Ball is in your court for sure. Unless Geelong add in an Ollie Dempsey or similar they are nowhere near getting a deal done.

I expect a deal to happen Monday or Tuesday as there will be a lot of moving pieces with a trade of this size.

We've got interest in a few other role players so Swans might try and tie them into the fold to get it done.

That's assuming Curnow even has any interest in joining the Swans now that the Cats have come to the party.

If Curnow says he's only interested in the Cats, then the ball isn't in our court, it's been packed up and taken down to the surf coast.

I understand the Blues desire to have a bidding war, but a bidding war only happens when the seller can sell their product to anybody they want, and that's not the case in the AFL.

Curnow wants out of the Blues. He's named his 3 preferences and while obviously he'd prefer Geelong (already lives down there, entire family lives there, has a business there) its fairly clear that he'd still rather one of his other destinations than the Blues.

Swans may be 2nd on his list but his 1st preference is no shot of getting a deal done. He'll get to the Swans.

Sorry mate, but I disagree on that one. I think that was the case before Geelong started making offers, while their opening offer wasn't good enough for Carlton, it was probably good enough for Charlie.

I suspect Charlie will make a formal announcement on his preferred destination pretty soon, at which point the Swans will just say thanks but no thanks.

That doesn't mean that Carlton have to accept the trade, Curnow is still contracted after all, but once the Romar deal got canned and Geelong shifted their attention, everything changed. The AFL doesn't have club to club bidding wars in trades, they never have, because players have the right of refusal by default. Bidding wars only happen for free agents, and that's club to player, not club to club.

I absolutely understand Carlton's desire to get a bidding war happening, especially if behind closed doors they've accepted that he's leaving, but that doesn't mean it's feasible.

Geelong is just trying to get the Saints back to the table with Marshall.

They'd know 3 picks in the 20s was nowhere near it, so would Charlie.

Sorry mate but that just sounds like copium to me. The Saints have walked away from that deal, along with the Aleer deal, and the Cats still have Mitch Edwards (20) and Toby Conway (22) waiting in the wings.

It should be noted that Max Gawn is really the only premo ruck to win a premiership in the last 10 years or so, the Cats don't necessarily need Romar to win one. Considering the speed of their pivot, they don't seem all that fussed.

Their 3 firsts wouldn't be enough, agreed, but that doesn't mean it's their final offer.
For all the talk of what Sydney might offer, it should be noted that's all been in the press and on the internet, Geelong are the only ones to have made an actual offer.

Being a backup option for Curnow only has so much appeal. Unless Curnow comes out and specifically states that he'd still be interested in coming to Sydney, you can likely count us out.

Why are we chasing Cheap Charlie (Joke Joyce)? We should be chasing Jed Walter. He is the future. He is a Riley Tilthorpe type. They take a few years. He'd be cheaper than Charlie and he has far more upside as he WILL chase, defend and well as attack. He doesn't sulk and is the sort of player, the pack mark player, we need. McLean doesn't mark the pack mark often enough. We need someone who can split the packs.

Market rate is set now - and I think it's fair

No need for players, our 2025 and 2026 1sts carry more value that your 3. But I'm still hoping we don't pick up the phone till Monday at the earliest. Let Carlton stew.

p.s. is Curnow badly managed, not very professional, or just a natural troll.... or is it just being in the vicinity of Bailey Smith that does that to you
Very badly managed imo.

Like half a dozen of his teammates he was hoodwinked by a finals run into signing long term. now his manager is trying to extract an exit without having figured out to whom or having figured out if it is viable in a trade.

For the same reason that Curnow is going to be difficult to get out this year, he's contracted.

That being said, Walter is only contracted to 2026, and I absolutely agree with you that he'd be perfect for us, so even if we just start making contact with him as soon as the ink on the JUH contract dries for an OOC move next year, we absolutely should do that.

If it got him out of his contract this year though, I'd much more happily overpay for Walter.

Walter is also a competitive beast, he chases, he tackles, he crashes packs, he just lacks a bit of polish. As you'd expect from somebody his age.

GC know this. Plus Jed is a proud Palm Beach Currumbin surfie. Would take a massive deal to get him out.

He’s shown absolutely nothing at AFL level, dominated juniors being bigger than everyone and now doesn’t know what to do. Not convinced he makes it.

Chris Davies on Trade Radio suggesting that Elijah Hollands might just be bought out of his contract by the Blues, if that's the case, then I'd be really keen on us getting him up for SSP trials with a view to a rookie contract.

Just get him to stay at Dean Cox's place, not Caiden Cleary's. With Coxys beak there wouldn't be any leftover for Elijah anyway.
