Looking at Lore's table, I think we would have been short on points if we had matched Carmichael. Our next 3 picks would have given us 586 points which was short of 637 to match.

Maybe we were worried the Bulldogs would bid on King next and we would have no points at that stage. And we have already traded out a lot of future picks.

Im surprised the dogs didn't bid on King to then bid on Carmichael to make it more of a sure thing.

Goes to show I don't think clubs are bidding on players for shits and gigs.

And this talk about gws making a faux bid on Kyle is rubbish because every chance we would have passed on a bid that high if he wasn't truly rated that high. Clearly shows he is highly rated, which again is not a surprise, just look at the kids highlight reel he is going to be an absolute jet.

Hawthorn were heavily linked to Taylor. They miss Taylor if they stood still

Hawthorn already had the pick and could have taken Taylor if they wanted him. Instead, they went back 2 spots allowing two other teams the option of taking Taylor.
Hawthorn obviously had no interest in him.

They may have been happy with both, but GWS wanted Taylor massively, you do the trade, they didn't give up much at all to do it. GWS wanted the number 1 HBF on their board and didn't want to run the gauntlet that he was off the table having to take a Lindsay or someone else.

If they wanted Taylor "massively" they would have taken him straight out at pick 14, rather than first bidding on Kyle. There was no guarantee the Swans would match at that point. So, sure, they wanted Taylor but not "massively".

If they wanted Taylor "massively" they would have taken him straight out at pick 14, rather than first bidding on Kyle. There was no guarantee the Swans would match at that point. So, sure, they wanted Taylor but not "massively".

They may have been happy with both Kyle AND Taylor with the second one their plan A backup plan they didn't want to go to plan B, C, D. All reports were they weren't fans of Lindsay, and Dovaston was off the board. So lets assume they stay put they bid on Kyle and miss, do tell us who they are taking, Taylor would be gone too. They traded a middling pick next year for the right to trade up it's smart business. It's hardly a big deal at 14 or 16, it's still not going to make the decision to not match Carmichael different. We have obviously decided that Kyle and King at 1 and 2 on our board, and Carmichael was a "if we have the points'.

So we don't even know if McNamara is even nominated, let alone in consideration for a Cat B spot.

I wouldn't really understand how Kyle gets to be a first rounder and McNamara might not even be a Cat B rookie, but hopefully by tomorrow he is.

I think giving him a couple of VFL games suggests he is in consideration, though I take your point that we've no actual confirmation of that via an AFL list.

The counter to that is that King was touted as a top ten pick coming into the season, and his stocks have gradually fallen. We'll probably land up with both but taken at very different spots than would have been predicted towards the start of the season.

Considering over 1,000 players nominated for the draft, it's fair to assume he has.

Depends if we see Kyle as a mid, otherwise we've matched a first round bid on a half back and passed on a more proven one.

So if we do, we could look at a key forward as first priority. Though if we do pick up Chamberlain (wing/forward) and McNamara (med def/fwd), then a key forward and either another mid (if not sold on Kyle) or a legit medium defender (given McNamara's best was up forward), might be the go. Would be a decent mix.
