group of Andy as captain Martin and Redman as vices with Roberts in there as well.

Calm, reassured and intelligent. If only he played that way.

To be fair to him he played more composed footy when he was moved into the middle.

Felt like the best football of his career

I was not a fan of his first stint in midfield, but I think the size/type of midfielder that excels now has change a bit from 2020.
I think we tried to bulk him up too much back then as inside mids were all the vogue but now guys who can break out of congestion with footwork/speed are as important and andy got to shine a little in the back half of the season.

Different midfield mix too, in 2020 he was playing on-ball full time and most CBAs were with a mix of Shiel, Merrett and Parish.

The game against the Saints he was alongside Shiel, Durham and Kako who are much more explosive than the above mix and Durham's aggression is unlike any of the others.

I could see a Durham, Caldwell, McGrath midfield working on given how strong and combative Durham and Caldwell are over the football. Let McGrath set up defensive side the way Setterfield does and either defend the lost stoppage or use his lateral movement offensively.

Yeah dont mind that, really want to see Martin added to the mix more too.
