The 2017 game plan could certainly still hold up and get us easy wins, but we haven't even tried to play that way for about 10 or 11 games now
That’s not right , there’s one team that’s derailed our game style , who else has managed to do it ?

Funny how the wheel turns.
Reckon Towner might get another go and perhaps in a different role who knows due entirely once again a pressing need for something he does better than others.
Our lack of tackling and physicality has been alarming.

Been saying for 3 years get him in the middle. Get Ross in there too. Our midfield was too small. Cotch was tagged and Dusty had too much of a load. Nank tired out and needs back up. Balta, Moore, Garth, Baker deserve a game too. Get them all in

Fellas lets take stock,

We've been beaten at the G' twice by the Pies, no one else. We we're down last night and if we took our chances in the third could well of been in front.

We have a tough month ahead but I have confidence in the team to rebound and I think they've earnt your respect over the last 2 seasons to give them that chance.

Selection did raise my eyebrows but we cannot throw the toys out of the pram after round 2 with a (1-1) record.

The team to get the job done this week;

Broad Astbury Short
Vlaustin Garthwaite McIntosh
Edwards Cotchin Lambert
Castagna Townsend Rioli
Bolton Lynch Martin
Nank Prestia Graham
Higgins, Ellis, Ross, Balta

Out: Markov Riewoldt Grimes Butler Weller
In: Townsend Garthwaite Bolton Ross Balta

*Houli for Ellis if fit

Townsend defensive on Sam Taylor
Garth replaces Grimes
Houli replace Markov
Bolton replaces Butler (been too lazy and offering nothing)

Go Tiges!!!!

It feels like it’s all doom and gloom and short term it probably will be, but the club will respond, we are too good not to. Whether that means we win next week, we can only hope but I know we’ll crack in

I would like to see Jack Graham return to his role as a damaging negative midfielder like we saw in 2017.
Cannot allow players like Treloar, even Beams, 35 possessions.
Last time we allowed Sidebottom 40 disposals.
Bring in Ross through the centre too.
Graham tried but couldn't run with them.

That I am in the minority about the fruitlessness of blaming umpires only further validates the opinion as far as I am concerned.
I get that it doesn't get you anywhere to blame the umps, it doesn't mean it isn't valid either. Plus, blaming players, coaches clubs etc on fan websites is the epitome of fruitlessness anyway. As if the clubs would listen to us or that we are qualified enough to comment anyway.

Would agree in a way. One thing we have is Balme who we haven’t in the past. Gives me a bit more confidence in us turning things around

We were s@$t

Think realistically
These changes may happen

Ins Moore/Balta garthwaite Ross Baker
Outs Riewoldt grimes Weller Markov

Haven’t seen Prestia Rioli butler castagna astbury Lambert that bad ever.

Blokes in bold are meant to be a graders to most on here yet they were horrid.

Pies were all over us. Were the better side all night. Unfortunately they have a side of talent where as we are full of battlers. Once dusty is tagged it’s very evident our midfield is bang average.

I feel with this 22 Though

Short Garth broad
Vlastuin astbury b Ellis
Lambert Martin mcintosh
Rioli Moore/Balta Higgins
Butler lynch castagna
Nank cotch Prestia
Edwards graham Ross Baker

We can beat the Giants. Ross in as a big body ball hunter will help cotch out drastically! Martin will be tagged nearly every game from here. Baker brings More then Weller, George can play caddy’s role, Garth natural in to play on Cameron, Markov won’t play again. Would rather Moore then Balta as he plays the same way as jack.

Looking forward to the challenge moving forward. Will learn a lot about how good Hardwick is as a coach compared to other teams who have dealt with injuries and succeeded. (Hawthorn, West Coast and Collingwood) last year. Not all doom and gloom will finally get a chance to see a few more players. Been the same 25 players for 2 years. Plenty of opportunities
Astbury wasn't bad, not sure where you got that from.

I think our slow start could be in part due to Dimma's "we don't want to peak too early" attitude through the preseason, and its rubbing off on the players, hence why they don't have their usual killer instinct

Out: Reiwoldt, Grimes, Markov (Ellis)
In: Garthwaite, Balta, Moore. (Houli)

Collingwood only has 1 real tall forward, so we could replace Rance with a small, but that was never going to last.

Garthwaite & Balta go back (Balta can provide the chop out in the ruck from there, while back, he and Astbury can rotate on the GWS talls, with Astbury taking the one nearer to goal). See how they look (and matchups going forward) before deciding which one to drop when Grimes returns.

I'd be tempted to go small up forward, but Moore's form in the 2s means he deserves a shot, and frankly, if he doesn't get a go now, his confidence would probably be shot as he'll know he'll never get a chance. Unless he stinks it up, he should know he gets the 4(?) weeks until Jack returns.

Couple of other players would get told they need to step up (hell, just have a team meeting to tell them all at once), but 3 or 4 changes is more than enough for one week.

Ellis should never go in the back half. Bad things happen when hes back there. I fear he is not a very versatile player, and as soon as hes not played to run in wide open spaces he goes to pieces.

I used to think he just needed to be played the right way, but now I realise if he can't adapt, he needs to go.
Correct

Don’t think it’s all doom and gloom but some things will need to change and the period of domination we were once enjoying is now well gone.
I can actually see the opposite of last season taking place to some extent with us likely falling off the pace and into the middle of the ladder somewhere for the most part but finishing the year off in better form than we start so who knows?
By seasons end the team could look a lot different, Lynch will have had a full season behind him hopefully and we might have some really good momentum.
Key is to just hang in there through what looks like a pretty bumpy ride coming up.

Our lack of tackling and physicality has been alarming.

At least Townsend can lead and provide another marking target for the mids to kick to. At least he has composure and is a bit of a deadeye

I think our list on the field is a bit out of whack. I would keep Rioli up forward half mostly because I do not think he is as effective in the midfield especially with the other smalls we have. Castagna is still handy because he is he can still aerially be competitive as well as the tackling and covers the ground quickly as well as able to go back.

I think we need a bit more aerial competitiveness. Even guys like Prestia where getting beat from height in certain circumstances so having a Caddy and Townsend around to not just compete aerially but take a mark and adjust play from it to suit ourselves is important to gain momentum and compete

I wrote before the season began the key priority was to prepare for the eventual successor to Alex Rance.
Of course, the injury has brought this process forward.
Some people mentioned Noah Balta but I would think his forte is the forward line.
Bring in either a developmental player or recruit a readymade defender in the next year.

The form of our smalls is a major concern and for the most part the form of our premiership smalls has been shithouse since the premiership.
Butler, graham , prestia, ellis, castagna, rioli , houli have all had the cue in the rack since 17. Whilst Higgins , valustin, Lambert and Short have started the year well below that of 2018.
That is a shit load of little blokes who aren't near form and when you add Markov and Mcintosh who although taller don't play inside along with Weller it's alot of inside grunt being carried by too few . RCD didnt get alot of it in jlt 1 but what he did was clean and inside , I'd have persisted with him and hope we revisit sooner rather than later as we are getting slaughtered inside.
