This first team selection will tell us a bit about the footy department. I’m preparing to lose my shit when Caleb and CCJ are selected and Trembath and Blamires are not.

Losing your shit will be a healthy result for you this week

My attempt to pick the team for next week.

Comben, Logue Blamires
McKercher Pink, Daniel
Jy LDU Stephens
Konstanty Darling Zurhaar
Dova, Larks, PC
X, Harry, FOS

IC Parker, Powell, Trembath, RHJ, and then I'm really not sure which way they will go between Duurs/Banch/Urq's/CCJ or even Corr for the 5th spot. That's probably my order preference for that 5th bench spot for different reasons.

Throw a blanket across FOS/Parker/Powell for the starting third mid.

Didn't pick from anyone who didn't play last week or yesterday or listed as anything more than test on the injury list.

Lmac and Spargo are underdone, and others not really in the frame at this stage I think.

I'd really like Hard's in that backline for better defence, McKerch & Daniel worry me. If Hardeman was available I think RHJ moves down the list into consideration for the 5th bench spot. Konstanty I think gets the nod over Banch (just) at this stage. The rest pick themselves and is up to the remaining players to force their way in on VFL performance.
It will either be CCJ or Trembath, maybe neither, but ill go with trembath as fav of 3 options (wont be both unless injury to Darling/Larkey)

I really like Kostanty

Comben - Pink - Logue
Blamires - Mckercher - Daniels

Simpkin - LDU - D.Stephens
Xerri - Sheez - FOS

Powell - Dov - Curtis
Trembath- Larkey- Zurhaar

B: RHJ, Parker, Z.Duursma, Kostanty, Darling

Is the side, which is pretty much what u said

L.Mcdonald*
Wardlaw*
Harderman*

* Not ready for enough game time

Was impressed by RHJ across half back, i hope they dont change that just because of Mckercher return or when LMac or Harderman are fit

Playing RHJ, Kerch and Daniel in one backline is asking for trouble. Would like to see how the first two go without Daniel, but I can’t see it happening in the first few weeks.

we have tried to drill the super fast ball movement. We did that a couple of seasons ago. Issue was then we couldn’t do that and defend. Hopefully with pre seasons and increased fitness capacity we can run both ways better and go back to that style a little more. That seems to be the current style now

With our skill level we could go the opposite and slow the game right down. Play on our terms.
We keep possession of the ball and the opposition gets stressed.

The best teams defend with ball in hand. Pies and lions are great at taking time out of the game when they can. Its minutes they don't have to run at the end. We seemed to try and play both ways in our pre season game against the pies

There’s a 0% chance it eventuates.

But it’s the best we’ve got and it’s the most AFL like we could put out there.

Sleepy Al doesn’t roll that way though.
Now, we’re blaming AI for our problems. 🤣

I’ve bolded who I have little issue with being in the side.

Pink has an * as whilst he is required ATM, he needs to be quickly replaced.
I wouldn't be surprised if Corr plays instead of Pink this week

We have good players on each line for the first time in years, I think. I’m more comfortable going into R1 than since 2020.
I was confident going into R1 against Footscray seconds last year

First thing we have to do is keep it out of Logue, Comben, Powell, McDonald and Simpkins hands.. ;)

Then we might be able to run it faster..:D

Problem is due to so many **** ups. I was looking at the side I want, or more importantly the players I don't want.

1.Darling
2.Lil Kont
3.Pink
4.Stephens
5.Parker
6.Daniel nee Dinkers
7.Scott
8.CCJ
9. Hansen Jnr
10.Powell
11 Stevens
12 Harvey
13 Fisher

Now at a guess how many of those do you think are playing. At most I'd accept 4. Reckon more likely to be 8 .

I honestly think the club is prepared for another 2 years down the bottom.

The investment in Dawson , Goad, Whitlock and now Thredgold will take years to pay dividends.

All probably around the same pick as Hardeman or even earlier. In the interim we're holding the side together with scraps from other clubs. Blamiers and Trembath are the Gods throwing us a bone.

But I expect us to beat Port lol
Geez, talk about a Debbie downer.

Darling could start on the bench. He's getting older. Can fill in for ruck
Cant jump, too slow and cumbersome?

Oppo will feed on centre clearance and set records for clearance goals.

Brainiac move.

The move is to play trembath over Darling. And then the question needs to be asked, can Trembath or Souve ruck as the fill in or does the team need CCJ? Now im not massive on CCJ and would rather see someone else but there isnt anyone.

Pink - Logue - Blamires
Hardeman - Comben - Hansen

McKercher - FOS - Simpkin

Dovaston - Larkey - Sheezel
Curtis - Trembath - Zurhaar

Xerri - LDU - McKercher

Powell - Darling - Daniel - Stephens - Parker

The only way we win is if we run the pants off them.
