Imagine if we'd had Greenwood and Gibbs last week?

We'd be sitting 3-2, nestled in the 8 and feeling like we had some momentum

Yeah Greenwood was great, his clearance work was superb and he has some x-factor. We have certainly missed him. For different reasons we will be a better side when Brown comes back as well.

Well, I certainly wasn't expecting that after the form of both teams. GC had an off night, as expected from a young side and we took control after quarter time (thankfully because that first quarter was one of the worst quarters of football I've ever watched).

The Good:
Eddie turned back the clock
Thor - should've played last week... what a difference he makes
Smith - some poor kicks early but was excellent after quarter time
Keath - easily our best performing defender right now
Murphy - Good thing he wasn't dropped, pure guts in that game
Mackay - best game since the '09 semi

The Bad:
Lynch - still off the boil
Knight - Mr. Anonymous
Milera's injury

The Ugly:
1st quarter - let us never speak of it again

People can dismiss it as being "just the Suns" but with how both teams have been travelling, anyone would've taken a 1 point win let alone a 73 point won. Not a perfect performance but a pass mark, move on to the Saints who will be a huge test for us.

Doubt Gary ablett in his prime could have pulled us out of that debacle.
We lost by 12 points

Nathan Ablett would have been enough

Our slow and dour ball movement was the issue more than anything last week. Good to see that we took the game on a bit more tonight. If we did THAT last week, we may have won.

By nothing short then an act of a divine that we lost by 12. It really doesn't do any justice to how badly we were belted around the game.

Plenty of good and plenty of ugly still, not too much bad. It was either really good or the complete opposite.

It's clear to me that we WANT to play the way we did in the last 3 quarters, so why did it take a quarter (5 if we include last week) to do so ??

The losses against Hawthorn and Geelong were skill based rather than gameplan. We HAVE to go quick but you've gotta hit targets. Poor opposition tonight but it's exactly what we did. Could have been better too, if Lynch and Bryce hit players in Crows jumpers by foot. They both worked hard and tried to move it, but again the skill was woeful.

The issue is the height in defence, and the legspeed. One if not both of Kelly and Harto need to go. If we can slot a Sholl back there it opens up the field of play. Neither of the former are great by foot either, which Sholl is. Hell even throw Wilson back there, he spent a great deal of his career back there and is a straight line runner.

It's good to win so well and have things to work on, and if we go by today then at least Don LOOKS like he wants to improve things.

You only have to beat the other team

There's no playing well award

We gifted it to the Kangaroos with selection. Sure, we probably would have still played utterly shithouse with them but at least we'd have the 4 points.

A game plan change would have done. We move the ball like we did for most of today and we have no problem with a number of our opposition.

Greenwood only had 3 clearances, 1 centre clearance and 2 stoppage clearances.

CEY was a bigger difference around the clearances today IMO, not as sexy with some but best game he's played at AFL level.

All up we had only 8 centre clearances to GCS 's 16 centre clearances.

Stoppage clearances we won 31 to 23

I think it's also quite telling Pyke coached a significant portion of the game from the bench after QT.

We clearly did not want to be playing the slow, sidewards, ugly football of the past few weeks and Pyke on the bench seemed to stop it. That's a good sign

Is that a sign he has **** all confidence in the other coaches in the box???

Wasn't selection IMO. As bad as Jenkins was we moved the ball about as effectively as an over 80s reserves side.

Even with 5 minutes to go we insisted on going backwards.

I agree our selection was a total **** up, but that is not a game you have any real room to argue if we did x, we win. It's much more likely that luck corrects and we lose by 40-50.

Big leap to suggest Gibbs was the missing link last week? Greenwood def would have helped though.

We tried to move the ball like we did all offseason. Methodical, slow, patient. That may have the game we needed to say that idea we worked on was nothing short of an absolute dud.

Selection played a role because we went slower which made us much more vulnerable to pressure, but wasn't the be all and end all to that game.

Maybe getting away from Campo and into reality helped.

For someone who looks really slow CEY manages to break away from traffic pretty well... and he looks damn hard to lay a tackle on..

Just makes the odd poor decision here and there..

I thought he was pretty handy tonight..
