Interview with Pyke, post-game:
Reporter: ... and Lachie Murphy, he set the tone for attack and pressure ..
Pyke: Yeah.
Reporter: I thought that was as well as he's played for you guys ...
Pyke: Yeah ... he was competing air and ground to a really high level ... and those things become contagious ...

So Pea Nut , you're right and Pyke's wrong, yeah?

Nah.
You’ve got more than one person saying Murphy did a good job last night.
:thumbsu:
The one person who matters most is Pyke, above.

I actually yelled out

"He was a free agent, MORON!!!!"

My comment didn't go down well with the blue rinse brigade as I got a few dirty looks, but Chapman looked like a fool saying that.

I assumed that Brodie's was a token gesture because they did something for Betts and wanted to avoid receiving criticism for not acknowledging Brodie Smith after the game.
You actually did that? That’s just embarrassing. Club is trying to recognise a champion and you decided the focus should be on you. Well done.

Doubt Eddie will remember or care about Chapman's faux pas when reflecting on the day and the game. The whole point was to honour and acknowledge Eddie, I think that was achieved.

At the end of the game he seemed to be excited most by the idea that his BIL is getting a tattoo of Eddie's face on his arse cheek

Done!

Let's see where his career goes. If he becomes a quality AFL small forward then fair enough, but he has huge steps to take right now.
Who’s talking about his career? We are assessing his game yesterday. It was outstanding. That is all. Whether he can replicate that week after week remains to be seen.

I’ve done that for exact same attempt once in a game, we were a fair way up. Absolutely flushed it but missed by about a metre to the long side. Got dragged and told in no uncertain terms that the correct option was to centre the ball. Not sure about that these days. Probably is, but you wouldn’t want to be handing it straight to the opposition, they’d probably be having a shot themselves.

Bad coach I reckon

It was a regulation set shot that even SANFL players would be expected to kick. Not hard to understand. Watch other games of footy and what good small forwards and defensive forwards do.

It was a regulation set shot that every one of our players has been missing all season, and not becoming of a ‘deer in headlights’ player as you described. I watch plenty of football, I’d suggest you take your ‘I don’t like Murphy’ goggles off and try and watch it again. I’m not sold on him as a long term small forward, I’ll need to see him perform to that level a lot more consistently to think that, but to suggest his game last night was anything less than great is just stupid.

I've also got more than one person agreeing with me. I have a bit more of an idea now on whose opinion to take seriously.
You've got 3, good for you.

I'll take the vast majority over 3 of you any day.

No one talking about his career, we were talking about his game yesterday which was very good by most people's summations.

I have reservations about his long term future also but not his game yesterday.

My negative from the game is going to be a very unpopular one.

While it was great to get the win, the Suns were abysmal and the win was only wallpaper over the cracks.

The flow on from the game will be that the 2 to 3 players who arguably shouldn't be in our best 22 had a performance yesterday that will most probably justify their continued selection for the next 4-5 weeks.

Who are the three players? You can only beat the opposition in front of you that week and given the abysmal performance against north this was a great result. Hopefully it gives the team some confidence and turn the season around. Time will tell.

His game yesterday was more of the same from the past few weeks for the bulk of it, but this time he also managed 3 goals. And for the past few weeks there has been an overwhelming call to drop him. So which is it ??? He is a trier and brings effort and chases and tackles. Break down his game and look at stuff in isolation for some clarity which is what I did. A team win seems to influence way too many people round here. There certainly seems to be an innundation of those who only show up when we win and go missing when we lose.

There are no "I don't like Lachie Murphy" goggles, and most certainly wasn't great. He played his role and brings effort.

Need some more pace in the team and 2 way runners. 3 who are worst at this. Out.

Sloane
often gets overlooked for his efforts
His body was totally bashed in that game. How does he do it.
Thought he should have been paid a few more frees for some high hits

ROB
Always valued him. So glad he is getting a run of games

Keith
He just keeps improving

Smith
Absolutely back to his best

Eddie
Couldn’t write the script any better 6 goals in a 300th Game

The Berg
I want to see him get a run of games
I won’t mention Jenkins I bashed him for a week solid

I don’t think yesterday’s game solves anything for anyone.

The Washington Generals showed up, we had a deservedly wonderful show for Eddie and everyone went home happy.

It will be the next 2 weeks where players, coaches and game plans will be laid bare under the spotlight of speed, aggression and enthusiasm.

Let’s assess all and sundry after the next 2 games

Exactly.

People here were actually concerned we were going to lose. We were NEVER losing that game. Even in the first quarter we were less bad than they were.

If we get over St Kilda I will believe again, but yesterday HAS to be the start of something rather than a blip.

It depends what people want from their small forwards. If they want a trier who puts effort to chase and tackle and harass their opponents then that's fine. Personally I want them to hit the scoreboard, and that's what Murphy did last night.

If he can jag his 2 or 3 a game then he deserves his place because you know he brings the other stuff. If those goals don't come, we have players who can deliver them in the 2s.

What about his blocking and body work. Getting his hands in the way of a opponents hand balls. Making it dirty in there. Clearance work is more than the pure clearance stat.

We missed that in the first four weeks.

I never said Greenwood didn't play well, but IMO CEY was the better player of the two on the day especially around the stoppages/clearances.

As I said, that doesn't suddenly transform his game from par for the course and playing his role to some of the hyperbole that has been used to describe his performance. Especially when the goals that he kicked weren't created from nothing or out of the box solo efforts. And when people here were calling for him to be dropped, what were they basing it on ?? The fact that he kicked 0 goals ?? Or the 3 tackles recorded on the stats sheet instead of 5 ??

And look at you... grumpy either way. Just give it up, you are making yourself look silly.

A bit over the top Jenny. I’m sure relapse thought this is my moment, I’m going to make this all about me.

Or perhaps he was embarrassed that our dufus of a Chairman got something so basic wrong and tried to correct him.
