Yeah these permanent fixtures really have hijacked the fixture. You obviously can’t do that now. They lock in games to certain rounds all the time.
For example it would never be possible to have Melbourne v Collingwood twice, Richmond vs Carlton would always be twice as would pies vs dons and cats v hawks etc etc.
They do the fixture the way they do for flexibility.

Yuck if that's the case, would rather play them at the G.Sounds like the last match of Gather Round 2026 is the Sunday game Western Bulldogs vs Collingwood Magpies!
In the early days they had so many players from WA that they probably felt compelled to let the fellas come home and play in front of their family and friendssuns overall

6 home games v west coast, compared with 13 away
10 home v collingwood, 6 away (and looks like only one year had a double up)
That's a pretty bad outlier. I think this is an accurate list of the two longest breaks each club currently has between double ups. So Adelaide last played the Dogs twice in 2013 and Freo in 2016, every other club they've placed twice in a season since then. Melbourne/Essendon and GWS/Collingwood are the two notable standouts.iPhone One wasn't even invented when Melbourne last played Essendon twice in the one year.
I’ve heard a conflicting rumour of the Hawks and Bulldogs in Gather RoundSounds like the last match of Gather Round 2026 is the Sunday game Western Bulldogs vs Collingwood Magpies!
Sydney Carlton Thursday night
Hey AFL, gagf.
You'd imagine that either Lions Dogs or Subs Cats will be Friday night. Couldn't imagine 3 Saturday games in QKD
That's what I'm thinking re the fixture. Not a massive fan of OR, and having a game in Melbourne defeats the purpose, but all those games have potential.
I’d say the Brisbane game will be Friday night, the GC game Saturday twilight and the GWS game Saturday night.
I do. I think its great for the clubs in non-traditional markets but I'm in the minority I admitDon’t think I know a single AFL fan who thinks having Opening Round and giving a bunch of teams an extra bye is a good idea.
That’s an amazing list and there shouldn’t be 15 years for example since Collingwood and St. Kilda have played each other twice in a season. Like what tha? Then Essendon and Melbourne since 2005? lolThat's a pretty bad outlier. I think this is an accurate list of the two longest breaks each club currently has between double ups. We make more money playing 1 home game at the MCG then we will from most our Marvel games combined. It's a much better option then selling games which we've tried and failed to have any success from.Another MCG game gifted to Collingwood... St Kilda should be trying to make Marvel a fortress

The Pies played a home game against the Saints this year at Marvel.Another MCG game gifted to Collingwood... St Kilda should be trying to make Marvel a fortress

Hard to get excited for any of these games. Just let everyone play ffs
