I had myself a good spew when I saw that afl.com, whoever does the Match report, listed Egan as 3rd best out of 4 "best"

FMD

14 touches. 3 marks. . 189m gained. 1 GA.

57% DE. Generous I thought.

0 clearances

Didn't earn a free.

---
I thought Yassir was better. A much better game from her. McClelland played with heart.

Graham played OK too.

--
I thought wicksteed did lots of good things in the second half, didn't get reward from the umps. Should stay in

--
Our youngish recruits would have got a real wake up. They looked like U-18s against the hard nuts of Nth. Bacon and Ford, especially.

We have similar body types. But they aren't hard nuts like Nth's ones

we should just be grateful Sheering wasn't there. Imagine the damage she might have done to Ellie and Mon.

Think you are right with Scott. Natural footballer. Has all the smarts. Can get a bit lazy. Can get sucked in at times. Just needs a real big preseason. Hope she makes the most of her talent.

Bonnie Toogood was a bit at the crossroads like Scott. Got super fit and now can be a real handful.
She’s not fit enough , been pretty disappointed tbh , fails to get separation , too heavy and can’t use it to any advantage so get fitter

I like Grieser playing as second ruck and occasionally a kick behind. I think a few overhead marks will be good for her confidence and hopefully translates to getting shitty if she can’t keep taking em in the fwd 50.
Ellie looks a hardened player now and maybe Captain material but we’ve got too few B graders to force the oppo to respect them.
I’m trying not to be negative in every post but flipping hell trying to develop Bacon into a midfielder in her second year is another deal breaker for me with Ferg.
It set her up to fail and done nothing for her confidence all because his arse caved in thinking about how to setup without Sheerin so he tried to invent another Sheerin.
Bloody terrible coaching, Bacon is a talent but still needs to play to her strengths and build confidence.

Dellaway, Ellie and Graham have had good seasons. Miller is probably my favourite player and has some good moments in different positions. Grieves looks a player,
Mon is top shelf, Scott would be a handful if we had arial threats and Brennan still has enough smarts to get on the end of a few like we saw against Crows, if we had a 175-180 player who could mark above her shoulders and could score from 40 out.
We just don’t get enough return on effort going forward.

If we had the talent we could play Ellie forward, she’s taller than Gabby.

yes. but they chase hard and have a turn of foot over the first 15 or so. at least they wants to hurt people.

another off season and pre season and they could be weaponised.

Yes it’s “they”.

Hard one to get my old brain around but I’m trying.

One of the great mysteries to me. Sitting 1-8 for the season and Charli has played 3 games.

Charlie played round 3 and 4, got a bit of it on limited game time and then we don't see her until round 9. Perplexing to say the least. I thought she showed enough glimpses to keep her in the side and see if she was part of 2026 or not. Once we went 0-4 we should have started playing for 2026. Could have been the making of her. Just play her for the next 3 games and see what we have.

as you might imagine she seemed to have a fair bit of "i'll show the coaches", which can be a bssadas well as a good. mostly I thought she channeled it well.

And...only the 1 week outside of the 8 was after our opening loss to West Coast, when 9th.

9 - 8 - 4 - 4 - 5 - 4 - 5 - 5 - 6 - 7

2025

11 - 14 - 15 - 17 - 18 - 18 - 18 - 17 - 17

But has the worm turned now 🤣 Ferg thinks we are not far off our best....................................

We could live with the feedback that she had to build her tank last year (and much of the previous season, technically). You could see he run out of tickets, but that comes with games playing her role, and without a VFL side, they make it that much harder. This season ought to have been all about getting that into here. I'm really disappointed she hasn't played 9 games, it would have really set her up. She has skill, holds and carries the ball better than most on our list, the kick is neat and plays the angles well in stoppages generally.

Instead she has played just Rnds 3,4 and 9. :(

So true, although robbing peter to pay paul this last month fergs changed her role and in 3 games she has spent > 50% field position forward of centre & inside 50, resulting in 6 goals. A glimpse of the potential there in this role, similar to Jas Garner's role. The problem is that Ellie and Mon are our meters gained queens, so doubtful will be permanent until we add more talent to our midfield.

OK, I must have missed all those emerging midfielders we have. 🤪

Any news on our VFL team licence/merger? Scrimmages are only about simulating match fitness and will never replace a VFLW team environment where players work with team tactics and team mates etc.
I'll probably be the last to hear that one. I cherish the likes of you guys for being my source........

Not a word. I suspect all the license discussion will be behind closed doors for a while given the sensitivity regarding Darebin's future. Preston getting turfed out of VFL doesn't help Darebin at all.

Seems more and more likely Richmond will pounce as a stand alone, but we are starting to see a trickling of VFLW re-signings now and if not already, we would want to be putting feelers out to players soon.

We need a CHF, FF & more mids over the next couple of seasons, trade out players that aren't going to be there in the next 7-10 seasons. I think Mon deserves to have the opportunities to be contesting finals in the future, So time to build for the future, as what we have at the moment is way off where we need to be.

7-10 seasons? Whoa.

I reckon 80% of the players in AFLW don't have 7-10 seasons in them. Maybe more.

As for us I reckon our only 7-10 might be Mon, Ellie, Sierra and Issy Bacon. That's if they last the duration.

That's at least 26 players we have to trade out in the next couple of seasons. Can't be done.

Interesting. Will remain to be seen whether increasing the no of games each year impacts longevity or does the complete opposite in the short term. The girls are already 10 times more likely to have an ACL injury that the blokes.

I'd be inclined to add Paige Scott to that list, is still so young, and has those traits of so many players like her in AFLW. Wickstead is only 22, but she may not get enough opportunity. Hargreaves is an outside chance if she gets fit and well

I think a lot will depend on the pressure from what will come into our list over the next couple of list changes. I wouldn't be surprised if the next player agreement leads to larger list sizes with longer seasons and increased injuries, which should help us.

On a list of players with ? seasons left, as the 2nd oldest list behind North, forget 7 years I think 3-4 years (2028/29) will see our biggest drop off.

e.g Current Richmond players reaching > 10 years playing in 2028, are Brennan, Hicks, Hosking, Brazzale and Shevlin. (5)

Then Miller, Egan, Dempsey, Lynch, and Seymour are 10 years Richmond players 8 years at AFLW + 2 years having played in our inaugural VFLW team in 2018. (5)

Also Tessa Lavey will be 35 in 2028. So in 3 - 4 years time how many of these 11 players will still be playing, or playing but past their best years.
