Review Round 3, 2019 vs Brisbane

Choked again when the game was on the line and we had to kick straight when it counted and cut out basic ball handling errors.

0.1 to 4.1 after 12 minutes gives you a big chance to lose when 40-45% of game are 0-23 pt result games.

We have got into a bad habit of starting like the tortoise away from home expecting to flick the switch to the hare in the 2nd quarter or 2nd half.

But that only works if you kick 7.2 not 2.7 in the hare quarter.

It's round 3, our young talent is the most exciting in over a decade at least, and we've banked 8 points.

We threw away a game we should have won playing against a top 8 team away. It happens. Wipe the shit out of our asses and let's move on.

Wines shouldn't have played (he was worse than Frodo). Structurally we should have gone in with Marshall/Frampton up forward. We never should have gone co captains. Fair enough, I won't disagree with any of this.

But it's ****ing April. We look ok for the season and we look great for the future. I'm happy.

Smash the ****ing tiges next week.

Absolute rubbish, wasn't it?

And it wasn't like they were all hard shots at goal.

Westhoff, Ebert, Gray. There's 18 points in a 17 point loss.

Makes you wonder, really.

The game is football, but its goals that count.

Bad luck guys. You were playing better footy for most of the night.
I really just want to say your young kids look fantastic. Duursma and Butters in earlier rounds but Rozee yesterday ... wow.
He just carved us up.
Almost unheard of for 3 kids in the same side playing like this in their first year.

I remember in 2014 when we pushed Sydney at the SCG and Ken pretty much said it was a shit effort because we lost when questioned about it.

Now he's happy with this effort against a much worse side. Standards = dropped.

Perhaps he's simply showing his true colours now that he's got the comfy contracts

Thanks good luck this season, if we can't do it I would certainly much rather see the lions win the flag than some of the other flog teams that are in contention

Hoff also kicked an OOF from 45 out with a pathetic kick.

You said Hipwood was backed in and given games Marshall not. When your at the bottom of the ladder you have more freedom to do that.

Ah I see. I was using the context of R1 & R2 this year. Marshall should have been backed in for R3.

All those 30/0 and 30/15 misses were ****ing disgusting.

Reflecting on the game this morning, I actually thought that we were the better team on the day. We should have won, in fact we almost should have had the game stitched up by half time with how dominant we were from about halfway through the second quarter. Finishing around goals has always been a problem of ours, and once again was the reason we lost. And in regards to people saying that we should have put our foot down and kicked more goals once we got 10 points up, perhaps that was not possible due to players being out on their feet having the rotation down?

Sums it up nicely like Bob did.

For one thing that's certain
You will surely be a-hurtin'
If you throw it all away

He was the same after the preliminary final loss that year. I loved the fact that he hated losing more than I did as a supporter. It's what made things seem different under him compared to the last few years of Choco and Primus.

Losing Rockliff was a major factor in the context of the game, because it meant that we didn't have another player the Lions had to worry about to get the centre clearance.

It's one of those losses where a total combination of poor judgement and poor luck broke the camel's back. I don't blame solely the poor finishing on goal for the loss. As I've said elsewhere, 90 points should be enough to win a game of football.

If Watts plays instead of Howard - we win.
If Lienert plays instead of Howard - we win.
If Dixon plays - we win.
If Wines isn't coming back from a shoulder for his first game of the season - we win.
If Rockliff doesn't get concussed - we win.
If Hartlett plays instead of Bonner - we win.
If Amon plays instead of S.Gray - we win.
If we kick pretty easy goals in the second quarter - we win.

We let that game slip away because certain players couldn't get the job done when it counted.

Our seasoned players, our statesmen, our supposed stars in Robbie and Westy are the ones who missed unmissable goals . You can blame Ken for lots of things but those misses are totally on those senior players. Robbie looked to be doing too much lairising too.

Players will make mistakes and errors through the course of a match though, that’s a known known.

If Port had a mid-week cuptie against the Darwin Buffaloes we could kick 10.28 and scrape the win, but naming Amanda Vanstone at CHF would still be the fundamentally wrong thing to have done.

I believe George has commented since about how one person dominates the board meetings, not sure if he ever did anything about it when he had the chance though.

The problem is one person can change a board. They will be outed and punted pretty quick. In reality if you know you’re in a dysfunctional board, best to get out rather than damage ones brand.

This really is quite funny reading. We weren't that bad. We pushed a team in Brisbane who are a really good team. Ollie was always going to have to ease his way back in, Westhoff has so many credits in the bank so an off game is no biggy. Chill people. Our team is mostly young and we waster a lot of chances. If we got those goals then we'd be celebrating a win right now.

But I do agree that Sam Gray has to go. Bonner should be replaced with Mayes, and Ebert and motlop need a rocket. actually motlop has been average all year. He jsut doesn't do enough and seems disinterested / no engaged a lot of the time.

I'm positive for the future. I really am. Our team is full of young seriously good players

Rozee
Butters
SPP
Etc etc

We have old stars that will fade more and more, and I think we can cover them. Sure it stinks to lose, but I'm really not that upset about this

Chin up peeps

I can see the positives but it's not losing that gripes me so much, it's the way we lose and losing when we should win.
